A little piece of heaven on a plate. Came here for Sunday brunch. The food is yummy. I had a VLT which was super good. There was a lot I really wanted to try on the menu so I hope to go back again. Worth going to Maidstone for.

Fortify is one of my favorite cafes anywhere. The menu is creative, the food is fresh and prepared with care and the service is friendly and helpful. I visited this café on a business trip.

Tiny, and on the main drag between the river and the shops proper, it’s easy to miss this little gem amidst the brash chain pubs offering their curries and chips for under a fiver. Ignore them. Come here. Trust me. Ok, it may look a little like the 70s threw up on it, but if you don’t get a cosy childhood nostalgia kick from the décor, you’ll get all the cosy you need from the exquisite soul food on offer. Fat bean burgers, fat frittatas loaded with delicious fillings, proper golden-crusted man-pies bursting with filling, stews — soups — oh my goodness. The flavour! Your mouth could die happy after one of their meals. And the drinks — simple juices, local Kentish alcoholic beverages and apple juices, childhood nostalgia drinks like dandelion and burdock, and a massive amound of teas and coffees for hippies and caffeine heads alike. Fabulous coffee syrups and enough froth on a cappuccino or latte to justify a spoon to lick from after. They know how to do foam. Staff are friendly and not in your face. The food and drink here is just so satisfying. The vibe is kickbackable. It’s all just so… yummy. It’s also vegetarian. But don’t let that put you off. I took a committed carnivore there, and he was converted. You can’t beat the heartiness of the meals or the robustness of the flavours. I’m not on the payroll. I don’t know them. But I wish I had their recipe books and passion in my own kitchen.
