An absolute haven for any aspiring modern day dandy or dandette, Penhaligons is one of the few remaining perfume houses in the world and this impressive title is reflected by the interior, staff and of course perfume in their beautiful Islington store. After reading Tom Robins Jitterbug Perfume, I find the entire idea of perfumery fascinating. Even if I cant afford to buy anything here for myself(my rich Grandmas favourite is Victorian Posy) I still enjoy treating my olfactory senses in this store. It is a perfect place for a present for a special someone and not only do they stock a wide selection of perfume sourced from high quality ingredients from all over the world, they have aristocratic luxury down to a tee with items like leather boxed domino sets, cashmere dressing gowns and silk pyjamas.

A traditional perfume house, probably the only one I have seen in today’s modern world. Even from the outside the shop looks magical, like an alchemist’s lab. Which, I discovered is in fact what William Penhaligon was. The scents, oils and perfumes are lush and you can see from miles the care that goes into making everything in the store. The sales woman had obviously been trained about the Penhaligon’s philosophy. Leather cases made in the tradition of the saddle maker, perfume bottles made from hand blown glass and hand cut with a diamond wheel. They create an entire mood as soon as you walk in. They have their 21 fragrances out for you to try and it is very likely you’ll find one you love. My favourite ‘Blenheim Bouquet’(for men) has hints of lemon, lime and lavender with undertones of musk, pine and black pepper, it is very pungent and cut throat. A 50ml bottles goes for £50, 100ml for £70. They have an entire range; soap, oil, talcum, bath gel, shaving cream, after shave and deodorant stick. It is like going into an aristocrat world, but just go in and enjoy the ride.
