I absolutely love Indian food and the Bengal Spice is my favourite place in the area.
As I look for authenticity, as well as quality and keen pricing, I was delighted to see dishes on the menu with some classic Bangladeshi ingredients: Naga Lamb (worlds hottest chilli, with a great flavour), Chicken Shatkora (a regional citrus fruit) and Cabbage Bhaji (better than it sounds!)
It’s Bangladeshi cuisine, but not the tourist– or post-​pub stuff you find in suburbs or on Brick Lane these days.
The restaurant is modern and welcoming — hey, what am I doing? Stay away — its mine!

If you like indian, you’ll like Bengal Spice. A great local restaurant in Loughton. From the outside, its quite deceiving as the restaurant is actually at the back down a long corridor and the bar area is all you see. I like it mainly for the quality of the food, portion sizes (big!) and the service. Also, its chicken patties starter are great (they’re not on the menu anymore but if you ask nicely for them, you might get lucky!). I go regularly and get take-​aways too, and I’m rarely disappointed. If you live locally they also do a loyalty card which is worth the money if you eat indian often. Well, you’ve got to support your local restaurants haven’t you!
