The food and atmosphere were fantastic, very authentic polish feel, but the service was rather cold and detached. We had to get our server’s attention several times, she was very purpose driven, which felt rather unfriendly. Also a little warning, the water and bread they offer before you order are NOT free as they are in most restaurants, they do actually charge for these items without telling you ahead of time. However, the food was FANTASTIC! It was presented well, tasted great and was very reasonably priced. They have a large selection of traditional polish foods on the menu and everything we tried(two starters, two mains) was delicious. Would definitely go again despite the minimal service.

43 years I’ve lived here. Probably walked past this place, ooh, 1000 times. I dunno, maybe 2000. Never once noticed it before. It looks tattyy. It’s in a scruffy little part of Goldhawk Rd, right off the Bush Green. The sort of place you scurry past, head down on your way to safer climbs. Being off work helps you look up a bit more though. Notice things. And as I walked past this small scruffy place for the 2000th time in my life I noticed that the slightly murky window had a number of tatty old reviews stuck to it from the likes of AA Gill and Fay Mashler. These people don’t mess about. They tell it how it is. And they were saying this grotty little place was really rather good. And they have been saying so for some years. I scurried off home and booked a table for two for lunch. The charming woman who answered told me no need to reserve, nobody comes at lunchtime. Gulp. Now there’s plenty about this place really not to like. The sticky carpets. The smell of grandma as you walk in. The ornaments which look like the came straight from 100 yards up the road in Shepherd’s Bush market. It’s got a touch of the old people’s home about it. The combination is enough to make the faint hearted turn and walk out on the spot. But anyone more intrepid will be rewarded with the most wonderful Polish home cooking served by the most charming old polish proprietor at the most charitable of prices. The missus started with good old chicken soup with noodles. Proper Jewish fare. She’s comparing it to her mum’s and everyone’s mum makes the best so it’s going to be tough competition. But it passes with flying colours. Particularly the juicy pieces of chicken, the clear stock and the bundles of dill freshening the whole thing up. I went straight in with the stuffed cabbage. Can’t remember what she called it but it’s a Polish speciality. A huge cabbage leaf stuffed with pork mince and served in a rich tomato sauce. It didn’t disappoint. Exactly as described above. Hearty and expertly put together. It came with accompanying slices of potato roasted nicely and a fresh, zingy celery and apple salad. The whole thing was gobbled up. And it was a whole thing, believe me. Don’t enter here anything but ravenous. The missus had salmon with blinis which were pretty good. The blini had good texture and the salmon was fresh and plentiful, so no worries there. Full up, we asked what the sweets on the sideboard were out of interest and the proprietor simply handed us a plate to try. No charge. They were sponge dipped in chocolate and coated in coconut. Not my thing but certainly the missus wasn’t going to let them go spare. It turns out the proprietor is something of a local celebrity and is the heartbeat of this place. And it shows. She obviously cares so much for the food and the ambience, and it really shows. This place is a one off and it’s down to her. We felt her hospitality in a totally empty restaurant fully and were charmed and fed beautifully. And we paid a mere £21 for the pleasure. There were plenty of things on the menu to intrigue and delight. I left vowing to come back and try the Polish rabbit next. Sure, the place is a little run down and could do with a steam clean. Don’t go there if that sort of thing gives you the heebie jeebies. But in these days of adequate chain restaurants serving ubiquitous food in sterile surrounding, this was a breath of musty air and my lungs and belly and spirit were all the better for it. I believe this place comes alive in the evening, and there is talk of free shots of Polish Vodka. If it’s good enough for Fay, it’s good enough for anyone, and we certainly enjoyed our lunch at the place I’ve walked past 2000 times and will hopefully stop and eat at another 200.

It’s interesting to read all the previous reviews, and I think the best way to sum up Patio is that you have to be in the right mood and with the right people. My friend had been trying to persuade me to give the place a try for quite some time, and somehow my prejudices against dumplings and sauerkraut always tempered my excitement. I was really surprised where it was located as I had always taken Patio for a boring café when I cycled past it reminded me a lot of walking into my grandmother’s living room(despite a lack of sofas with three-deep cushions). We arrived really late(after 10) and the only people in sight were three diners finishing their meals. We had plenty of time to look around the ornately decorated room with its beautifully mis-matched crockery, kitsch coasters, bouquets of flowers and lovely collection of original paintings. The lady who finally served us was lovely and made us feel extremely welcome. Several attempts of upselling, but we stuck to our guns and ordered one course each only. The Polish bread offered was very welcome though and the duck pâté(dripping with fried onion, I think) a delicous guilty pleasure. While my friend chose the traditional cabbage leaf filled with minced pork(delicious comfort food, and they also provide a vegetarian option), I opted for the slightly lighter grilled trout. Both were served with a selection of seasonal vegetables, new potatoes(sauted, so not quite as healthy) and the best coleslaw I ever tasted. The rose wine was old-fashioned and a bit on the sweet side but perfectly suited the food and the environment. We were happy to share a second one(the measures a massive!). OK, it was late and perhaps we were particularly hungry, but the food really was good. We were in a brilliant mood following a sunny and fun day and thus relaxed. We perceived the random service as charming, and loved the fact that staff individually said goodbye as their shift ended. A real family restaurant offering honest home-cooked food, and I will definitely return.

Wow. What a place! Definitely like your Polish friend’s grandmother’s house in décor, and I knew that it was the place for me when I saw a) the portrait of Alan Rickman on the left wall and b) that they were playing Charles n’ Eddie’s «Would I lie to you?» First of all, I want to say that Polish food in London is amazing. In Canada, the Polish food I did have was ridiculously heavy and not appetizing in the slightest. But in London, it’s great — I can’t even imagine how good it would be in Poland! All that aside, the value for money is insane at Patio. A 3 course meal for £16.50 is unheard of with this quality and quantity of food, it was like an endless stream! My borscht with dumplings was delectable. Loved the dill. I also had trout which was perfectly fried. And then some coconut squares and strawberries for dessert. My boyfriend’s duck was amazing and so was his potato pancake. We basically had to roll ourselves home after this meal. Diners — mostly people in their 50s and 60s.

This place is a mistake. The service by the headwaitress, in her fifties, is an absolute mess. The food is not too bad and the portions are generous, but I did not really care if she had a flu jab that night. Searching for the toilet I ended up in the lower ground where the smell was really bad, and amongst some tables(probably for functions) I saw the largest bag of onion ever! Patio is as pricey as Gessler’s(Daquise at Kensington) but is not a patch on it!

Decent Polish food, for a low price, and really, really nice staff. My party and I didn’t drink alcohol, so instead of the advertised free shot of vodka after our meal, they brought us dessert, coffee, and hot water with fresh mint from the owner’s garden! I’ll definitely be returning when I want a homey meal.

We found this Shepherd’s Bush gem through the Lonely Plane’st London App(which I also highly recommend). Patio has fantastic polish food, a lovely ambience right out of an Eastern European traditional stately home, and kind attentive staff. All of this at a very good price. We *shared* a prix fixe of 12.95 and with it we got 3 delicious courses — Lamb with veggies and potatoes, Borst soup(I’d never had it before — it tasted both filling AND healthy), addictive coconut petit fours, and a shot of vodka. I highly recommend all of the above and the potato pancakes(pancakes, sour cream, cabbage — who could need more). The 3 course prix fixe for one was more than enough for two people. We will be coming back here the next time we tire of the traditional pub fare.

Our reviewer(who went with a large party of friends) was thrilled with the combination of delicious Polish food, attentive service and a very attractive price. Probably the best pierogi and barszcz in London! NOTE — Patio does NOT serve ‘Fast Food’. A few tips if you want your visit to be really memorable: Be prepared to wait for the appropriate length of time for freshly prepared real food. If you are coming with a group of friends on a Friday or Saturday evening DO try to book a day or so beforehand and advise if you have any special requirements.

we came out of a concert in Shepherds Bush Empire and were looking for a place to have a drink. It was Sunday, early closing, our luck was out. So we thought! As we passed the Patio an lady came out and asked us in. What we entered was another world. Patio is a place from the past; flower patterns, velour, crystal, baroque doo-dads and silver cutlery, mismatched furniture and … great food. The blini with smoked salmon were to die for. We were offered vodka on the house and treated to the Polish owners story, how she came to London and how she built up her business. Daniel Day-Lewis’ sister, the cook and cookbook writer Tamasin is a fan. Go there! Treat yourself!

On the other hand, this place a gazillion stickers and commendations and to me is not all that. The first time I went I was really fascinated with the interiors, heavy, very heavy. Velvet curtains, carpets, vases everywhere, flowers flowers and more flowers, a piano, old fashioned china, it is like going to your grandmother’s house. I think it is one of the perks of living in such a vibrant city, the range of cultures reflects on the places interiors. The four course set meal is a good deal £15.99, this includes complimentary vodka, pre-dessert fruit and cake. They have a really nice home made soup, it tastes home made and the veggies that accompany your main are tender and fresh. However, lately, the last couple of times I have been there, it seems the quality of the food has gone a bit on the low side. Also, we had a problem with our bill, were some things we didn’t order magically appeared on it. It is not a total disappointment but there is space for improvement.

Oh god, what a misadventure this was. We had booked tickets to see Juno at the Vue and wanted to get some dinner beforehand and I had been wanting to try this restaurant due to it’s consistently good response on this here website. However, it was Saturday night, we arrived around 8pm with only an hour to spare. This restaurant is not large and is certainly not overstaffed. We were stuffed into a corner and forgotten about for 15 minutes at which point we were handed menus. About 30 minutes later our food arrived and thus ensued a somewhat hilarious exchange where the waitress thrust a dish into my face and stated ‘halibut’, I responded saying ‘haddock? Halibut I ordered haddock Halibut! No, Haddock. Halibut! I didn’t order halibut Halibut!‘ I accepted the halibut, as we didn’t have time to change it. We ate our food in about 6 minutes, paid and literally ran to the cinema, nearly greeting our dinner so soon after ingesting it. The food was very nice, I think(it was so quickly done with that I had no time to savour, just shovel). It was averagely priced, mains £8-£16 ish. I am willing to give it a second chance in the future, but definitely not when in a rush.

I used to live just down the road from this restaurant and developed a taste for their wonderful Pierogi(a very popular polish food similar to ravioli with a variety of different fillings) I found the waiters and waitresses to be excellent and extremely friendly(they are all polish and it may help that I am normally with my polish girlfriend whenever we go!) The pierogi is the best out of all the reastaurants I have eaten in the UK by far and is served with a fantastic beetroot soup which also far surpasses anything else I’ve — so far — experienced. Patio serves an excellent range of beers and polish vodkas which are apparently popular by the number of people partaking of them whenever I visit! There is an outside area for smokers and the decorations, whilst undeniably gaudy, lend the place an idiosyncratic joi de vivre. This would be a good place to bring a small group of friends looking for a fun and delicious dinner in warm friendly surroundings.

Been here several times and have really enjoyed the atmosphere. Cheap, cheerful, honest. You get authentic polish food — more suited to the colder than warmer months of the year :-) 3 courses, with a shot of vodka included. Very popular with groups from the BBC, which is nearby. My wife had her 30th birthday party here(you can hire downstairs) so it has a fond place in my heart. Don’t expect haute cuisine though. Great fun.

Over the past several years I’ve eaten at The Patio at least 6 times and can’t say that I’ve had a bad meal there. Warm atmosphere, homemade perogi, great desserts with a vodka are trademarks of this Shepherds Bush institution. Highly recommend the duck and Borscht soup. Not terribly busy during the week, but would recommend the upstairs for the best atmosphere.
