I don’t know what idiot have this less than 5 stars but clearly they are clueless(or a local competitor maybe!). I work in Paddington most days and have tried all of the Italians being an Aussie where great Italians are in abundance. They have ALL disappointed except for here. Don’t be put off by the simplistic nature of the furniture and décor — it is fab. The pasta is perfectly cooked, sauces excellent and service is always great. It feels like you’re in Tuscany at a local Italian. Wine? I am a bit of an expert but the house white and red are excellent value and pretty decent too. 5 stars and thanks guys. I’m a lunchtime regular!

Don’t bother. Ate here last night during a layover in London. Food was OK but not remarkable(in any sense, other than the horribly overcooked vegetables) and service was completely inattentive to a single female diner. Waste of time and money! Only giving it 2 stars instead of 1 because it was a short walk back to hotel.

The food here was good but not excellent. The service was okay, not good but not bad. Nothing really stood out as exceptional but I did enjoy my dinner. A little crowded in this small restaurant but typical for the area and to be expected.

A fuir.

I had a late dinner at the restaurant and the experience was underwhelming. It’s one of zillions Italian pizzerias which offer a number of different pasta and pizza. The Spaghetti Carbonara was below average and came with very fat but not crispy bacon and the sauce was not good either. At least the staff was friendly.

Late night at the office, a tiring day and couldn’t be bothered to go far or put up with fussy service, I needed carbs and fast. San Marco may be a typical Paddington tourist restaurant but it was next to my hotel, there was very little else about it that would have attracted me to it. A basic trattoria style eatery, it’s not somewhere you’d want to take a date but it was comfortable enough and the welcome was friendly. Loved the well-flavoured tomato and basil soup, a well put together tomato and mozzarella salad would have benefited from a better quality mozzarella and the spaghetti with an aglio olio dressing was decent but unremarkable. Every portion was enormous and, happily, the bill wasn’t. If a filling, decent meal is your goal rather than a fine dining experience then San Marco won’t let you down.
