We come in at first of january. So it wasn’t crowded by after working people nor students. Only some old men and women stays there and tourists like us. The interior is ok but not in best condition. You have to order at the bar and can take away your drinks. The meals are served at the table. We had fish and chips combined with peas. Except the peas everything was ok. They were lukewarm only and coming directly from out a old can from the supermarket. The service was friendly. Toilets were clean and modern. Prices are the main Argument to come in. Until 5 o’clock in the afternoon you get a dish with drink included for below 8£ My summary: acceptable food and drink for little money

I walked around Greenwich on a Friday night at about 8pm looking for somewhere to have a quick, quiet pint before my friend arrived. The only place, even at this prime, post work drinking hour that was busy was The Gate Clock. There aren’t a shortage of pubs in Greenwich. Lots of them beautiful historical buildings and conveniently close to the sights like the park and the Cutty Sark. Yet, why was the only place that was busy this spoons. I’ll tell you why, it’s cheap, it’s big, it’s cheerful(enough). I did wonder why this place had bouncers from 7pm onward– never a good sign, but I’ve never really seen it kick off here before. Drink offers, seating, cheeky bowl of chips before you head out somewhere of an eve. How could you go wrong? So no, I shant diss this spoons, I’m simply going to stick my thumbs up and say ‘A-OK’.

At this pub, the usual Wetherspoons’ beer and burger combo is only £3.99 instead of the usual £4.99 — deal! Probably the best food/drink deal in London. Other than that, experience is pretty standard, especially compared to other Wetherspoons pubs that I’ve been to. It’s right by the bus stop(literally 5 steps) when I take the bus into Greenwhich, and right around the corner from many sights in central Greenwich, so points for convenience.

This is a pub in the Wetherspoon chain that showed promise at first, only to then terribly disappoint. My friends and I are big Wetherspoon fans; we totally support their incredible prices and love their food. We try to go to all the Wetherspoons we can find and scope out the differences which often are substantial. Unfortunately this place was comically faulty in almost every way. First I’d like to say I’m reviewing this under the pretenses that it has standard Wetherspoon food, so I’m more analyzing the experience, prices, etc. When we got there, it was very crowded and luckily found a table to support our group of four. We were very happy to find that the classic beer and burger deal Wetherspoon pubs tout was actually 3.99 instead of 4.99. That’s an insane deal. Burger, fries, and a full pint for 3.99? Seriously it would be financially irresponsible not to eat at Wetherspoons that rock that discount. That’s about where the positives end. We were sitting there, having ordered and waiting for our food while drinking our pints, when an employee slaps a laminated placard on the table that read«THISTABLEWILLBEREMOVEDAFTER6PM.» My first reaction was laughter as we all looked at the employees with shocked and confused faces. First of all, it was 6:30 already. Secondly, we were sitting and waiting for food we ordered, how the hell do they expect for us to get up and leave? Thirdly, we’d understand if that sign was on the table when we got there, but of course it wasn’t. After trying to stop laughing, I asked three different employees why we had to leave our table and where we were supposed to go, and each gave us comically roundabout answers that basically revealed they had no idea why or what the purpose was. Finally the manager told us they usually remove tables so that they can have more standing space, but after explaining we were mid-eating, he told us we can eat and then move. We decided even after eating we were going to stay at the table as long as we were comfortable. After that mess, we ran into yet another weird problem. My friend ordered his burger/beer deal with a swipe credit card, the only cards Americans have(rather than pin chip cards). This was fine and the transaction took place smoothly with no question. But then when he went back to the bar to order another pint, they got confused about his card and after several complications they completed the transaction(took a very long time). When I went up to the bar to order a pint with my card, they told me I couldn’t and that they got confused with my friend and shouldn’t have let him use his card. I figured it was because I was only ordering one pint which was below a minimum of theirs or something. Well… no. My friend goes up to order a dessert and pint which is well over any minimum a place would have, and they didn’t let him use his card. The weird thing is that they CAN process swipe cards but chose not to, especially after doing it without question for his first transaction. So weird. Sheesh that was a long explanation, basically bring cash haha. My burger had some legit fat or bone chunks in it which I’ve never experienced in Wetherspoon burgers before. I hurt my tooth on the first chunk I bit down on. It was really hard. Another problem was that being a group of four, we ordered in pairs right after one another to watch the table, and the second pair who ordered their burgers had their order take about 20 minutes longer than ours. So we were done eating before they even started. I have no idea what caused this delay as we ordered RIGHT after one another. This also wasn’t a very clean place just compared to other Wetherspoons. So the initially great prices turned into a bad experience at The Gate Clock. I suggest finding another one in this great chain! This is the first bad ‘spoons I’ve been to. Keep the faith!

It’s a Wetherspoons. I’m sure you already know what Wetherspoons is like, but for the uninitiated it’s like the fast food chain of pubs. Only visited the once– we had spent enough money in the market and decided to eat lunch somewhere very cheap. Food was the same as every other Wetherspoons(i.e. okay). There were lots of students from the nearby university present and as the bar filled up with touristy types the wait to be served for subsequent drinks was far too long. Compare to the other pricier venues around Greenwich thug, this is a welcome venue for anyone looking to save a few pounds.

when your in Greenwich, you cant do better than this if you’re looking for a cheap pint and a bite to eat. The staff are nice, atmosphere is good, and its in the centre of Greenwich so you can have a walk by the Thames before/after. I like it!

Apart from the usual things you associate with wetherspoons, it does the best pint of Stella in Greenwich.

Typical Wetherspoons in terms of look and feel, clean and modern, thank god for no music which means that you can enjoy a conversation without having some soul destroying chart hit ruining your day. Breakfast is inexpensive but very nice, large portions, well cooked and a half decent cup of coffee to go with it. The staff were polite and helpful. Overall far better than it has any right to be.

Ahoy! I think I actually hate this place. Twice I’ve been in here and twice I couldn’t wait to leave. In the evenings it seems to take an eternity to get served at the bar(I spent about 20 minutes at a not particularly busy bar while the bar stewards(!) took their time figuring out what tap did what exactly while chatting amongst themselves and then served their friends time and time again instead of customers queueing) — then there was the flat beer to contend with. Disappointment isn’t exclusively reserved for the evenings however, the afternoon has it’s unpleasantness too. It seems no matter what time you turn up there will be any number of people SHOUTING their conversations across the room(particularly in the upstairs bar). So distracting it is I found it difficult at times to maintain a normal conversation with a few people sitting around me. Shouting aside, you’ll be likely to encounter, on more than one occasion I’ll be willing to bet, some of the punters arguing or just plain fighting(or anything in between!). This seems to involve groups of friends, couples or even strangers who apparently just like to be involved in some kind of fracas. You shouldn’t expect too much from a Weatherspoons bar but it’s places like this that make you think that staying in and watching something(anything!!) on TV isn’t such a bad idea really. Peace out, Ian

Big pub at the entrance to the soulless arcade that you exit into when leaving the DLR. Inexpensive but characterless

The Gate Clock is a large Wetherspoons just outside the main one way system in Greenwich. There are two bars, one very large drinking area downstairs, and a smaller bar area up the stairs. Toilets are very nice and quite funky for a Wetherspoons! It is neat enough inside with modern décor, but really just a typical Wetherspoons with no music, no real atmosphere but cheap beer! Food is average and nothing special. Great if you’re a little bit skint but probably worth avoiding if you can afford to go to a pub with a bit more character. It can get very crowded in here and bar waiting times can be a bit lengthy during busy periods.

Much bigger than your regular Wetherspoon on a couple of levels. Bar upstairs as well. Food and deals as you would expect.

Toller Pub in Greenwich. Die Einrichtung ist sehr cool, etwas urig. Man muss an der Bar bestellen und im Voraus zahlen, die Getränke nimmt man mit zum Tisch, das Essen wird serviert. Sehr leckeres Essen und nettes Personal.

Whilst at Uni in Greenwich my final year placed me in student halls based above this pub. It was a convenient and cheap place to drink, albeit very soulless as is to be expected from anywhere brandishing under the Whetherspoons monika. Despite rumours that our rodent infestation was nested underneath the kitchen of this place there was a fairly unholy amount of grub that passed my lips in this establishment. More than I’d care to admit Like all Spoons pubs there is no music here which is particularly out of place when taking into account it’s sparsley tabled layout — much more suitable for that of a bustling bar. The place is quite large but makes very little use of its spacious environs and the inside is a real hodge podge job that in the right hands could be put to much better effect. Cheap place to linger reading a book till you meet your friends on a cold day, but not one for an all nighter.

The Gate Clock is part of the Weatherspoons group and as a result you kind of know what to expect before you even set foot in the place. Cheap food, cheap drinks and old men. There is no music which whilst is good for conversation, provides an odd atmosphere as it feels like there is something missing. The Gate Clock is decorated more like a trendy bar than a pub with lots of mood lighting and stainless steel. The long windows let you see outside but he view of the busy road is unlikely to stimulate you for long. Seating is rarely an issue and on busy nights they open the upstairs bar for a bit more room. There are two types of people that go to The Gate Clock; students from Greenwich University and old men. Many of the old men spend their entire day drinking here and as a result must be approached with caution. I have seen them kick off with bar staff and have been moaned at for sitting someones regular seat, even though that person was not in the pub at the time which led to a bemusing argument. Students on the other hand are quite well behaved but can get a little rowdy towards the latter stages of an evening. Patience is definitely required here. Summers are enjoyable as the venue has limited outdoor seating. The staff are friendly and I sympathise with them as they do their best in what must be a difficult place to work. Overall I would say that The Gate Clock is a good place to begin an evening with some food and cheap drinks but I would recommend moving onto one of Greenwich’s pubs which has a little more character if you want to make the most of your night in town.

I’ll be honest now. I hate Wetherspoons. Hate them. but this one, gets three points for often having nice staff and being where my Uni days were spent. Every single monday, was wetherspoons day. It didn’t matter what time you went there, you’d know someone. There would be gaggles of students all over the place until we’d all start amassing together, often taking up four or five tables. Sounds horrid doens’t it? It wasn’t, I made some of my best friends in the world at that table. I ended up living in china because of the people at those tables. I loved Mondays in Wetherspoons. But now, without them, well it’s just a shit pub that you don’t want to go to. I’m a firm believer that you can have a great time if you’re with great people, no matter where you are. This is why this branch gets three stars. That, plus the toilets were always clean.

a massive pub both upstairs and down — with bars on both levels. always the usual wetherspoons deals on and the food is about average — nothing to complain about, decent food at a decent price in what has come to be a quite expensive area. i personally wouldnt recommend this for families, it has a very ‘pub’ feel to it. although the smoking ban is obviously in force, i always feel its smoky — probably the bad lighting and general atmosphere. nothing to complain about really, your general run of the mill wetherspoon. when in greenwich this is where i usually go as the drinks are cheap!

the gate clock is bigger than you’re average ‘spoons pub– it is more directed towards the tourist rade. i went there for a beer festival and they had plenty of beers and ales to offer. the problem seems to be crowding. wetherspoons are known for cramming as many people as they can, but this place takes the biscuit– they close the upstairsduring the evening. bad idea. having said all that its a nice pub with good friendly staff who know the beers, and that does make nice change! good food as well(think usual wetherspoons type grub)

a very generic wetherspoons. food is average too poor but cheap so if you just want a quick dinner it’s ok. opposite up the creek so if your doing comedy it’s ok for a pint.
