Great fish and chips. Great ale. Great service. Great Britain! Our last day in town, this place gave us a good memory to take away of both SoHo and that classic London pub cozy corner.

We happened to be cutting through some back streets near Piccadilly back in September and came across this little gem. It’s a small pub full of character and charm. The owner was there working busily as the after work crowd made there way in. I had the bangers and mash, my companion had a sandwich. I was pleasantly surprised by how good our food was as pub fair usually isn’t the best. If I ever make my way back across the pond again, I’d make it a point to visit.

If we could, we would like to give this one NO stars. Oh my gosh, what an awful experience. We arrived at 1:30pm on a Sunday afternoon and by 3pm we still did not have our food. Then my husband’s food came out but mine and the two kids were still waiting. We ended up asking for our money back at 3:15pm and left having not been served. They have you order and pay at the bar before you are served, so you are pretty much out of luck unless you make a big deal and ask for your money back. Also, bathrooms are gross. As we were leaving, a bunch of others who had been waiting as well, asked for their money back.

Visited here with some friends for a midweek evening drink and some card games. We sat toward the back, near the open door. Sadly, this meant that the smoke cigarette and cigar smokers who were seated *right* outside the door wafted in throughout the night. That was less than fun. Thankfully it was only temporary here and there. The service was slooooow. Kind and pleasant. But insanely slow. The place was calm and sparsely populated and when, at 9pm, I went to order a round of drinks, there ended up being a line of 4 people behind me because it took the bartender nearly 5 minutes to open 2 ciders and pour a lemonade. Generally, I would give a place like this 3 stars. Fair-to-middling, good enough to try again with hope. BUT the food… oh, the food. Taylor Walker food is generally tasty. The chips were good, but something just seemed weird with the rest(we had the deal of 2 sharing platters featuring fish, chips, mini pies, sausages, scampi, and yorkshires). And I had the chocolate cake with custard. The food made us all give an audible«meh» and after I had the cake I went from an excited«woot! chocolate cake with custard!» to «urgh. that isn’t sitting well.» Clearly something about it wasn’t right. I was up a few times in the night and vomited. A lot. The fiancé fared a bit better but didn’t feel well. It didn’t seem as bad as full on food poisoning(I’ve had that) but something in the kitchen was definitely not right. I’d go back. But I might stick to drinks and crisps.

A pretty average pub with terrible terrible service, a classic case of a great location meaning it will always be busy so the staff don’t need to bother serving people quickly or well

No! No! No! Horrid place. Really horrid. It’s amazing how much a chain of pubs can change from one to the next. Now, granted we were meant to be going to The Ritz so this was a bit of step down, but we were greeted to a grimy half-empty bar, a grumpy barman who didn’t say more than he needed to, and some scary looking punters. The ale my friend had was vile(it looked like flat coke and tasted of burnt coffee) and we drank up and left. Quickly. I won’t be back. Maybe next time my friend won’t try and get into the Ritz bar in jeans.

Very traditional looking pub — inside and out! — all it needed was sawdust on the floor and a Fagin or Nell Gwyn character sloping about and would have made my day! I loved it! We could use this place for our themed evening events for tourists coming into London no problem. The place had everything. Uncomfortable tatty seats; slot machines, polished wooden floors(nice clean ones), dark corners, little stools around the tables. Food was very good though, not at all badly priced, nothing exotic and definitely not«fancy schmancy» the beef sandwich special for the day was really nice. Toilets were modern and clean and the upstairs area good for private parties. Staff were very cheerful and quick to serve and this is a real example of not judging a book by its cover.

It’s a bit dingy insode and the folk who hang here are a bit scary in the later evening but the staff are friendly and always bright and cheery when I’ve been in. The outside opens on to an interesting area, the inside has usually been mostly clean and the velvet seats were typically pub-ish. It’s a bit dark inside but still a nice pub for a drink after worrk or the early evening.

Dubious looking, with one of those brown-tiled exteriors that remind me of a Victorian WC and whisper of old men inside choking to death on a pint of bitter. The interior, too, is heroically down-at-heel, a Spartan arrangement consisting of various shades of brown decoration, some brown wood tables and some red seats slowly turning brown. Orange-shaded lights cast garish shadows over a world that has clearly forgotten that it is no longer 1973.

Upstairs is better for eating a meal as it is more spacious, the atmosphere is buzzing and lively. The choice of menu is excellent, my fav is fish and chips and mushy peas, a must have.

Local pub in St James’s that is full on Friday after work I stopped going as the lager was not very cold and they always charged funny amounts for the drinks. For example, a pint of beer might be £2.83 and a jd and coke 3.63!!! Please explain what that is all about!!! I think I have worked out the reason(please correct me if Im wrong)… Perhaps the funny prices were an attempt my the management to shop the staff stealing money? The food in the blue post is rather delicious. There are a number of traditional dishes — fish and chips, pie and mash, sausage; however, there are also daily specials and dishes from around the world to tickle your taste buds — such as thai curry

Decent boozer. Good selection of drinks, and it has a good location just of the beaten track of a pretty busy area. If the sun is out, it is always a good hang out early evening. Food looks pretty standard, but then again who is complaining.

A pub with character. Old fashioned. Don’t know what the prices were — I didn’t pay.
