The only thing this hotel has going for it is its centrality. The beds feel like a wooden crate covered in stiff sheets. The bathrooms are tiny and the toilet didn’t work very well. The staff entered our room twice while we were still in the room. Once as we were sleeping around 8am, and another around 10am. It seems they clean all the rooms at once, so the already narrow hallways are lined with filthy towels. The continental breakfast is a couple of cereal options, with the option of paying £5 for an upgrade. Old eggs, sad looking beans, and some meat which has looked like it’s seen better days. The reviews on trip advisor do not adequately match what you get at this hotel. It’s so bad that if I wasn’t leaving London early tomorrow, I would find a new place to stay.

The hotel itself is pretty squalid and generally does not win too many prizes. However, the staff here is very friendly. Ricarda in particular was always very nice, patient and friendly, I hope she’s still there. Hotel itself, well… has seen better days.

Terrible hotel. I bought a BA package and the photos and website looked good. The hotel not so much. Small, dingy room, small beds, bathtub a potential killer=slip and fall-and I was charged 30 pounds for 4 phone calls for which they demanded payment on the spot, not at check out. And no wifi in the rooms, just the lobby. Avoid the restaurant at all costs. Never again as there are plenty of other hotels in the area.

Hôtel bien situé mais vieillot. Chambres petites.

One star as I can’t give none, room and breakfast were fine. The hotel is having a floor renovated and in their ultimate wisdom someone started drilling at 08:00 in the morning, although annoying, the worst part was the Irish lady on reception who denied it happened at all, accused my colleague of lying and was just incredibly rude! I couldn’t believe how she spoke to customers, really unprofessional and I think she may have been the front office manager too– a great example to her staff!

This hotel is great for its location – smack dab in central London, in the nice neighborhood of Bloomsbury. The Russell Square underground station is a minute’s walk away, Barclays Bank is right around the corner, and everything else is just down the street. The double room that my friend and I got was a lot more spacious than I expected. the bed was big enough to fit three people comfortably, and there was more than enough room to walk around despite our luggage and belongings lying around. In comparison, the bathroom was disappointingly small. It was perhaps a 4×4 space, which I guess isn’t too bad… But a bathtub instead of a shower would have been nice. On the same note, the bath towels they provide are so thin and small! And there was a very noticeable stain on one of them. Also, this hotel is pretty old. Some of the walls need to be painted, some of the hallways need to be deodorized… Walking down the hallway, everything is just too florescent and a bit stuffy. The windows and curtains inside the room were also old. There was no screen on the window, only a loose latch(but I didn’t worry because we were on the second floor) that kept the window from closing the entire way. Downstairs, the concierge is wonderful. The reception desk is always sufficiently staffed with friendly employees who smile all the time and help you in whatever way they can. I had booked the hotel room the morning of(just a few hours before check-out), and when my friend and I arrived there two or three hours later, the guy remembered exactly who I was and what I requested, and promptly entered the credit card information and handed us the key to our room even though check-in isn’t until 2 p.m.(and it was only 11:30 a.m.!). Later, we asked how to get to a particular tourist site, and though the same guy couldn’t tell us, he immediately referred us to another employee who did. He even directed us to the underground station and told us what else we could do around our destination. And he handed us London tourist and underground maps just before we left. Also, our room did not originally come with a refrigerator, so I requested that the front desk keep my stuff in their refrigerator for me. But the concierge said that he’d just ring somebody to deliver a mini-fridge to our room while we were out. In the meantime, he said, he would refrigerate whatever I needed them to. When we came back, the fridge was present and plugged in! So nice. On the note of safety, I never had to worry. The hotel room doors lock when they close(you need to open the door from the outside with a key, and then just turn the latch from the inside), so I never needed to worry about someone breaking in or anything. Because room access is via the key on an inconveniently long rod, it isn’t too easy to carry the key around. So you have to drop off the key whenever you leave the hotel, and when you return, you must show your breakfast card(the yellow receipt they provide you with in order to retrieve key and get breakfast on the indicated mornings) to the porter to get back into the room. How they keep track of who leaves their keys and who doesn’t… I have no idea. Regardless, I felt safe, and the leaving the key with the porter and then retrieving it process never felt like a hassle that it seems it would be. Breakfast was eh. The dining room is extremely spacious, but the food was far from extremely delicious. It was the usual continental breakfast – toast, eggs(of four kinds), English bacon, pinto beans… Everything was just eh. Maybe it was because I was just tired of English breakfast after having had it for four weeks in a row. I was unimpressed. But at least I was full… I thought the price for this hotel was decent… 108 pounds for a double room including breakfast. It’s 81 pounds for a single room. I’d stay here again for its great service and its relative affordability.

very central if you can have a really centre of london this could be just outside it… Bed were good enough to just fall asleep in at the end of the night, though i dont recall ever makiing it home… I went at new years, staff were really good, friendly and nice. met and irish girl there from galway too. But the breakfast table which i only made it to once out of the 4days i was there was ok nothing great, it felt very hollow, kinda empty and poeple kept to themselves, including the staff… Very expensive

The rooms are slim, the breakfast is light and it does the job. Overall a solid hotel for any traveller who is looking for the basic necessities. And of course with london you have expensive hotels and expensive hotels. I don’t have any real complaints about this place at all, the rooms are a little dated but the staff was very accommodating in answering any and all questions I had, and they were happy to help in any way possible, which makes up for the slightly outdated appearance.

My mother always stays here when she comes to london/passes through because it is cheap. The best rooms overlook Russell Square, so it can be quite good value, but all the rooms are small, cramped and feel like they’ve been done out as cheaply as possible. The best thing about the place is definitely the sunday carvery, the roasts are terrific, and the worst is the evening meal. Last time i ate here 6 different people came over to ask if we’d ordered, so evidently they’re completely unorganised, and the sauce on the profiteroles was actually squeezed out of a tube at teh table. Nobody was intelligent enough to just do it in the kitchen into a bowl. So that’s what you can expect. Go and eat at the brunswick centre instead, it’s much better.
