Okay, I randomly was in Highgate earlier this week and went back here because I had (yes, another) coupon, this time for 30% off the entire meal which seems to be a promotion they’re running. Anyway, my experience was vastly different.
It took a few minutes to be seated, as no waiter noticed us for a bit, but when we did get a seat, we had a lovely waitress. She did her best to seat us in a comfortable seat (difficult, considering the heat and broken air conditioning) and apologised and immediately brought us over some ice water. I didn’t get her name, but she was absolutely lovely.
The food was served quickly and was cooked well; our drinks were kept cold and refreshing. Even though it’s just a chain, I had an overall very nice experience. My fiancé even remarked on our way out that it was the best Pizza Express experience he’d ever had, due in no small part to the service.

This is a small pizza express, with most of the tables in one side of the restaurant, and the kitchen and a couple of tables and entrance in the other part. As it’s small, it’s often quite busy, though I’ve always managed to get a table.
The pizzas are always well made and super tasty, and Pizza Express often have money off deals by email, so it’s a good place to go for an informal, good value evening meal.
They did have a problem with not having enough kitchen staff on Saturdays for a few weeks, but the staff noticed and did something about it. Apart from that, the service is always very good.

Went with our young kids and the staff were just so so lovely so nice to not be made to feel as if we had 2 heads just because we had children in tow this from cynical long-​term londoners too

Not one of the best Pizza Expresses, but the service is good and the food standard Pizza Express high standards. The downside is the dark interior, lacking in cosiness or individuality, which makes it feel colder in the winter (though it could be pleasantly cool in the summer.) Nevertheless, it is a good stop for lovely pizza in Highgate Village.
