The George

Errrr. This used to be my local pub, steps from my old flat. I had heard such good things about this place that when i first visited it was with very high hopes. They were promptly shattered. It was grim, dreary, stank of red bull and was full of over aged (and overweight) men, sleazing over any woman that walked in.
A good thing about the George is it’s huge screen to watch sports. But really that’s it.
I wouldn’t recommend you visit, the tacky faux cream leather sofas sum it up. Not for me ta.

Situated a stones throw from Clapham Common and close to Clapham South station this large pub benefits from an excellent location. Refurbished to rip out all character (or so it seems) and the place is dominated by leather sofas and TV screens. It is a large venue and shows sports so probably a good choice if you want to watch the football. There are a couple of decent pool tables at the back if that’s your thing. Food is of the standard pub fayre and is fine but nothing to rave about. Clientele is mixed and there can be a few local characters found here at times. This is not the sort of place that you would go out of your way to visit and does lack character but if you live locally and are a sports/​pool fan its probably worth a look.
