Pizza Hut UK

First, in the last decade, Pizza Hut US has moved away from «dine in» restaurants and moved the vast majority of their restaurants to carryout/​delivery service only. Off the top of my head, I know of one «dine in» Pizza Hut restaurant — the rest are all carryout/​takeaway stores. Aside from my visit to Pizza Hut Maidenhead, it has probably been 15 years since I entered a pizza hut and had a meal inside the restaurant. They just don’t exist in the US anymore and I think that is because smaller (and more authentic) pizza restaurants have popped up and these restaurants took away from the Pizza Hut «dine in» crowd. Pizza Hut was smart to move away from the sit down restaurants (lots of cost overhead with rent, servers, furniture, etc) and to the carryout/​delivery only stores.
On to the differences…
1. The sauce in the US is spicier, it has more of a bite. The sauce in the UK is more of a simple tomato sauce with little flavor. They also put about twice the amount of sauce on the pizza in the US than they do in the UK.
2. The thin crust (Italian crust in UK is the thinest) in the US is thinner. Think Pizza Express’s «romana» crust but crunchier. The actual crust (around the edge of the pizza) is folded up toward the ceiling at a 90 degree angle (I suppose to act as a rim to the pizza to hold the sauce and toppings in place?) and it is crunchy, like a cracker. Using your hands, you can break it in half. I also think that they probably coat it with a little bit of butter as it appears a little greasy… and good.
The Italian crust offered in the UK is called «hand tossed» in the US. Which is the middle thickness of the US crusts (thin, hand tossed, pan).
3. The pepperoni is spicier and more flavorful.
4. The types of pizzas are different but that’s a regional thing. For example, Pizza Hut US does not carry piri piri chicken pizza or BBQ Americano but some locations carry taco pizza. While this is expected due to cultural differences, my choices in Pizza Hut UK are limited because I miss some of the choices that are offered at Pizza Hut US.
