This place having only 3.5 stars and 7 reviews is really evidence for how little London uses Unilocal(I am a one-woman mission to add more data! Love Unilocal!) — Source Battersea is lovely! Met up with friends on Friday night at seven, it was just filling up, we had cocktails and a wonderfully long dinner with a few glasses of wine. I had the artichoke dip(A+) the Hake(A+) and the treacle tart(A++), hubs had one of the steaks, everything was super delicious. Cocktails on the way in were easy and tasty(happy hour goes until 8!) and we sat in the nice little atrium in the front and had the weather been better I would’ve loved to sit on the deck and watch the water. Beautiful walk through Battersea park on the way over and twinkly lights along the Thames after dinner — what could be better?!

A beautifully establishment on the riverside of Battersea. Lovely rustic industrial décor with its exposed pipes and painted brick walls. It had a lovely warm glow with its filament bulb light bulbs which creating a beautiful setting as the night descends. Although during the day I can imagine the double glazed glass walls and conservatory area must let in a lot of natural light. Renowned for their wood fired grill to cook only to cook locally sourced British ingredients. By doing so they keep their menu small and simple. Dishes are quite hearty, well portioned and have high standards. They are also very popular for their brunch menu although we were here for dinner this time round. Staff were awesome, lighthearted and great at recommending dishes. Pork croquettes. These were incredibly. Ring made of pulled pork rather than ground pork I could really taste the juiciness and sweetness of the pork. It was lovely and moist inside, seasoned beautifully and contrasted nicely with the thin crispy breadcrumb batter. It came with a lovely sweet spiced mayonnaise adding a lovely layer of creaminess to it. Cornish crab toast, garlic aioli and watercress. Very pricey for £9. But it was one excellent crab on toast. The crab was very fresh, sweet and each strand moist and silky. A good portion topped on a lovely creamy garlic aioli that gently added fragrant and assisted in moisture sitting on the lovely light crispy toast. Everything bonded together nicely. Topped with watercress for a refreshing touch. Artichoke dip This was incredibly moreish. Rich buttery chunks of artichokes in a lovely thick garlicky cheese blend topped with a layer of caramelised cheese for a more intense smokey cheesiness. Came with lovely toasted bread for dipping. 10oz Striploin Steak, rosemary wedges, chimichurri The steak itself was very tough, fibrous around the edges and was cooked more medium than the medium rare we asked for. Being cooked on a wood fire grill the edges were more charred creating a really dry crusty layer on the outside. The inside was still moist in the very middle. However the favour was undoubtedly tasty, sweet and had depth being marinated for 24 hours. The chimichurri provided a lovely refreshing herby flavour which made the chewiness of the steak more forgiving as we were able to enjoy the flavours as we chew. A rich homemade mayonnaise helped aid in moisture and added creaminess. Wedges were one of the best I’ve had. Beautifully seasoned with salt and rosemary, incredibly crispy on the outside and breaking into a satisfying fluffiness and softness inside. Grilled lamb steak, caponata, spiced ricotta, ratte potato. Although this came pink as asked and held in a lot more moisture it was more rough on the tongue compared to the steak and also quite tough. However the meat was much sweeter than the Striploin and the lovely soft caponata of aubergines and tomatoes aided in moisture and silkiness. A lovely side of spices ricotta for creaminess and crispy and soft ratte fluffy potatoes as a side Broccoli slaw, almond My first experience of eating raw broccoli and surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It was actually a lot less crunchy on its stalks compared to being stir fried and much softer on its florets. It was lighter in flavour and very refreshing. Topped with lovely cranberries to give a good sharp sweetness and almonds for a sweet nutty crunch. Finished nicely with mayonnaise to big everything together Treacle tart, vanilla ice cream. The treacle itself was incredible. It has a really nice smoky undertone to it that I couldn’t quite put my finger on to what it was. It was thick and gooey without being too sweet also helped by the cold vanilla ice cream. The only let down was the dry pastry and was too hard to enjoy with the treacle itself Chocolate pot, spiced croutons The name doesn’t do justice to the creative complexity of this dish. Smooth rich milky chocolate filled with spiced croutons of nutmeg and cinnamon giving depth and warmth into the dish. Topped with a meringue to contrast it with a more foamy lighter texture. Source Battersea does offer a lot to it’s customers. It’s beautiful location, atmosphere and warm service will always win people to return, especially for weekend brunch. Of course for those who believe in using local produce to reduce food air miles will see the greater good that Source is contributing in. Food is the pretty standard British affair that will be suitable to most palates but it is the quality of the ingredients that allow these classic dishes to shine as it already has so much flavour in it. Starters and sides are definitely better than the mains. Chefs are pretty creative but I do hope to see improvements in their cooking skill for timing as currently it is the only thing that is letting it down. Would be nice to see a special seasonal menu too so there can be a reason for people to return frequently to try something new.

It’s been a while since anyone has reviewed this restaurant and I guess the people coming here don’t want to tell anyone about what a great place it is. As someone else said the menu is small 6 or 7 main course dishes but this means you get the food cooked fresh for you, so expect a 10 – 15 minute wait, ideal for tucking into one of the starters. Service is excellent, staff you are enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Can recommend this establishment.

Came here last night for their steak and chips for £10 offer and was seriously impressed. The meat was just delish and the staff were mega friendly! We got the charcuterie board which was also mouth-watering. I’d just note that they don’t have options for sauce to go with the steak which I would have preferred to have hence the star being knocked off– sorry, I take my sauces very seriously! Their wine was really good as well and what led to some great drunken chat. We got the bartender to whip up a whisky based cocktail before going and it slipped down nicely. Our waiter also insisted on showing us this private room so feeling adventurous, we said yes. As we were led down these stairs that look like they would lead to a cold war bunker, I started to regret my yes but what awaited us at the bottom was so worth it! It’s hard to explain but probably a cross between a speakeasy, a vault and a giant wine cellar. I’ve never seen a venue like that before and now can’t WAIT to host a giant party there — it’s the perfect setting! Plus because it’s underground, you could make as much noise as you want! I walked away from this unassuming restaurant vowing to tell everyone I know about it.

This review is 4 stars verging on 5. There were 6 in our group, and we all had at least one outstanding and one very good dish. The service was knowledgeable and the wine list good. If that was the length of it, it would be 4 stars only as, although very good, the food was not particularly memorable. However, we came out at around £35 per head which is remarkable value, and that’s what verges me towards 5 stars. I will definitely return.

Good atmosphere, but average food. Limited menu and had to send food back as it was served cold. Really wanted to like the place but was disappointed.

I really want to love new businesses in my ‘hood. I really do. But I think The Source is still working it out. I will say that the place is pretty cute. When you walk up, it almost looks like a little pop up restaurant with a small front, but when you go in, it’s much larger. Beware the odd little step down right after the door! It’s clean and marginally rustic inside with wooden tables and chairs and whatnot. The food was alright. Definitely the best part of our meal was the starters. The crab toast is pretty darn tasty, although crab, mayo, toast, and greenery… it would be shocking if it wasn’t good. The artichoke dip is also quite tasty with big hunks of fresh artichoke in. I had the cod with chorizo and chickpeas for a main, and while it was ok, I think my cod was slightly undercooked. I base this on the texture as it was too dark to properly see it. And the chickpeas were a bit al dente as well, which isn’t really something I look for in a chickpea. As Erica mentioned, copious amounts of salt were needed. I left my main unfinished which is definitely a sign as I can pack in the grub when I wanna! As a side, we tried the mac/cheese/squash. I believe the squash was pureed in with the sauce as there was a slight sweetness to it. Again, decent, but not anything to rave about. Intrigued by the concept of a donut ice cream sandwich, we had to give it a go. I love ice cream, so you’re never going to get a complaint about that from me, but I’m not sure the donut was the freshest one ever. It certainly wasn’t particularly squishy as a fresh donut should be! It was a super slow Wednesday night, but they seemed to have plenty of staff. Although our guy could have been dubbed Captain Mumbles as it was difficult to hear and understand him and had to ask him to repeat himself a lot. I think The Source has some kinks to work out, but it could have good potential… although I likely won’t be rushing back to find out!

______________________________________________________________ I really wanted to like this place as well, its very close to my home and convenient. Also a friend recommended this place to me from the soft opening experience a few weeks ago. I’m guessing there are still some kinks to smooth out. The amuse bouche was that of 2 beautiful radishes with schmear of butter and finishing salt. It was nice but not much to do there… little effort really. 4 stars — For starters we shared the crab dish and artichoke dip. Both were really good but messy to eat and I’m pretty sure the staff came to my rescue with plates after seeing me make a molten hot mess of myself in the process of stuffing my face with awesome cheesy and boiling hot artichoke dip. finally we got plates. thankful. For a main I had the tagliatelle with rabbit. FYI folks, whatever you read in the description is probably all thats in the dish. If there was sauce in my pasta, then it was butter and it evaporated because there wasn’t anything really saucy about my pasta. I was expecting(foolishly) a sicilian style red pasta sauce with some flavour. Uh no. I layered on the salt and pepper and nothing, it barely picked up anything. It was a real disappointment. Tomorrow i’m making a sauce of mine and with what I’m taking home making something awesome. The problem with the sauce was there was not only little sauce but there were really big chunks of rabbit in the dish though they tasted fresh it was a bit too pronounced. And by pronounced i mean presence and not flavour. It was really lacking in flavour of any kind. The pasta itself was fresh and light but the DISH as a WHOLE was lacking. Doughnut ice cream sandwich. Meh. it was ok. the waiter said it was the best, so if thats the best, then boy i wouldn’t want to see their worst. then on the tab i read that we were charged £1.00 for fizzy water in my cran and fizzy water drink which they later took off due to a problem in the new system they’re using. £2.50 for cranberry… it was HALF the glass and it was a short one at that. Lets see how they shift, and grow. once the kinks get ironed out and its not opening week i’m sure it’ll be better.
