We came, we saw, we breakfasted. Staying in Blackfriars Premier Inn, it looked like all we could see nearby as we cast about for a likely breakfast spot the night before was about a hundred and three branches of EAT., which we were so not down with. And so, naturally, I turned to Unilocal.Oh, thank you, Unilocal London. The two staff on duty were, I think, still half asleep. We entered this little hidden gem, tucked away half a minute from St Paul’s, surprised to find plenty of seating space, and chose our breakfasts off the board: porridge for my friend, scrambled eggs on toast for me; there was the option, according to the board, to add bacon or salmon to one’s eggs, so I asked for bacon. My confidence lessened when I heard the chap whisper to the less«we don’t even do bacon on scrambled do we?» While standing RIGHTUNDERTHESIGN, DUDE. Porridge, scrambled eggs with bacon, a cronut to share, a tea and a chai latte seemed pretty cheap at £9.95, till they realised five minutes later they’d forgotten to charge for the porridge and chai latte! You’d think all this would count against them, but they were so very nice about it that it just kind of made the experience more homely. Added to which, those breakfasts were magnificent. My eggs were perfect, and, rather than being mixed with shreds of bacon as I’d envisaged, lay atop a giant granary bloomer slice and peeked out from under two perfectly-fried rashers of bacon which covered them like a tasty, tasty pig blanket. My friend’s porridge was equally superb: milky yet good consistency, and topped with chopped nuts, dried fruits and more cinnamon than you can shake a cinnamon-shaker at. She was on a roll with the cinnamon, too, as her chai latte was«the best I’ve ever had». Coming from her — she who is a renowned tea connoisseur — this was quite something. The style put in my mind somewhat of my beloved Word of Mouth in Edinburgh, but with a little cool London edge. I’m not sure what the bajillion mirrors were about, or the apparent lighting department over the jams, but I liked them. Oh, yes, the cronuts. We also managed to share a cronut(raspberries and jam). It was extremely nice. Not the most comprehensive review, there, but what can you say? It was an extremely nice cronut with raspberries and jam. If you can’t imagine that, go to the Creed Lane Kitchen and have one for yourself. Heck, go there anyway.

We were looking for lunch and stumbled upon this little gem. They advertise on their window they serve home made food so we couldn’t go wrong eating here, I suppose? We had the tomato with Mediterranean veg soup, smoked salmon cream cheese sandwich, sausage roll, iced coffee, hot chocolate and chocolate cake. We were satisfied with everything we had. Service was good overall. The food on display looked so scrumptious and for a quick bite, one would be quite happy coming here for just a coffee or a full lunch.

A small but worthy breakfast and lunch spot, tucked away in Creed Lane, which lends a quieter respite from the nearby bustle. We loved the salads and veggies, and the Scotch Egg was a welcome treat. Prices are remarkably moderate, especially given the quality of food and cheerfulness of service. Seating is limited, which might be an issue at typical rush times, but we had little trouble finding a small table at 1PM. An excellent option if visiting the nearby St Paul’s Cathedral.

Five of us had lunch here. It’s convenient to St. Paul’s but slightly off expensive Ludgate Hill, so prices are reasonable. Friendly staff, yummy food(creamy porridge, sweet potato salad, cous cous salad, chicken pie, sausage roll; although the wife says her meat lasagna wasn’t up to snuff), and fresh smoothies. Alas, no air conditioning for the heat wave.

Creed Lane Kitchen is pretty new, although if you had told me before that it’s been open nearly three months, I would have been shocked. I noticed it the other day when I was getting lunch at Chao Now, right down the street. But since I am not a big fan of sandwiches for lunch, I decided to drop by for breakfast and check out their menu. They have your usual assortment of bacon and sausage baps, porridge, croissants, and the like. Of particular note is their selection of jams and Nutella on a long table in the middle of the shop, which you can spread yourself if you get toast. I went for scrambled eggs on toast with a side of salmon, which was £4.95. I saw them actually make the scrambled eggs from scratch, with real eggs, hearing them beat it, and it’s made right in front of you on what looks like it’s a panini press. Very interesting, and a definite upgrade from what you get at Pod. I am still forever wary that my breakfast eggs come from a carton, or worse, from powder. The downside is that they stored it in a tiny takeaway box that is no more than 4×3 inches, and so the eggs and salmon were piled on the toast with no room to use a knife, and the toast ended up being very soggy. I could see this being much more enjoyable as eat-in, but overall not a bad start. I might pop in again to try something else from their menu.

So Hazel has finally moved out the wharf to be with me– okay, for a new job so we decided to celebrate being lunch buddies again, by going to er… lunch. Creed lane kitchen is located in, yup you guessed it, creed lane, hidden away in the backstreets of the city. It’s more takeaway than eat in because there were hardly any seats but we got a table so it’s all good. They serve lots of hot food, we opted for a veggie lasagna and it was creamy, hearty and so bad but so good for that 2pm slump. But a chai and a main cost around £7 which is average but pricy still for me for lunch. Will definitely be back for a takeaway when i’m feeling rich.(notice i said feeling and not actually…)

Oh, oh, oh! First to review, this, like, almost never happens! And I can´t believe this place hasn´t been reviewed yet. It´s fantastic! Tucked away on Creed Lane is Creed Lane Kitchen, a wonderful place. Again, run by Italians with hearty, fresh food and good quality coffee and hot drinks. The portions are generous and ridiculously affordable. They offer a range of pastas, quiche, salads etc… And, like Carter Lane Coffee around the corner, the offer a choice of hot chocolates — a choice?! Here you have more to choose from though. In addition to milk and dark chocolate you can also choose hazelnut… and why wouldn´t you want a Hazel-nut?! Yinnie and I both had the veg lasagne. It was delicious and hearty. The only peev about the place is the seating, it´s a little on the sparse side. But the place is more geared up for take away then sit-downs. The staff are friendly, charming and very helpful. Service is swift, perfect for a working lunch!
