This is the VW main dealer in East Berkshire.
If ever you need to use this garage check your bill and make sure before they service/​repair your car you get them to agree that the price they quoted you over the phone is the price they charge you when you collect the car!
I rang to book my sons Polo in for a service and the lady on the end of the phone was very helpful and gave me the cost of the full service including VAT and what the service would involve. She said that she also had a polo.
I booked the car in there and then and the following week I dropped my son off signed the paperwork and off we went. (My only mistake was because we had got delayed in traffic and made ourselves late I didn’t check the small print.)
In the evening when we collected the car and went to settle the account, I checked the balance which was £50 higher than we had been quoted. (There was an additional £50 for adjusting the handbrake which I think is excessive but my son had agreed to this so fair enough) I said to them that this (service) was £50 higher than we had been quoted over the phone but they insisted that this was correct. My son earns £13K a year and this means a lot of difference to him. I then spoke to the service manager and gave him the name of the person we had spoken to, time, date. He went away to check. He then came back and said that their prices had gone up on Monday. Correct me if I’m wrong here but if you accept a price, agree and book it, is that not a contract?
They wouldn’t budge and a letter to their Directors has been ignored. Consumer Direct which seems to have replaced Trading Standards don’t even bother calling you back.
So my first experience of booking a car into a garage privately in 10 years and paying for it?
Nothing has changed in those 10 years, garages are still a rule unto themselves. I’m glad I drive a company car where the servicing is included in the leasing agreement, however the 2 Toyota garages I have used so far (Slough and Basingstoke have both been hopeless, have over run and not carried out work they should have done.) Kwik fit (Slough) do our tyres and they don’t seem to be able to put hub caps back on properly!
Unless you really need to use a main dealer I would stick to a local garage that has been recommended, but if you do need a VW dealer don’t use this one!
