Great little place. Relaxed and cool atmosphere, friendly staff and a pub dog. Lunch menu was great, highly recommend the fish finger sandwich(it’s big, so consider not ordering the fries). Breakfast was perfectly cooked, prompt and just the right amount.

Must be worst pub I’ve been to in London. Service always slow, some arrogance with bar staff and the food is terrible. Given it a few goes but pie was so sloppy, but just had worst fish n chips of my life(completely overcooked for a start, mushy greens should be green yes? came with wedges… could go on). Wasn’t a one off my mates concurred with his too, give it a wide berth at all costs.

I have been to this pub a few times — for casual drinks and for Sunday lunch — and each time it’s been great. Most recently went there for Sunday Lunch with my family to celebrate my birthday. The ‘conservatory’ style area of the restaurant was great, as we had my little niece with us as well. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The food was spot on and the Roast portions were more than ample! Great location right on the Common. Totally recommend this pub & restaurant. I hear there’s a hotel upstairs too.

This place was once quite nice, I have never been back after seeing the manager smoking in the outside kitchen, but it looks still to be busy when the sun is out.

This place is certainly nice, with really interesting decorations inside and out. An alright selection of beers and ciders on tap at reasonable prices. Perfect for grabbing a drink after sitting on the common. Annoyingly though, you can’t actually see the common from the garden and you are forced to look at the road. Not their fault I suppose, just bad design.

Been here quite a few times now and Ive enjoyed it every time. It seems to have designated areas that depend on the type of social interaction that you require. You can sit outside in the beer garden, sit inside at the bar, sequester yourselves away in a more private area or even book a whole section of the pub! the sell some of the less well known beers such as Hoegaarden(I mean really! Can enough places sell this beer? Really?) Not too expensive and in a very nice location! Go have fun!

A pleasant summer’s evening at our local pub restaurant — but I have to report that the service in the restaurant section was indifferent, and the food regrettably poor, particularly given the pretty high prices by pub standards. Youngs plc ought to focus attention on why they are not making the most of one of their premier properties.

The windmill on the common is a great pub. It went through some serious renovation work about 3 years ago and is now the most popular pub in the clapham common area. My tip — On a hot sunny day, order a few beer in plastic glasses(or a jug of pimms) and wander out onto the common with your drinks. Perfect!

A fab place to enjoy a pub lunch on a sunny day, though be prepared to brave the crowds as the Common fills with sunseekers! They serve a really nice range of hearty grub at around £6-£8 per main depending on what you go for, and are nicely located on the edge of the Common quite near the lovely pond. There are lots of picnic tables outside for eating and drinking purposes; I’ve never been inside so I can’t comment on what happens in there, though it’s safe to assume there’s a bar of sorts ;) On days when the Common hosts music festivals the Windmill is a good place to catch some of the music — the sound won’t be the best but you get to sit down and eat and it doesn’t cost a penny to attend the show!

Really swish interiors, but doesn’t have a warm relaxed feel at all. Good for yodelling inside, as it can be a massive empty chasm during the day. Maybe once the bars, and walls and furnishing stop gleaming quite so much, the place will be a bit more welcoming. One star removed for serving a tiny portion of chips. Its inexcusable isn’t it. Chips are cheap to make — and they make me happy. Adieu!

Pretty average décor but great location for a summers drink. Have not eaten there and not sure I would, but worth dropping in for a drink in the sunshine if you can deal with the crowds.

Stunning pub for a late afternoon summer drink. Placed firmly on the Common, the pub is a regular for many sports teams who train on the common. Comfortable seating, areas suitable for big groups, it looks better inside than it does on the outside. I would agree that the pub is best in the summer, it’s worth being aware of the after parties it organises after some of the bigger festivals on the common. It’s a shame the beer garden is limited to the tables on the tarmac in front of the main entrance.

I visited this place on a Friday evening and it was so full I barely managed to reach the bar to get a drink. It seems like the kind of place which is probably really pleasant on a Sunday afternoon. It overlooks the green so has nice views and a nice area outdoors. Inside it is huge with big wooden tables and lots of cosy corners. However as I was saying, on weekend evenings it is heaving and takes on more of a bar atmos than that of a pub.

Having been here a couple of times recently for lazy weekend eating and drinking I can say the Windmill has risen right up my list of Clapham boozers. Previously I used to think this place inside was like an overgrown travellodge a bit too boring however come a sunny day this place is transformed. The food is good, there’s a good range of beer, wine and assorted fruit based drinks for the ladies(copyright Al Murray). Will update my review when I go there during the winter but highly recommend it currently.

I’m not a huge fan of pubs right by the main roadside. I hate it in fact. They always have seating outside, but all you can see hear and smell are cars and buses going past. What’s the point? Luckily for the Windmill, it’s also right next to Clapham Common so it’s not so bad. And actually, it’s a rather nice little boozer. I only found myself hear yesterday after a mix up with what time I was due to meet the other half. I was early, he was late. So to pass the time i thought i’d go and get myself a beer. Unfortunately, I then remembered that being a scatterbrain I’d left my wallet at home that day. Ten minutes of scrabbling around in my handbag gave me almost enough for half a lager. not quite. That’ll cost you £1.75 here, and i had £1.50. While they refused to let me off the 25p(and quite rightly, but I had to ask — didn’t I?) they did let me have half a coke for 90p instead of the usual £2 which was nice of them. They also replaced a girls drinks after she spilt them all over the bar. They’re really nice staff here. As for the place, well it’s nice inside and I’d really like to come back and have dinner here. But as it was still warm yesterday I perched outside. It’s a pretty good place to people watch, despite the buses streaming past. I’ll pop back here soon. It’s a pretty cool pub.

This is a perfect pub for almost everything outdoors it’s a great place to drink on a Summer day, or even under a patio heater on an Autumn evening. Indoors, the place is vast, much bigger than it looks at first sight. The entrance area is quite traditional in style with large tables and armchairs, round the back there are sofas a plenty, nice lighting and a fantastic atmosphere. The pub quiz’s inn the big open lounge-like area are fantastic. On the food front, there’s a few choices you can choose from bar snacks, a sit down pub meal or you can eat in the very stylish restaurant all of it’s delicious! The staff here are lovely too, my only complaint would be that it can sometimes get so busy that getting served becomes a bit of a mission but you’d be a fool to let that stop you going! The Windmill is cool in Summer, cosy in the Winter and a generally great place to hangout as a couple or a group.

My first experience of the Windmill was like this. It was in the summer, and I was sitting outside waiting for my friend to come back with our drinks when an extremely drunk man staggered past me to take a piss in the bushes. He subsequently staggered back to me and wanted to shake my hand(why not just piss on my hand directly, and save some time). Well, I never expected much from the Windmill but it’s actually not a bad pub, not bad at all. It’s quite different from a lot of other pubs, a bit posh but not in a pretentious or off-putting way. The rooms are really very nice. Another advantage is that it is very spacious, if you’re with a big group of people you should still be able to fit around a table without splitting into two groups. And of course, extremely handy in the summer if you’re sitting out on the common, just pop in to get some drinks and enjoy them outside.

The Windmill is all about drinking out on the common, so it’s a summer venue for sure. Oh wait — what summer?! OK — there were a few sunny days. Thr problem is that it’s basically too popular on the all too infrequent occasions you could sit on the common without looking like you’ve wet yourself, therefore it’s a nightmare to get served. The staff are generally from the southern hemisphere… therefore the service, well you know what to expect. Other than that, good summer drinking.

The Windmill pub looks so nice situated quite far back from the road on Clapham Common southside. I’d somehow convinced myself that it had a beer garden on the other side looking onto the common but upon going there realised that all the outside seating is in two areas at the front. It’s a pleasant enough place, we ordered a plate of nachos which were disappointing and over priced but I’d would come here for a drink again!
