For £10 you can’t go wrong with this place. 3 of us went here last minute, but there were only 2 spaces left. The organiser was kind great and find us an extra seat. On top of that, the line up was hilarious!

As far as pubs go, The Comedy Pub is a standard English pub which means a bare bones liquor, beer, and wine selection. The standards exist: Russian Standard vodka, Carlsberg, Fosters, Corona, Heineken but not much else. I would never choose to pop into The Comedy Pub had I not been there for a comedy show. The comedy show was held in the basement, which surprisingly had a full length bar to handle the comedy crowd. The problem with the bar was actually getting from our seats to the bar. The seats consist of plastic folding chairs which are incredibly uncomfortable and located far too close together. Seating was assigned via an A4 sheet of paper laid upon a chair — the host kindly told us that our reserved seats were in row 5 and to «just go look for our name». The process works well as the venue is so small. Food was available for purchase, everything from packets of crisps to full-blown meals which actually looked acceptable to eat. The comedy show, unfortunately was an incredible letdown. We booked tickets specifically to see Romesh Ranganathan and he cancelled his appearance. No notification was made to ticket purchases and we were only made aware as we double-checked the line-up prior to heading out for the evening. This is the second time we have booked a show to see Romesh Ranganthan only to have him flake-out. Included in the fine print is a disclaimer stating that The Comedy Pub reserves no responsibility for changes in the line-up. At £7.50/ticket, we decided to go anyway and concluded that had one of the two comedians not been present, the show would have been worth the £7.50 price. That’s right, less is more in this case! Not sure I would buy tickets in advance for a show at this pub again given they can’t guarantee the line is what they say it will be, which, as you can imagine, is a huge problem. That’s like booking a hotel room with two double beds and checking into the hotel only to find one single bed in the room and the hotel saying, «We aren’t held responsible for the whereabouts of hotel room beds.»

Naaah, one star off immediately because when asked what kind of beer Doom and The Rev James are(see photo) the bartender replied(listen to this): I DON’T KNOW. They have 4.5, 4.2 etc %… I don’t know??? Then find out from someone who knows! It must have been her first day at work, she had me pay as much for a half pint as for a pint. This place might be good on special nights, but misses out on that cozy pubby feeling because it is four storeys tall. Too big when it is as empty as when we were here on a Sunday night at 22.00 hrs. It is perfectly located for a beer before or after a show.

I have been going to The Comedy Pub since my first visit as a tourist to London ages ago and I still like to go there every now and then to recall the good memories. The Comedy Pub is massive. It has four floors: the ground floor where you can find the bar and some tables, usually is packed with tourists and people waiting for the theatre in front of the pub. First and second floor are not always open but they also have bars and they are good size dining rooms with big TVs(usually football on them). And the basement, where Thursdays there is karaōke(my favourite night!) and also the comedy club. The decoration is nice, mainly pictures of famous comedians in the walls and the eternal carpet on the floor(a constant in every pub, I think!) The food here is pub’s food. You can find the traditional fish & chips, sausages and mash, steak and ale pie and some other pub’s favourites. The price is average, not the cheapest, but being that close to Leicester Square is quite affordable. And you can find the 2×1 on desserts almost always! They also have a good selection of beers and ciders as well as strong alcohols. Staff is friendly and helpful and normally speak more than one language, supposedly because of the tourists?

This massive, multi-level pub is a solid stop before heading to the theatre across the street for a show. Staff wasn’t very friendly when we ordered. It doesn’t seem like it should be anti-tourist but they weren’t happy to see us. The desserts were really delicious. We wanted something sweet to end our dinner from a few blocks down and they definitely delivered. They were running a three for £9 special and our desserts were delicious. Try the bread pudding!

Monopoly Pub Crawl — Stop #21 — Coventry Street(Yellow) We pushed through the square and across the road to our Coventry Street location — the Comedy. The cool thing about this pub(other than the name) is that they have a comedy club upstairs with regular shows. So you can grab a pint then proceed to spray it all over the person in front of you when a well-timed joke triggers a spit-take. The other cool thing is that they have some interesting beers on offer(Brain beer anyone?) which makes a good change from the usual ales and lagers provided by your friendly neighborhood ‘Spoons. As far as décor and atmosphere, I found it to be warm and welcoming. Given its location slightly off the beaten track, it manages to avoid being a tourist hotspot and is a great place to chill after the craziness of Piccadilly and Leicester Square. It’s worth keeping this place in mind and I’ll have to try the comedy club at some point. And, of course, they are crawler friendly!

I’ve been going to the Comedy Pub for years now, but wanted to right a review because they’ve just started stocking Brains beer on tap. The place is huge: * A downstairs bar that doubles as their venue for various comedy/karoke nights. * The groundfloor bar * First floor bar * Second floor seating and meeting area Overall, the décor is reasonable modern, the music not too loud, and should you want it, they usually have the football placing on various screens when it’s on. The reason this place deserves a review is as I’ve said for the Brains beer. They stock SA Gold which is a local Cardiff brew, and I’ve yet to find another place in London that does this stuff, so this has now become my favourite pub in London, although it’s not local :( BTW, Unilocal has the location wrong. It’s actually another 80m up the incline in the middle of the street.
