Great place for a gin! Beginners should try the gin flight, all other do not need any advice. A real ice block you get a huge piece of it into your glass… amazing! But beware of the opening hours: only during the week!

Came for the historical appeal, stayed for killer gin service. They have the best selection of gin I have seen to-date and paired each with an appropriate garnish. As a HUGE fan of gin and tonics, the Viaduct Tavern was on my list of must-sees in Fundon. Viaduct did not disappoint! Hendricks is usually my go-to, but found quite a few new favs today: –Adnam’s –Monkey 47 –209 –Bulldog Note: located in a business district. So, it is likely to be busy with nearby professionals looking for an after work refreshment rather than tourists like myself

Get the gin flight. Their gin menu is just as impressive. And where else can you get Monkey 47 Gin with a slice of Plum in a Copa glass and a chip from Block ice? As a Gin and Tonic lover, who was disappointed with the lack of interest in London at their pubs, I was in heaven as soon as I stepped into the door. Enjoy!

This is a fascinating old Gin-Palace style place. Beautiful woodwork, mirrors, stamped copper ceiling. Ironically they do not have much to offer in the gin arena. The place is divided into two distinct areas, one for the more affluent clientele back in the day and one for less fortunate(riff-raff like us). You will easily discern which is which. As others have mentioned, there is a former debtors prison below which if you ask nicely they will let you see. They say it is haunted.

I loved this place, we kind of happened to stumble into it while on the search for somewhere new to go, and this was an oddly delightful find. The bar itself has some great traditional decorations and the relief-tiled ceiling creates that great pub-vibe. The Viaduct is apparently known for its extensive gin list, but next to that board, there was a sign saying«ask us about our historic cells» clearly, if they wanted us to ask, we needed to find out! In the basement, they have old prison cells from back in the day when people couldn’t repay debts owed, they got taken into here! Kind of creepy, and I guess there’s a hole that goes through up to the street where family members could throw food down for the incarcerated. The staff provide a better blurb than I can obviously and they’ll show you around. I love getting a slice of history with my pints, so this place was right up my alley!

A wonderful pub that’s worth visiting just to gawp at the exquisite ceiling, and for the amazing décor. Dominating the corner of Holborn Viaduct opposite the Old Bailey, it has something of a reverse-Tardis impact — a huge front leading in to what is actually a small, snug boozer, high on character which can get crowded but rarely unpleasantly so. The fact on a summer’s evening you’ll regularly see hordes lining the pavements outside is testament to its popularity among a mixed clientele of local office staff, visitors to the Old Bailey, and workers from the nearby meat markets. The ales are well kept, the food is good, and the staff are invariably friendly.
