My dad and I stopped in for dinner before a 7:30 showing of Wicked at the Apollo Victorian theatre a short five-minute walk away. Seating was hard to come by, but we managed to secure a small table by the entrance. Overall it’s a very loud, social pub. It seemed like everyone here was in a festive mood as it was just before Christmas. My dad and I both ordered the fish and chips and Heinekens. The menu/drinks seemed limited and quite expensive, but I guess that’s mostly because of the area? The fish was good, the chips were ok. The portions were huge, and the food came out really fast. Overall a pretty average pub. Not terribly intimate or special, and the name is the best thing going for it. Look elsewhere if you’re looking for a location with more ambience.

Visited this place with a coworker and two prospective clients who happen to have been in the area for a conference. We stayed for a couple pints and I’m glad that was all. Although two people in our party ordered food which looked good and they seem to enjoy it, there was a gross problem of larger than normal fruit flies hovering about our beer glasses. One might call them gnats but I’d argue they were either smallish gnats or extra large fruit flies. Either way, not a place for winged insects to hang around. although the company I kept was friendly and engaging, I had an equal amount of fun trying to squash our winged party crashers.

The charm of this somewhat generic pub felt as elusive to me as the camel in question. There’s nothing overtly wrong with it, per se, but The Elusive Camel just didn’t «do it» for me. I think maybe the part that was least appealing to me was the seating: The wood chairs were all super-wobbly, which is fine if you weigh 80 pounds, but if you are a more substantial individual, you will feel nervous about that wobbliness! So I switched out to one of the padded stools… but they were still meant for a more miniscule posterior than the one I possess, so I was constantly uncomfortable as I sat. I definitely would’ve preferred to sit along the banquette that lined the wall closest to the windows. I was also terribly underwhelmed by the Fish’n’Chips. The fish itself tasted fresh and was a hefty portion, but was extraordinarily bland. I don’t care for vinegar, but I DO love a good tartar sauce… sadly, this was not it. It was more of a goo, probably a heavily-processed generi-brand from a squeeze bottle. I was saddened that it wasn’t the lovely chunky and flavorful tartar sauce that I love with a good fried fish! The peas were undoctored, just plunked down randomly underneath the fish. They were not the traditional«mushy» peas(perhaps this was for the best? Americans don’t «get» the concept of «mushy» peas, which sound more like a punishment than a reasonable vegetable option!), but just plain ol’ whole peas, rolling around the plate! Needless to say, I pushed them to the side and ignored them. The chips were okay, nothing special, definitely needed some good tartar sauce into which to dip them! My partner’s food was edible, but not special, either. This restaurant is NOTWHEELCHAIR-ACCESSIBLE. The entrance is too narrow, and it would be very difficult to get around once inside. All in all, the Elusive Camel is fine if you’re just looking for a pint and some conversation with a friend(and have a voice that projects, because it’s LOUD in here!). Would I go back here? Nah, not unless someone invited me and had his or her heart set on this place. I’m thinking it’s just not my cup of tea, so to speak.

I quite liked ‘The Elusive Camel’ as it was a little intimate bar around the corner from Victoria station. I had seen it a few times on my walk around Victoria but never had the chance to go in. After a stressful week and also watching the amazing«Wicked», I decided to give it a try. It was warm and the lights were dim as I walked in, brown leather sofas to the side and short stools to accompany the comfortable furniture. As I was only there for a drink, I cannot comment on the food. I had the Long Island ice tea which was just as strong as I like my drinks(this is to say, strong but not too strong please). I work and socialise in London so their prices looked normal although I do love a bargain. I enjoyed the ambiance-young matures adults who wanted some catch up time with friends. Unfortunately, I only had time for one drink but didn’t want to leave. The sofa was way too comfortable and I felt hidden like nobody could find me. Only complaint: the Long Island ice tea was not long enough.

Waren gestern Abend eher zufällig im Laden. Was soll ich lange schreiben? Mir hat der Laden total gefallen die Preise sind OK(bin normalerweise Münchner Preise gewöhnt) und auch das Publikum(geht von Studenten bis Business) hat mir gefallen. Bestimmt keine In-Kneipe aber zu empfehlen!
