Tasty Lebanon lives up to its name. This is a corner takeaway that doesn’t try to be more than what it is, and is therefore more than you might expect. I know, you don’t precisely have visions of fresh herbs dancing in your head when you think of ‘corner takeaway that does kebab.’ You’re more likely to be thinking ‘greasy food after I’ve enjoyed some fresh herb,’ if most kebab shops’ patrons are anything to go by. That’s ok. But this place probably won’t hit that spot for you. This place is, instead, the rare gem of fast food done right. Everything is fresh, the staff are friendly, and you can even get fresh-pressed juice. Let’s break it down. We’ve had their Beiruty and regular hummus, tabbouleh, falafel wrap, and two versions of the mixed platter. Hummus? De. Li. Ci. Ous. Your momma’s hummus will always be better, I get that(and I want you to bring me some), but Tasty Lebanon make a solid, yummy hummus. Go for the Beiruty over the regular; it has more kick, in all the best ways. Tear off a piece of Lebanese flatbread(lighter than pita and more flexible) and go to town. The falafel? Crumbly, sprinkled with sesame seeds, light, beautiful. The wrap always contains a different combination of magical add-ons that you may not anticipate. My first one had some grilled aubergine(yum!) and the second had some olives(also yum!). If you have dietary restrictions, you may want to keep that in mind; personally, I see it as a pleasant variation. They do always sneak in some proper chilies, so expect to have one or two mouthfuls briefly light you on fire(put it out with hummus!) but that’s about it. The lamb kebab is, well, shaved meat off a meat cone, we’re all familiar with the drill, but it’s quite good quality, no gristle, and always nicely browned(not dried out; you know the type). In the platter options, you’ll get it either over chips(tasty) or rice(less tasty but still nice) with a bunch of veggies on the side, and phenomenal garlic sauce – not garlic mayo, but actual garlic sauce, made in-store. I want to swim in it. You will also want to swim in it. What really makes this place a solid choice for me is the tabbouleh. I’m pretty passionate about my parsley, ok? Blame it on my upbringing. Tasty Lebanon’s tabbouleh is the real deal: heavy on the parsley, easy on the bulgur, not too skimpy on tomatoes, and plenty of lemon juice, finished with a loving drizzle of olive oil. The most recent batch was somewhat salty; hey, it happens, and I’m forgiving when it’s clearly a one-off. If you’re so inclined, they also offer hookah and yes, they take cards.

I wish I could give this 2 and a half stars, because it’s perfectly average in my opinion. Nothing really outstanding about the shawarma that I had. Maybe it’s the fact that when I walked in I was craving the chicken over rice from the 53rd Street Halal Guys in NYC, and what I received couldn’t have been more different. After some thought, I think I’ll give it 3 stars. It shouldn’t suffer because of my past experiences in a different country. It’s perfectly passable and I wasn’t upset at what I received at all. Portion sizes are big and everyone was very friendly. Even got a pepper. But still. No white sauce? As if being an American in London wasn’t difficult enough…

Its about the same food in terms taste as you’d get at Yalla Yalla. I love the guys who work here. They’re friendly and very courteous as well. Interestingly they accept cards as well — which is a big plus for me since I never carry any cash on me. I had a chicken Shawarma and was well pleased. The fresh orange juice is also great if you have a cold in this cold weather.
