The White Hart

This is an excellent pub with a good selection of ales and great food. Its location is a winner as it is a short walk to Waterloo Station. It’s easy to assume you will only find chains in the area around the station and South Bank Centre but this place is worth the extra few minutes walk.

Fantastic British pub! We came here during the early evening and the place was bumping! Everyone had obviously just left work and had grabbed a table early, however, we didn’t mind standing at the bar and conversing with the locals.
I wish we could have tried the food! The menu looked stellar and prices were affordable.

Lovely pub on a back road in Waterloo! I didn’t eat here, but it was a cozy spot for drinks after dinner, and the service was kind.

Boxing Day miracle find — the pie franchise restaurant was closed, and we lucked into this perfect pub. Amazing scotch egg, with yolk still a bit runny. But the «pie» de resistance was the steak, pancetta and ale pie, served with a gorgeous gravy and nice roasted veg and mash. Great local place that promotes local, sustainable and natural British ingredients.

Tucked away in a side street near Waterloo station is this lovely little pub. We went there for team lunch and absolutely loved it. It is beautiful, with a traditional décor and massive windows that allow you to look outside and enjoy the sun but also avoid the cold in the winter. When it’s warmer outside you can also sit outside and have a great time in the sun. The food was amazing, everyone loved their meal and you can pick the set £10 menu and enjoy two courses for a price less than what you’d get one normal main for. I would definitely recommend having your lunch there if you’re in the area and it may even become your new local!

Charming little shithole

Fantastic Sunday roast! Hub had pork w crackin, son had aged beef and I had fish n chips. All dishes were freshly made and delicious. Service was excellent!

I went there for lunch as we found it on Unilocal as a pub with not bad reviews. This place is very small and pretty quiet. Seems more like coffee shop than pub. I wanted a cezar salad sandwich but I got just a cezar salad (but it was my husband mistake). The salad wasnt tasty at all. Very creamy and had fish in it. I didnt see it at the menu but why would you put fish in chicken ceazar salad? It was also pretty expensive.

Between dealing with an unhappy-​to-​be-​at-​work mocha skinned missy and waiting 5 minutes to be served 3 pints (clear bar, no queue, mind you) this White Hart is one miserable venue.
The ground floor is small enough to not need so many damn tables and chairs. Honestly, have we a furniture hoarding problem?
The proprietor could also benefit from a few management lessons — I’d recommend starting with human resourcing: your staff should be selling and serving, not testily shepherding guests into your miserable 2×4 feet smoking pen and playing safety patrol on Cornwall Road.
This ragtag operation is truly giving White Hart a bad name.

This is one of our go-​to locals because they have Franziskaner on Tap for me and it’s a 4 minute walk from our house. Unfortunately it can get VERY crowded with the «after work — catch a pint before I get on the train at waterloo» crowd and service can be a bit slow, but at most other times it’s a nice little place to go. Not the coziest and we haven’t eaten there so I can’t speak for the food, but it’s always looked pretty good on others’ plates.

This is hidden away in a series of small streets, yet very accessible from the Waterloo area. We were looking for an English pub to eat at, and most of them in the main Waterloo area were absolutely slammed, so it’s a relieve to find this little place.
We walked in and they didn’t have any tables, but they were really friendly so we hung out at the bar for a little bit until one opened up. They actually helped us get a seat, which was very nice of them. Most people just seemed to be here for pre-​game — get a drink, have a chat, and leave. We actually were interested in having dinner, and we ordered a caesar salad, the fish and chips, and one of the Sunday roasts.
Caesar salad was, well, caesar salad. It would’ve been quite normal except for the little fillets of anchovies. Nice touch. The fish and chips was huge. It was a big fish fillet, and it was fresh and delicious. The mister really enjoyed it (guess we didn’t go to the UK for nothing!). However, my sunday roast beef was so-​so. The gravy was quite bland, and the meat was pretty tough until I get to the stuffing. At least the stuffing was good.
The environment was friendly, the food was decent, and the price wouldn’t break your bank. This is definitely a cute little pub to visit if you’re in the area.

Nicely hidden away behind the IMAX and Waterloo station — a small walk from the south bank but still a proper pub. Space is limited when busy but a great food menu and nice staff mean I would return. Tried the tapas style bar snacks on my visit– all nicely sized and tasty (pics above) — they are around a fiver each but you can get any 3 for £12– I particularly recommend the sweet potato wedges– very chunky and delicious. Crowd seemed to be locals going for after work drinks as it was even popular on a Monday eve.

English pubs and I are starting to become good friends — something I had never thought would happen. Coming here for lunch was not my idea, but I was too hungry to protest. As soon as you walk into this place, the smell of mouldy mop overwhelms you — something I have come to accept at these places, either mouldy mop or bathroom — i’ll pick mouldy mop please…
Sitting down in a near empty pub during weekday lunch hours plummeted my confidence in this choice, but at this point, there was nothing we can do. I picked up their 2 for £20 lunch specials where two lunch items and two drinks (beer too) will cost you £20 and almost went for some of stuff on the menu when my eyes came across the regular menu that had Pork Chorizo burger — erm… i’ll take that for £11. My colleague also had his eyes on the pastrami sandwich for £6 so we decided to split the two. GREAT IDEA! I was so happily surprised that the food here is actually quite awesome.
The burger was juicy and flavourful dripping with caramelized onions while the pastrami sandwich was the bomb. The pastrami covered in peppercorn was intense in flavour and paired nicely with the pickled red vegetables and coleslaw. One of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. I walked away extremely satisfied.
The only glitch in the whole experience was when two of our coworkers realized that they both got items from the lunch special and didnt realize it and when they tried to ask for the free drinks (each menu special on its own are just under £10) the dude said no. That was kinda sad.

While moving my daughter into Grad School at nearby Kings College we first saw this pub from the window of her Stamford St Apartment. After a 6 hour flight delay from the USA and loading her luggage into her new living quarters we were both ready for a Pint and then some.
It was a Friday evening and a good sized crowd. Good selection of beer and ale so we ordered away. Bartenders were all nice and helpful to the new «Americans» in the bar. They had several English Cask Ales plus Peroni, Carlsburg, Euro Bud, Franziskaner and some other I don’t remember. The beer flowed and we met lots of people who were all very friendly. Im sure my daughter is a regular there by now!

Cute pub in general. We weren’t planning on coming here but were brought in by the crowd outside. To help, we found a table right away.
It took a while to get service at the bar but after that they were quick. Prices were average, though they do have some Summer Special cocktails right now that looked interesting.
They have specials most nights, like a pub quiz on Monday, and 20% off wine on Wednesday’s. They have a full menu that’s reasonable (half chicken with sides for $ 16). They also have snacks at the bar that include sweet potato wedges and salt and pepper squid.
Oh and if you needed another reason to come; the chalkboard announcing specials is mounted in front of a flat screen tv.

We had a great time in London and I enjoyed visiting many pubs. The last day my wife and I visited White Hart and so glad we did. Like other reviews on it, while it’s in Waterloo it feels like it’s not. Tucked away from Waterloo station and the busyness of that area, that small walk makes you feel like you’ve entered into a whole other neighborhood.
Good service, solid food, and great beer. My wife’s pear cider was one of the best we’ve had in a while too. Thanks for the last impression of London White Hart!

Nice place on a side street, nearish to that Sainsbury’s where you wait for Busses South.
A really fantastic selection of beers– belgians, ales, 4(!) ciders (OK, 2 ciders, a scrumpy, and a perry, but still) which rotates.
good food– though you’ll need to arrive early on, say, Sunday if you want a roast– they’re often gone by 3.
This is a real hidden gem in the wasteland of Waterloo-​area pubs and whatnot (I’m looking at you, Firehouse)

If you’re in need of a beer or a quick bite in the Waterloo area, you could do worse than pop into the White Hart. It’s tucked away down a backstreet and therefore off the all-​too-​well trodden path.
It’s not a huge place but has a heap of tables scattered around the central bar. The service is quick and there’s a substantial selection of beers on tap. A quick glance at the menu hinted a range of pub food’s on offer. The prices are more than reasonable, especially considering its proximity to the Southbank and Waterloo Station.

My favorite pub in the entire world, the White Hart is a gem of the Southbank area. Located on Cornwall Road, just one blocks south of the Waterloo tube stop, the White Hart is a quintessential British pub. The big wooden tables are great for groups, while the small, cozy nooks are perfect for grabbing for a drink with that special someone :)
I recommend going in the afternoons, as it can be hard to get a table after 6 or so. Plus, during lunch time they have a great special where you can get a sandwich and a pint for only £5.
They have a terrific selection of beers on tap, including some of my personal favorites: Peroni, Leffe Blonde, Hoegaarden and Fruli (an amazing strawberry beer).
