Bref on passé !

On vacation we saw this place and stopped by. It was okay. Don’t plan on going back before we leave. The place was tiny, the service was all right, and the food was just okay.

I was surprised to find out this place was a chain, but I guess I shouldn’t be surprised because it seems everything in London is a chain. This place has delicious pasta dishes that are priced fairly reasonably(most ranging around 10 pounds). The place is busy as it sits in a prime location, but doesn’t have too long of a wait. I ate here a few days ago and unfortunately got sick after eating the Spaghetti Bolognese. I don’t want to even believe that it’s what got me sick, but I’m almost positive. It was the meat in it that got me I think. The spaghetti noodles themselves are thick which is delicious. It really soaks up the sauce and gives you more volume when devouring it. This place doesn’t give you bread for free with your meal. How is that possible? I’ve never been to an Italian restaurant(and I’ve been to hundreds) where after ordering a pasta dish the table wasn’t given bread. That’s a bare minimum for Italian places. So we ended up having to ask for it and were charged for the bread basket. The drink prices are alright, the cheapest beer is Peroni, about 3.25, but the mixed drinks are about a pound cheaper. They have a surprisingly good drink selection. I was annoyed at first when I found that they had a wifi network(«Spaghetti House») but that is was password protected. I asked the waitress about it and she told me the password, which for all you Unilocalers is «SPAGHOUSE1». Now everyone without data plans can check in here! I wish the network didn’t have a password or that the password was printed on the menu. Why be so secretive if you are willing to let customers use it? Either way, was happy it existed. Full paragraph about wifi, deal with it. Spaghetti House has delicious pasta, but a couple of downfalls. I’m hesitant to return after my stomach bug that followed the Spaghetti Bolognese I had a few days ago. Maybe get a meat-free dish!

This is the spaghetti house were the seige to place in the 70’s. There are lots of newspaper clippings here to read about the seige. I have been to 2 other spaghetti houses and have always had an enjoyable meal. This location is good as its very close to Hyde park and other shops. I had linguine alfredo. It was made with fresh egg pasta and was to die for. The sauce was lovely and garlicy. They always serve lovely marinated olives. At times they can be quite busy, so its not always easy to get a table as soon as you walk in. Things are made fresh to order, but as its fresh pasta, it is quick. I can’t say I’ve ever been able to leave in under half an hour. They are not a little out of the way italian restaurant though, more of a slightly less marketed version of Ask or pizza express. The original is in Googe Street. Each has its own décor and atmosphere.

If you’re looking for a restaurant, there are many criteria that will come to mind. There’s so much choice in London that if taste or even value for money are what you’re after, it’s not hard to find the right place. But if you find yourself pushed for time and need to find somewhere to order, eat, pay and leave within half an hour, this is the place. Before we sat down, we told them we were in a hurry and they did their best to meet our needs. When we said jump they asked how high? Ordinarily, being served within a couple of minutes of placing your order might make you curse the fact that the food can’t have been cooked to order and has probably been sitting there waiting. But sometimes, finding somewhere with that food standing by is a godsend. And in case you were wondering, the food was perfectly good and very reasonably priced for the West End, too.
