This restaurant is another example of why food in this country is so poor, The menu looks fine and, originally, the materials may be fine. But the execution is pretty dreadful. Management claim that the fish(we had turbot, twice) is plainly cooked so that the flavour of the fish can shine through. In fact the turbot was tasteless. Unpleasantly dull. Once we sent it back and they did not charge, but such quality should have been regarded as a disaster. Yet all over the restaurant people were eating happily. Here and elsewhere people look at the dish but do not judge the taste. Maybe English palates are not trained, as palates are in France and Italy. So food overall gets worse and worse

Food and service were great! Would definitely go again. Like most places in London, it’s best to make reservations. We had the cheese soufflé, French beans, truffle mashed potatoes, salmon and trout. All were great and pretty decadent(buttery, in a good way). Desserts were great too. Loved the petit fours. The fruit place was fresh and a great way to end the meal.

I dined here a couple of weekends past. I ordered the Jersey Rock oysters starter, Marinated Romney Marsh lamb leg main dish(the daily carving Trolley) and followed these with Blood orange and sherry trifle. All the drink options are fine –mine was a Bollinger Le grande Annee The food was more than satisfactory and the atmosphere was grand. The main short coming I found was in my expectation of this place. I, despite the long years I’ve lived in London, had not dined here despite its reputation. I had heard time and again that it was a veritable institution of London so I was let down and left feeling deflated that it was simply an ordinary dinner — nothing truly remarkable or special.

Very smart and also ‘clubby’ in an exclusive privileged way. But a warm welcome and service that is genuinely pleased to help you, relaxing you, which is partly what you are after. Very attractive inside, quiet and very comfortable. Very simple dishes that make getting them perfect more difficult, so one ‘special of the day’(salmon) underwhelmed me, but the rest of the meal was fine and the pud especially so. Some good wines and just possible to be able to drink there, but certainly seriously expensive. Hence my rating.

Personally, I think this restaurant is designed for BAFTA celebrities, so that can feel the expense and the pain to their wallets. Nonetheless, the wine price at Wilton’s mean nothing to them. I really love the food here, but for the average person to eat in Wilton, you would have to rob a bank, ‘Heat’ style(Michael Mann film) to dine in here. I think Wilton’s are more expensive than Simpson’s-on-the-Strand. The last time, I was in Wilton was back in October 2005.

I came here on someone else’s dime and we sat in a private room in the back so we could take our jackets off. Otherwise, I don’t know if I would have came here. The food was solid. It truly is the best Scottish smoked salmon you will ever have. The halibut was good too with hollandaise sauce and a potato gallete. It was my first time having mushy peas too. Service was excellent.

Had a boozy lunch here on a Monday. The food is first-rate — best smoked salmon I’ve ever had. The service is excellent — you’ll find someone always available when you need something, if they haven’t already anticipated your need. You’re going to pay top-notch prices, but you won’t feel like you overpaid.

Given the wide spread of reviews and dissension here on Unilocal, let me see if I can help. This place is a British institution. It’s a hundred years old and feels it. It’s expensive and small — clubby — not in any way glamorous but if you or your dining partners crave a taste of yesteryear’s Britain… If you still pine after the good old days of the Raj… Or think that this newfangled NHS is wizard… This is probably the place for you. Reassuringly expensive and quaint. Not the best seafood in London but none too shabby either. Gentlemen — don’t forget to wear a coat and tie.

This is an iconic restaurant with great food! The wine list is sublime. It is truly refreshing to fing such an establishment it’s very classical although has a modern philosophy. The staff are charming. The menu is packed full of wild produce and its all simply prepared. Its expensive but when you go to Wiltons you get what you pay for!

Wiltons is an established, very traditional restaurant in the heart of the posh west end serving primarily English fayre — sauceless meat and fish. You have to wear a jacket which you must keep on during your meal despite any inadequacies in the a/c system. The décor is Gentlemen’s club, and the atmosphere is subdued. There are booths if you are looking for a little privacy but on the evidence of our visit, it isn’t soemwhere that gets too crowded in the evening. The food is OK — plain but well cooked and served, but the price… Jesus! Three of us sharing an average priced bottle of wine burned our way through £300+ for 3 courses plus coffee. In vfm terms, this place does not even register. If you want this style of restauarnt, go to the Guinea Grill which has better food, more atmosphere and is 2/3rds the price. Leave this one to the tourists.
