I have what many might classify as «Hair ADD» — I’m never satisfied with the color/length/shape of my hair, and feel the need to change it up every few months. So when I first moved to London, one of my first priorities was finding a suitable hair salon that had the certain appeal and charm that I was looking for(i.e. Hairdrezzers on Fire in SD — previously reviewed glowingly). I like my hairdressers with tattoos and weird haircuts. I like my salon to have interesting magazines to read and good music playing in the background. Sugar seemed to fit the bill. I happened upon it while walking down the road one day and was immediately struck by the fun colors and the vintage piano(which doubles as a check-in desk) in the window. Chandeliers hang from the ceiling, a floor-to-ceiling mural of a rockstar on stage adorns the wall opposite the coffee bar. Yes, coffee bar. I knew I’d found the place. I only went in to get my hair coloured, not cut.(side note: I put a «u» in colour… I should get extra points for that) All the staff were very friendly and attentive. I was in there for about 3 hours, while I was processed and re-processed, going from mostly blonde to completely dark. The reason they didn’t receive 5 stars? They styled my hair in a very«mother at a hair salon in the 90s» way. Who uses round brushes any more? Who uses MOUSSE? Other than that, I’m happy with Sugar and will try them again for a cut.
