Great pub. A girl I once fancied used to work here but she doesn’t anymore. This is both a good and bad thing. Don’t order the veal.

Went for Sunday roast and beverages this past week, food was decent drinks also decent, service was semi-glacial but everytime we would get up to see where something was it would miraculously appear. It almost felt like we were some sort of sociological experiment to determine the max wait time of restaurant patrons… next time I would skip the food and just drink here… outdoor seating is great on a nice sunny day

Clearly a local’s favourite — I should imagine it more for eating during the day and drinkin’ in the evening. The menu is unremarkable gastro pub fare, cooked to a workmanlike standard. Two burgers were ordered by the party, one medium-well done, the other«as rare as possible” — both were done to exactly the same standard of slightly over cooked. A fairly good wine list. Good coffee. Staff were different sorts of odd– from the super unfriendly barman, to the table waiter who studiously ignored our table and had to physically be chased down, to the over friendly guy(looking a bit like Mr. Tumble) who appeared out of the back and took over. All in all, pretty run of the mill.

Great pub and I love the pub quiz here but… avoid the food. Not sure if it’s bad kitchen hygiene or just poor cooking skills but have had numerous food poisonings from here(and unfortunately so have many friends) Stick to the booze and crisps and you can’t go wrong.

Nice pub. Really good atmosphere. Food is good but a little bit over priced.

Spacious locals’ favourite with an excellent food menu and popular outdoor seating in the summer. The quiz on Tuesdays is great fun and the staff are generally friendly’; leaning towards loopy. I really like the atmosphere in here; it’s always relaxed and chatty and easy-going. If you’re heading here for a well-deserved midweek pint or even a Friday night blow out, you won’t be the only ones.

If I could have imagined a quirky pub to call my local, I don’t think I could have done better than Prince Regent. I walk past it every day between home and the train station, and it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside to see it. The atmosphere is great. Of course it can get crowded, but noise levels remain manageable even then(except for Tuesday pub quizzes). It has outdoor seating, if you can get it. It’s comfy without being gloomy and fun without being frenetic. The food is great. Fresh ingredients, good preparation even on standard pub fare, and then they have the more interesting dishes. The chocolate brownie with pistachio ice-cream is a must-have. For a pub dinner in Herne Hill, I would say you can’t do better than here.

The food is good, the portions are getting smaller and over priced.

I have now eaten there 10 times and like the atmosphere. Although a little pricey the food is excellent and I find the staff both polite and willing to please. The Florence is no contest. Ron Hughes

The Prince Regent is the Cameron Fry to the(nearby rival) Florence’s Ferris Bueller. It’s a bit more relaxed and a little less shouty but still very cool. Although my analogy ends there as to the best of my knowledge Cameron doesn’t serve big hearty French dishes(and anyway, many folk believe that Cameron Fry and Ferris Bueller are the same person ). Love the deep bar, picnic benches and warm, weathered furniture; not so much the weird seating arrangement that plonks three big tables where several small ones could sit instead. As long as you get there by 3.30pm on a Friday, you’ll get a seat. The eccentric staff rang from odd to bat-shit crazy; most are very friendly though and they create a great local vibe, mainly by coming in and getting hammered on their days off. Wines from the bar are a bit scarce but there is a good rotation of ales. Black Sheep and Mad Goose are nearly always in residence and there are usually two guest ales as well. The food is awesome: oysters, rillettes, duck salad, lots of game and rich, meaty sauces. Not too sure about veggie options but the ratatouille is just amazing — a phrase I never thought I would hear myself saying. It’s probably best for a midweek pint or diner for any occasion. Bit awkward for big groups if you’re not eating or it’s too cold to sit outside. Two courses for £11 on Mondays, very good quiz night on Tuesdays. Bar closes around midnight. Get the train to Herne Hill or the tube to Brixton and walk or get the 3, 37 or 196 bus.

Unfortunately I have to agree with the other reviewers — the service here is dreadful, and the food is far over-priced, particularly for the area. Take a walk five minutes down the road(towards Herne Hill), and you’ve got The Florence there. No contest.

An above average gastropub with food that errs on the side of pricey. Brusque service when they’re busy, but the music, décor and atmosphere are worth it, even when it’s full on a Sunday. Nice outside tables on a sunny day. Worth a visit, especially now the Florence, just along the road, has siphoned off a lot of the prams n’ pimms brigade.

Hmm, It’s a nice gastropub in a nice location and a nice place to meet friends. The food is an average gastropub level. That said it is a nice place to meet up and it also has some nice table outside.

I am loathe to admit this but I love their vegetarian sausage and mash(and I’m not even a vegetarian!) The pub itself has a bright airy feel to it and I love the woodwork. Nothing fancy but it has a nice comfy feel to it. Sitting out front is also good but gets very crowded on the weekends.
