Visited with a friend on a Sunday night. Barmaid gave us her attention immediately and the landlord(I think) joined in a conversation helpfully and gave Simon the results of the cricket and rugby. I’m pleased one can also buy a coffee or tea in this pub. Old fashioned, lovely and typical of Hampstead and Belsize Park just a stone’s throw away from Chalk Farm Underground Station. Being smokers we headed to a lovely garden/terrace area to the side with a gate that can only be used as an exit to the street and not an entrance.

The worst meal and service we’ve had in London to date. We don’t write reviews normally but we feel others should not have the misfortune of a dining experience at Sir Richard Steele’s. Over cooked, under cooked, lumpy, greasy, everything that could make a simple meal completely unappetising.

Love going here, the ambiance is great and the guests as well as the staff are all very friendly. With their outside heated terrace you can also sit outside on chilly days. When going out for dinner nearby we practically always skip dessert at the restaurant we’re at and go here instead for their delicious chocolate brownie! :D

I feel very lucky to call Steeles my local! The atmosphere of the pub is eclectic and fun — we tend to visit early(before 9pm) and we can always find a table, it tends to get busy later with a door man and all. It’s cozy in winter time with a nice big Christmas tree, and fun in the summer as you can sit on the patio. The food is good with big portions. I typically try the veggie special or have the falafel burger and chips. On a Sunday they do an amazing veggie nut roast with cranberry sauce. They’ve got a good wine and beer list, boasting loads of craft beers. And best of all, they are dog friendly. We always bring our big pooch with us and the manager and patrons love visiting with him. Definitely worth a trip as it beats the busy dirty pubs in Camden!

Chill out Andre M — It’s a shame you didn’t realise your legs were able to take you to the pub around the corner which was actually showing the match with sound. It seems you were so insulted by the humour you stayed for the whole thing. The weekly quiz at the pub is as much about the jokes and mickeys taking as winning. Sorry the humour wasn’t to your taste but we love it. The great thing about the UK is we can laugh at ourselves and others without worrying if it unpatriotic. Unclench before you suck up the upholstery. Michael & Ally

Been in town a couple weeks so my boyfriend and i have spent a few nights here watching the world cup. I really like the pub, the food is good, servers seem pretty awesome so why the 2 stars?.Last night i came and there was a pub quiz thing. Bit annoying to have no sound to watch my beloved usa, but not as annoying and offensive as the quiz master. I don’t think iv heard such cheesy bad taste in a long time. It was rude and embarrassing. Was only 20 people there for the quiz and most of them seemed to struggle to laugh, it was almost as though this guy was on a major performance. Cheap smutty gay innuendo, foul language, and some has been[never heard o ya], who thought it was a good idea to start a conversation with his ‘audience’ about americans and muslims. How dare you. I will go back, but never on this night.

Pretty good burger though you can’t order the temperature – no kids after 7. Very cool pub atmosphere and decent pub food. Will go again for sure

Bit of a gem! Really nice outdoor space — been done up recently — with lots of tables and plenty of room for big groups. Inside its darker and more old fashioned — like how you remember pubs were. They serve food too nowadays and have some really great sharing platters for groups to tuck into. Drinks are reasonable for the area but certainly not cheap. Still, it’s definitely the walk up that hill from the chalk farm if you’re in the area!

Not quite worth the full five stars given but getting close. Proper pub, busy, mixed crowd, reasonably priced, decent drink selection and good music. Happily have a pint or ten here.

Unfortunately my 10 minutes experience of this pub was limited to standing at the bar trying to get served before deciding to leave and go somewhere else. Most people in there seemed to be trying to get served with bar staff wondering around in a daze. OK, it was the weekend but still… It looked like a nice pub though with some character so I will give it 3 stars rather than 2 even though we didn’t actually get a drink since at least the place looked like somewhere I might come back to on a quieter night.

Talk about an underdog, just a stone’s throw from possibly the most annoying pub street in the universe is a decent pub with lots of space, two fireplaces, a garden and an odd dog or two. I happened to make the walk down when my after-work local was unexpectedly closed and was glad I did, the RIchard Steele is a bit cuter and much more reasonably priced than some of the things up towards Belsize. I recommend it on a cold night when they’ve got the fires going, you really can’t beat it.

This is one of my locals pubs and even with new management still has an independent feel to it. Have noticed that its not as lively as before.

This place is fantastic. While traveling in London from the States, we stayed with a friend of ours who had just moved to the city one week prior, and I can definitely tell you that we helped him discover his new«local». Sir Remington Steele(as we nicknamed it) has a really fun casual atmosphere with super friendly people, from staff to clientele. They have an awesome beer and cider selection, and the Thai food is nothing to sneeze at either. If you’re ever around Haverstock Hill, I definitely recommend stopping in for a pint(or several, like we did on more than one occasion)

My friend who lives round the corner had been bleating on about the Richard Steele for yonks, so one night, at a loose end, I called him up and demanded he show me what the fuss is all about. I got there, and was taken aback by the amount of «stuff» in this pub. The walls are adorned with mirrors and signs and shelves packed to bursting with books and trinkets. The beer was superb, I had a pint of Adnams Oyster(my favourite brewery in the world), and I enjoyed it sat next to a lovely open fire. The staff were at just the right level of familiarity and the clientelle seemed pleasant. I will definitely return and give it two firm thumbs up.

I think the Sir Richard Steele may have become my favourite traditional pub. The space is so intriguing. There are two open fires, huge mirrors adorning the walls and a huge array of artistic clutter such as portraits and books. With lots of little areas, some supporting large tables for groups, others for a more cosy intimate feel, I couldn’t help feel like I was sat in a scene from a fantasy novel, waiting for the likes of Gandalf the Grey or an elf to walk in. What impresses me the most about the Steele is how it has everything you could want. There are draught beers starting at £2.20 for a pint, a Thai food kitchen, a programme of live sport shown, special offers on wine and a weekly rosta of entertainment. There is even a function room for hire upstairs and a decent beer garden around the side of the building. I will definitely be back for the cheap booze, tasty food and charming, local atmosphere. Sir Richard Steele… You have certainly caught my eye.

Very pleasant pub. I really like it. It’s not local to me but I definitely need to go out of my way to come back here. Bass at just 2 pounds a pint?!? And I didn’t even drink that because they had Adnams Regatta on, which is a cracking pint. There were a couple of other ales to, all for under 3 pounds. There are a few tables outside, which would be great to sit at outside in the summer. Inside the artwork on the ceiling is epic! They have a few music events too to keep the punter’s entertained. And as for Sir Richard? Well, he was an Irish politician and writer and according to one of the quotes on the wall the most agreeable rake that ever trod the realms of indulgence. This place could well be worth a 5 but I don’t like to give out that rating based on such a short visit.

Somehow I always end up at the Sir Richard Steele. A) because I live but a five minute walk from the place B) it offers a wide selection of beer that I haven’t even heard of C) there’s good live music or at least something else going on every night. Sure the place serves Thai food, too, but that’s just too random for me. This place is huge and I’ve gotten lost in here plenty of times. The mismatched furniture has a kind of quirky charm to it, too. Minus one star because it always smells like feet — though some may say this is part of the authenticity?

The Steele’s is such a fabulous pub — all that I had dreamed London pubs would be, and, finally, I found it. So old-school, so quirky, so damn cool it almost pains me. It’s a big pub, with lots of seating, and some cute little dark corners around the other side of the bar, great for a date! Huge beer garden which is great for Summer-afternoon drinks(it’s coming, Summer, it’s coming!). Oh and another large area upstairs that holds regular comedy/music/gig nights. Check the blackboard out the front for details. The staff are so rock and cute that it’s hard not to fall in love at least once(or twice) during a visit, that is, if you haven’t already fallen in love with another punter… The pubs serves Thai Food which is fabulously tasty — restaurant quality — and all meals less than a tenner.

This is one of my favourite pubs in North London. It offers a slightly more rowdy and interesting pub experience than say The Hill, which is just opposite The Steele’s on Haverstock Hill. There is always a very lively and varied clientele– from crazed men with dogs to very mediocre rockstars(Borell) There is one large open bar downstairs where they occasionally have live bands playing and a large room upstairs where they hold a weekly pub quiz. My favourite part of the pub is the back area of the downstairs floor where there a few, almost hidden rooms. They are very atmospheric– the rooms are dark and lit by Gothic candle holders and its walls are adorned with eerie German paintings. The Thai food is excellent and very cheap.

Located on Haverstock Hill, the nearest tube station is Chalk Farm. The short walk up the hill is good for toning the muscles on your legs and on the way home you catch a glimpse London’s skyline which is very beautiful at night. The atmosphere is really relaxed, with a mix of locals and celebs like Chris Evans. sometimes people bring their pets in which is sweet. The bar itself is really cosy with a quirky little snug room, a beer garden and an upstairs restaurant that serves great Tai food with an interestingly painted sky on the ceiling.
