The food is just ok… But I have been to this places many time. Only because the service is fantastic!

I was looking for authentic and inexpensive sushi so I decided to give this place a try. I went to this restaurant around Saturday noon and the restaurant was not packed so I was seated down quickly. As soon as I was seated down, I was served with a cup of green tea. The service was very quick and efficient. I ordered the sushi and sashimi set. I was happy with my meal as the fish used were very fresh and sushi tasted better than the average sushi you would get in London. However, I find that there were too much rice in my sushi rolls, and my sushi rolls were kind of oddly shaped — very amateurish job done there. I think they also did not use proper sushi rice for the rolls, the rice used were not sticky at all and the rolls fell apart quickly. Except for that I think that for the price of £20, I have got a pretty delicious and filling meal, and I leave the restaurant happy, ready to enjoy the rest of my day!

We were looking for a dinner place for a group of 6 people on a Friday night. Without needing to wait at all, we were promptly seated at Ten Ten Tei within 5 minutes of entering the restaurant. If the upstairs is full, no need to worry — they’ve plenty of tables downstairs too. The menu is fairly extensive and you can find what you’d typically expect — from ramen to sushi rolls; they’ve got you covered. Also, the price is decent too which is surprising due to it’s location in Soho. So you can go here for an average meal for relatively cheap if you’re in the area. The food came quickly. The wait staff were extremely friendly and chatty to us. 5 stars for being swift in everything they did — from getting us seated, to taking orders, serving food and even giving us the bill!

So it was Saturday night and I expected a bit of a wait,(this place is pretty small), what didn’t expect was getting to the top of the line and having 5(FIVE!!) parties of 2 and 3 seated before me! Ok I get it I was a single party and if you seat one or even two groups b4 me but 5!?! And manager didn’t even apologise or look at me! Finally after I got after him he seated me next, wonder how long I would have been left there. Menu is a huge disaster, way too big, sushi bar is tiny, understaffed and unimpressive. Food was definitely AVERAGE! Big let down based on reviews.

I felt as if I was in Japanese ‘Izakaya(Japanese Pub)’. I feel comfortable with this Izakaya style. I guess I could say Izakaya is the second home for the most of Japanese salaried workers! I took Nasu-Dengaku, Boiled Mackerel with Miso and of course, Sushi and Miso Soup. I very much enjoyed miso dishes and was a bit drunk with 3 bottles of Asahi beer.

Excellent food and service, sushi was very good. Quiet environment. They have Happy Mondays with 15% off from 17:30. We’ve been here twice and will visit again, I’m sure.

As with my fellow reviewers, I must stress, do not judge this place in first appearances! The décor is incredibly dated, and for soho, the atmosphere might be slightly lacking. But what this place lacks in style they make up for in delicious, fresh and affordable sushi! My girlfriends and I tried a few starters, my favourite being the aubergine which was roasted and topped with a delightful sweet and tangy sauce. The mixed tempura was also fantastic, giant prawns cooked to perfection with a light and crispy batter. On to the sushi– the rolls are quite traditional, so you won’t find anything fancy or filled with mayo, or fried. We ordered eel nigiri, tuna and salmon rolls, sashimi and a few hand rolls. The fish was beyond fresh! The service is a bit spotty and, shall we say, aloof, but for a pretty filling, deliciously fresh sushi dinner for 3 including drinks at around £30 each? I think I’ve finally found reasonably priced sushi in London that doesn’t disappoint!

Love this place. This is still one of my favourite Japanese restaurant at all times, especially if you’re after decent, fresh sashimi. Food is very authentic as are the staff. I particular love their dinner set options where there is no way you would leave hungry. Each set dinner comes with a few small dishes of starters, a generous main, finishing off with a scoop of delicious creamy ice cream. Their teriyaki chicken and tempura is to die for. Their tofu starter in soy literally melts in your mouth. Great value for money. There’s also a variety of Japanese beers to choose from too. Definitely a five start establishment.

I really want to give Ten Ten Tei a higher review but just can’t bring myself to do it. The attitude and the service in the place was nearly appalling at times. I can say that they were usually fast to bring the food but the ordering process was a nightmare. on top of that even though we called ahead for our table of 10 they did not have it ready and made a stink about getting it ready. We did come in towards the end of the night and they were pushy about making sure we ordered everything we wanted to eat all at once including beers and sake. It might as well have been fast food that we got to eat there. As for the food it was good sushi and better than average. Some of the fish in particular were better than others but nothing stands out to me. California roll had such a ridiculous amount of rice. It was almost like eating a rice roll. The rice itself had good flavor but it wasn’t sticky so every piece you picked up fell apart instantly. I really wasn’t impressed with all of this and as I write this is making me want to knock it down another star. There certainly must be a lot better places in that area and certainly around London so I wouldn’t recommend this one.

I’d really recommend the Nigiri Standard sushi set. It was a really good mix of the different types of sushi on offer, and also quite filling. The fish was fresh and tasty. Overall, really enjoyable. The menu is really extensive and has a really good choice of sushi and hot dishes. Green tea and tap water are free. This is more like a café than a restaurant, there isn’t much ambiance but if you want good quality, cheap sushi then I’d definitely recommend coming here!

I was looking for a sushi restaurant in central London that was the right balance between inexpensive and tasty. After much searching on Unilocal,I finally decided on Ten Ten Tai. This place did not disappoint. The atmosphere is casual, but not trashy. They have a sushi bar and a few tables on the ground floor and another dining room in the basement. It was very tranquil and a nice canteen sort of atmosphere downstairs. I went there with my cousin and wife and they each ordered the nigiri standard set. It was a lovely board with a sampling of sashimi and sushi rolls. Just the right amount of food, though neither of them were a fan of the roll with just salmon roe on rice. I tried a couple of pieces of tuna sashimi(yum!) and a rice bowl with beef and braised or pickled onions on it. The beef was really nice but the amount of rice underneath was absurdly large. I had opted for the large beef bowl and would definitely switch to the regular sized one next time. It also came with miso soup and some shredded cabbage, which was nice. The service was very nice and attentive. Tap water and green tea are free, you just have to ask for them. Great central spot to get your sushi on.

This feels like being in Japan. This place is very straightforward indeed, there is not much to talk about except the great food. Sitting at the bar, you can watch the chef prepare the good quality sushi, it makes a lunchtime very relaxed. The set meals are various and all interesting and will make anyone who has ordered something else very jealous. Everything I had was really good, with the exception of the ramen which fine but not amazing. The prices are good. The service friendly.

I want to give it 3.5 stars but i’ll round up. If you want traditional sushi then this is your place. There’s no tricks or gimmicks here or any ambiance for that matter. The tempura was really good. The sushi was fresh the service was good. Its solid. I would totally come here again.

I was introduced to Ten Ten Tai back when I was still studying at university. My friend took me here and told me his favourite dish was the ten don(fried shimp with rice) and he was right, the shrimp is nice indeed. I usually go for unaju(eel with rice) whenever I go for Japanese and this is no different here. Sometimes me and my friends will also order sushi and this place will not disappoint. You should come here just to spot the funny spelling mistakes in their English menu! It will make you laugh. I think the most memorable thing about this place is how friendly it is. There is always the same manager greeting me whenever I come here with his polite Japanese style, either seating me upstairs or downstairs. Once when I was eating lunch here with my friend, the place was not too busy and the manager was having a quiet chat with a waitress and then they started playing jankenpon(rock paper scissors) right there and then! I was very amused and it was so endearing to watch, impromptu lunchtime entertainment 10⁄10! In summary: Good for a casual Japanese food fix at a moderate cost.

I was impressed by the udon, agedashi tofu, and bento box here. Delicious, cheap, and filling. The bento box came with more things than the bento box I had at Tokyo Diner and the udon was cooked perfectly. It’s also a bit less claustrophobic here than at TD even though there is less seating. Need to try the sushi and report back!

After wandering around trying to find a place for dinner, we came across Ten Ten Tei via Unilocal. It’s a small spot with 4 – 5 tables and a counter upstairs and then more tables downstairs. There was a missing item from the menu — spicy tuna roll — but they actually do serve it; there also may be other off-menu items that they serve. We were ravenously hungry and ordered a lot — spicy tuna roll, California roll, tuna roll, eel, miso ramen and gyoza. The sushi was very average — does the job but nothing to write home about. I wouldn’t recommend the ramen as it wasn’t very flavorful. One of the best things was the gyoza which is pretty easy to execute but nonetheless, tasty. Prices were moderate and servings were pretty big(rolls had 6 – 8 pieces).

Ok. If you are looking for a place to eat sushi nicely… Look further!!! The restaurant from outside looks as shabby as it is inside. The bathroom smells to fungus and there is dust everywhere. You have authentic Japanese personnel that are really friendly and willing to help. We decided to order sushi and got really disappointed. most of the fish didn’t really taste good, the shrimp actually tasted to chlorine! Te only fish that tasted good was the salmon(that saved the dinner). I don’t know how the other dishes taste, but sushi was a big no. I would not recommend sushi in is restaurant!

A simple Japanese house offering raw and cooked Japanese food. :-) I had the sushi and also a bowl of chirashi. The sushi was okay. However, I had expectations for the chirashi, since the server recommended it but I felt it was not the best thing I’ve ever had. The chirashi was visually presented good, and included a few slices of salmon(which was of nice quality), tuna, mackerel(which was not so nice), two raw shrimps, a cooked shrimp, a surf clam, some ginger and wasabi, topped with shredded dry long shreds of nori. It was served on top of COLD sushi rice. The cold, refrigerated sushi rice was a real turn off… hence, the three star rating for an item that they pride was very good at this location. Service was decent, no qualms about that! Don’t refrigerate your claim to fame! This place is A-OK. I’d come back here if my friends wanted to do so, but I would never order the chirashi here again.

Woot! I have meaning to try this place for a while; no less than 6 teachers of Japanese have recommended it to me, so I thought there was a good chance I would love it. I ended up going with my sister and her friend who — by complete coincidence — said Tententei is her favourite restaurant. I was happy to selflessly munch my way through the menu in the name of research for Unilocal! ***Before I start, I should admit that I really really wanted to try the ramen… but the other ladies wanted to order the smaller ‘à la carte’ dishes. I’m happy with anything, so I skipped the ramen this time but I’ll go back to try it at some point! Food We tried a mixed platter of sushi(nom), sashimi(fresh and delicious!), grilled mackerel(ohmygoodness this is good!), gyoza(not bad — my sister loooved it), Agedashi-dofu(fried tofu… nom nom nom) and tempura sweet potatoes(seriously yum!) The nasudengaku(aubergine covered in miso) was good, but I’ve had better in London. The only thing I was unimpressed with was the ‘aspara bacon’; which was too bacon-y(yes…I know! That hardly sounds possible!) They used fat English style salty bacon… so you couldn’t really get the asparagus flavour… it’d’ve be nicer with streaky bacon and fatter asparagus. Atmosphere The restaurant is a bit like a canteen… so not particularly posh, but I don’t mind that if there is yummy food to be found. The staff were really sweet, and the food came really quickly.(^^) We rolled away happy but hardly able to move! Yatta!

The restaurant is easy to find, there arent as many tourists as in other sushi restaurants in london. its a tiny restaurant, the owner are japanese. the food tastes great! i was very hungry because i walked 5 hours through london so i ordered a sushi menue which costs around 15 pounds — a soup with tofu and vegetables, 5 nigiri, 1 california roll and some makis. the sushi was big and tasty, i was very saturated after the meal. the quality of the food was great, it was like a party in my mouth. by the way, you get green tea for free!

Selten so gut gut japanisch in Europa gegessen.
