As a vegan, I had really high hopes for this place, and they haven’t let me down. I also happen to like a good, old-fashioned pub, so Coach & Horses ticks major boxes for me, as a fully vegan and vegetarian pub. Their drink selection is great, with a decent variety given the space they have to work with. Having visited a few times now, Frontier on tap and Old Rosie’s cider are big winners. I love the Tofush and Chips, and the panna cotta for dessert. As an Aussie, I take chips very seriously, and theirs are lovely, fat steak fries with the right amount of crispness. Yum. The staff can be a little hit and miss, but if you’re lucky, you might meet the lovely and personable Kara, who is happy to make some recommendations as to the food and drink. Prices are a little higher than some of the other pubs in the neighbourhood, but there’s plenty of history(which is displayed amply on their walls) and a cosy, relaxed vibe.

I was happy to find an all-vegetarian pub in London, but sadly the food was quite bland or, in some cases, odd. I ordered the beetroot ravioli per the Unilocal recommendations; however, I did not realize the beets were served raw. It was hard to cut through the beets and at some point I gave up and left the dish behind. The beets should have been cooked at least slightly, in my opinion. Second, I ordered the tofush fingers… bland…I dumped a truckload of salt on them and they still weren’t good. As you can infer, I would not return, nor recommend this place to a friend.

After a trip to the secret tearoom earlier, I knew I really wanted to try this vegetarian pub. Came here on a summer weekday for lunch around one in the afternoon. The food was absolutely delicious. This pub is a reminder that vegetarian food can be wonderful. A great restaurant for vegetarians(or people who like vegetarian food) in London.

I love this place for being the first and only vegetarian and vegan pub. My friend and I came for dinner and were confused at first because we could only see people drinking pints. We asked at the bar and were led through the bar and up the stairs into a lovely old-fashioned dining room. Although my friend was a meat-eater, she approved of the food aswell.

We had a delicious lunch here! Our daughters, 6&10, had the veggie burger and vegan fish and chips. I had the pie and my husband the veggie burger — ALL amazing! My favorite meal in London! Great service from Nicolas too!

The food is so good. I’ve been twice and the vegan fish and chips was ace! Good staff. Waiting time is good. Nice ambiance. Overall a great place.

Coming from Antwerp, and finding A REALPUB with a real vegan/vegetarian menu! We tried the tofush and the mushroom pie, that why we call comfort food! So rich, a plate is almost enough for 2! The whole menu sounds really yummy!

Being a vegan in London has proved a bit more tricky than expected but I’m SO glad I found Coach & Horses. The vegan tofish, chips, and peas were absolutely delicious! A standard pub vibe downstairs but it has the cutest tea shoppe hidden away upstairs. Wish they had license to carry more than canned beer and wine upstairs because no draft drinks are permitted upstairs but this is a minor issue. Overall it was a great experience and I will definitely be back again!

I came here with an old uni buddy to catch up. His gangly male presence was definitely out of place in the upstairs here — which was girly and cute in a traditional teashop kinda way. I ended up just ordering the beetroot ravioli starter which I hadn’t realised was raw(as in the raw-food movement, not as in uncooked flour ;) But so tasty! Too tiny a portion but very pleased to eat something so delicate and fresh. Would totally return but my advice is to sit upstairs, as I don’t really like old-man type pubs!

You’d never know this was a vegan-vegetarian pub. It seems just like a regular old hearty pub. Tofuish & chips was as amazing as everyone says, and then we were also surprised by a just-as-amazing cashew cheese ravioli dish. Great drinks, food, atmosphere, location.

Hearty organic vegetarian and vegan food in the middle of Central London in an old traditional pub? Just amazing. Went for a Sunday lunch, and as all respectable pubs Coach and Horses proposes the Sunday Roast, revisited(basically stuffed vegetables with more vegetables on the side). But you can count on classic pub hit dishes, as the Tofush and Chips, or The Burger — «a pure giant falafel» quoting my friend. I did not get the chance to go down till dessert as we got surprised by a poorly service trained staff which made our stay shorter than wished(for me). Food aside, the venue’s design is kept simple and rustic, with apparently a popular Tea Room reachable crossing the bar climbing up the stairs. Bad luck for those who did not book a table. I would recommend to visit the place with the excuse of taking an excursion in London’s only vegetarian pub.

Im thinking — vegetarian vegan pub right in the heart of the touristy part of Soho. Im thinking — this has to be a gimmick. Im thinking — why am I eating here when there is world changing Chinese food just a few doors away? Well in fact Coach and Horses is the real deal and is an absolutely superior pub. Terrific line of beers on draught. Respectable cider choices. Gins a little weak — but the beers make up for that. Great pub ambience.(Old genteel/decrepit wooden house with a ton of character. — Entrance to the dining room via the dish-washery.) The vegetarian menu is small non-orgasmic but quite reliable. Sunday Roast is a selection of various stuffed vegetables. (Ok — cooks — how many vegetables usually get stuffed? Well the usual candidates all appear here.) The regular menu is a couple of salads, a couple of pub-food-converted-to-vegetarian clones(veggie hamburger/veggie fish and chips etc.) There are some pasta options. You are not looking at a world of choices but what they make is good honest food. The veggie burger is mammoth, filling and uses the standard cheats that all sorts of people use to make a pub sandwich of average ingredients turn into a legitimately decent eat. (Add six hundred garnishes, condiments and vegetables to hide the plain-jane burger or sandwich filling in a world of flavor.) Frankly, the trick works — and the burger is pretty good. An appetizer of ravioli in two kinds of pasta was entertaining enough. Home-made catsup for the fries is good, honest, home-made, and Heinz has no reason to worry that it will be put out of business by micro-catsup-making. The stuff in the bottle is frankly better, but this is an ok change of pace. We did not try their desserts — but they looked decent — and suitably decadent. (How many vegetarian places try to force something inedible and wholesome flavored exclusively with honey or agave. .. that makes you wish you had eaten more cabbage instead?) The Coach and Horses in contrast offer real desserts. The staff is nice and helpful. Frankly, I like this place better as a drinking place than an eating place — but the eating is entirely decent. And as a place to drink this is way way better than getting a glass of wine at Planet Organic.

This was awesome. It’s upstairs away from the main pub down below, set up like a tea room. I had the tofush and chips(it was flipping AWESOME), and we had the starter of beetroot ravioli with cashew cheese(also amazing). The tofu burger was great, and super filling. I think they could do with adding one or two more vegan mains, but apart from that, perfect. Definitely want to return ASAP.

I had heard mixed reviews about this place, but mostly the only words reaching my ears were«VEGANFISH&CHIPS» and«PUB». So naturally I was sold. A classic British Pub super centrally located, Coach & Horses also offers a surprising vegan menu. The day I was there, they had the classic vegan fish & chips(THANKGAWD), and they also offered a few specials like a raw beetroot ravioli stuffed with cashew cheese and served with an arugula side salad(Delicious, and that comes from someone who doesn’t dig beets)(get it?), and a raw green curry. My friend ordered the green curry, not noticing it was labeled raw. We were confused at first as to why it was cold before she recalled reading the word ‘Raw’. It was a bit surprising, though very well executed – a parsnip salad instead of rice, and the flavor was really very good. As she said, maybe better as an appetizer, but overall great presentation. My Fish & Chips were very fun. The ‘fish’ was an ale-battered deep fried tofu wedge coated in nori(seaweed, for that salty ocean flavor), the chips were run of the mill chips, and the tarter sauce was avocado-based. I was hoping for mushy peas because I hadn’t had the opportunity to try them yet, but I was thankful for just getting a little bit of veg on my plate. I’d definitely recommend stopping by if you’re in London; ale and traditional British Pub food with a vegan twist is actually very hard to come by, and I’m stoked they’re here.

A local pub for local people. This place has a bit of a history in the area apparently it used to be considered a badge of honour to be kicked out or barred by the now retired landlord. It has an oak panelled interior that has been desecrated by a stainless steel dumb waiter some time in the ‘70s an old upright piano and the air of a pub that was a proper boozer when this part of town was not yet fashionable. They have a sprinkling of good beers and a vast range of flavoured pickled eggs. Curiouser and curiouser I thought. It is obviously a lot better than the Spice of Life a few metres away and a place you should include on any drinking tour of Soho.

I’ll give it props for catering to vegans and making traditional meat dishes(fish and chips) vegan-style. Kinda cool. Sadly, the dishes on the website were not all available when we got to the restaurant so some people in our party had arrived craving particular dishes and then were sadly disappointed when those options weren’t on the menu any longer. I had a tandoori tofu that was okay. It is hard to flavor tofu well and this was well spiced and flavored but just too much — imagine a tandoori flavor on a large block of tofu from the market. I appreciated the attempt, but it wasn’t amazing. The place smelled of truffle oil, which some people love, but I find it too earthy and not the smell I want to have around me while I eat! Server was very nice, but the dishes all came out haphazardly and my husband’s dinner actually wouldn’t have arrived at all had we not asked about it(oopsie)! Tea was done well(at least by my American standards). Extra quaint points given for the mouse running around during dinner. I kid you not. He was so brave he got about 2 feet from my dining companions outstretched hand. I name him«St. John Who Lives in the Walls.» I think St. John made out better than we did with his dinner. All those chips on the floor make for a happy mouse. The downstairs pub seemed a lot more fun than the upstairs dining area. Came down to someone playing the piano with everyone singing along to classic songs. Very fun, wish we could have stayed for that.

A proper place to stand outside and enjoy a pint as people go by. Doubly-so around 5pm on a weekday when everyone is just getting off work and there’s plenty of goings-on. You don’t see many pubs with stand-up tables outside, so it’s really great they keep theirs in decent shape. I don’t know why, but standing outside, beer in hand, seems much more uncomfortable than standing outside, arm resting on table with beer adjacent.

Just to add, that it was made famous by mysoginist, Jeff Bernard, in the 60’s &70’s in the Spectator & his mock rows with the landlord, Norman Balon(his old mate) Were Jeff still alive he would not have put up with either the marvellous live music they have now, or the Wi Fi users, who would have been roundly abused for their trouble. Jeff practically lived in here, locked in at night. (made famous in the stage show Jeffery Bernard Is Unwell)
