If you are a fan of cheese, truffles or clean comfort foods this is your place. Don’t take people on a budget and don’t take people who can’t do diary(it would be unfair for them to watch you bite into the truffled cheese macrons). The snacks are so good. It would be a great travesty for you to go to this place and not order one serve of each. They come in servings of two but they will do you a three if you ask. On that– the staff are fantastic. The bread gets it’s own paragraph because it is so good. Sourdough with smoked butter. WOW. I could almost go to this place and just have bread, snacks and wine. But then I would be missing out on what’s to come… Wine list is pretty good. As I am sherry obsessed I would like to see a couple more sherries. The fino they had went really well with the snacks. I probably should have got a bottle. Entrees and mains feature lots of colourful veg and delicious sauces. They are not great to share but I guess you could between two. This place is great for a date on that topic…(esp if he is paying…). Mains are in the £20’s so be prepared. It’s worth it though. The desserts are modern twists on classics and so beautiful. Hard to break into the pieces of art but worth it because WOW. The restaurant itself is beautifully decked out with lovely light fittings and modern, comfortable table set up. Still thinking of the macarons…

All too often British cuisine has been viewed as boring and lacking imagination, however Portland is totally the opposite and it showcased some really solid cooking with great use of seasonal British produces. Portland has all the ingredients to become a great success, all the 3 main dishes I tried on the day was top notch, the kitchen clearly has skills and given time to adapt to all the feedbacks, I really can see Portland becoming one of the hottest restaurants in London in 2015.

I really wanted to love this place. It has gotten excellent reviews and when I checked the menu a while before we went I was most excited. Perhaps we went when the regularly changed menu just wasn’t all that? At least on the mains. The starters were superb, varied and tasty, the best part of the meal by far The wine menu is good but expensive. The service is good, but could be better; we weren’t told the specials were running out until they had, and we sat down at 8pm. That may have been compounded by the fact the specials were the best dishes. Which takes me back to the point we just got them on a bad day. The cod I had was bland. The pigeon was a measly portion even when considering its a small bird. I kept wishing we’d just ordered more starters. The décor was lovely, simple and relaxing. Unfortunuately I don’t think I’ll go back to try it again and/or give them a second chance.

First real meal in London ever and must say was pleasantly surprised. Found this place on the londoneater just looking for a place with good food. Listed as a wine bar. Had a glass of the Sangiovese and merlot. Both good but admittedly I’m not most knowledgable on wine. Started with the beef tartare: served at a good temp, I’m not a fan when it comes out cold because you can’t really taste the beef. Served with beets two ways and some greens and fig? For my main I had the monkfish with grilled stringy mushrooms(idk what they are called, have only had them in hot pot before) served with a dashi sauce. Monkfish was cooked perfectly and the bite with everything had a umami flavor due to the dashi. Dessert was probably the best pet of the meal. Chocolate amazing bar with hazelnut ice cream… just get it. Each course got better. Highly recommend

A perfect combination of terrific, inventive food and relaxed, highly polished service in an informal atmosphere suffused with professionalism, from kitchen to front house staff. The menu is brief but varied, with daily specials worth attending to. All areas of the menu include modest options as well as extravagant splurges. Reservations essential as this place is becoming so popular. Two notes to consider: 1. the noise level is LOUD, 2. It’s easy to spend 80 pounds for dinner per person even without pillaging the wine list. A genuine treat.

Cute spacious restaurant with fresh affordable dishes. I love the relaxing ambiance here and the décor. In terms of food we ordered the Chicken Gangjeong(Korean style fried chicken for £7), the leeks with yogurt sauce £7, Asian inspired broth £9, the Salsify veggie dish(£10), the Spring and Winter veg(£14), the venison(£20), and the yuzu tart(£7). Loved everything and left nothing on the plates.
