Parsons Green Underground Station

Average London station although they could repair the roof! sometimes annoying having to be packed into one corner of the platform especially when trains are cancelled!

If you’re ever running trough Parsons Green Tube station at 7.30 in the morning and are in desperate need of some water, it’s okay to ask! The friendly staff member behind the scratched up glass window will proudly give you the good stuff; bottled H2O that is, not tap. He’ll also happily tell you the story of his 5 km run at 3am that morning, but it’s fine to wait and listen because the train won’t come for another seven minutes anyway. I like this change; a happy underground staff member, who is actually there to help and not make life just that much harder on an already crowded/​busy/​stressful London week day journey. Ta to that!

Well the two other reviews seem to have this station covered! but Parsons Green to me seem sto be an average station in an avergae area. Tubes come very frequently and it is only about 10 minutes from Earls Court and 15 from Wimbledon. Outside the station is a lovely green– Parsons Green which is nice to stop, eat and have a picnic: p

I use this station quite often to visit friends in the area and also to get to and from my garage when having my bike serviced.
It’s on the Wimbledon branch of the District Line, served by trains to/​from both the City (via Victoria) to Upminster and to Edgware Road via Paddington. The station is used by just over 5 million passengers a year.
The station opened in 1880 as part of the extension of the (then) Metropolitan District Railway from West Brompton to Putney. Like most of the original stations on the route, the road level buildings are in a simple Italianate style in creamy-​yellow stock brick, although the façade has always been limited to the main doorway.
The platform level buildings — actually situated on the long viaduct which runs all the way to Putney Bridge — retain their original decorative wooden awnings which, as deannederago points out, provide good shelter from the elements. The station has sidings at both ends, and is sometimes used for trains terminating short of Putney Bridge or Wimbledon.
As well as the main entrance on Parson’s Green Road, there is a useful rear entrance to a footpath (Beaconsfield Walk) which provides a short cut to the roads running south off Fulham Road, around Whittingstall Road.

This is my nearest tube station and it seems to service mostly residents. Those travelling to Chelsea games would go one stop before to Fulham Broadway, and Fulham FC fans would go to Putney Bridge. The actual Parsons Green is not THAT impressive, and there is not much else nearby for non residents that Parsons Green Tube would be the best route to.
This is a local tube for local people. There is nothing for you here.

It is a clean station and small by city standards as it only runs the Disctrict line. It has NO wheelchair access and two tall flights of stairs.
Wait. Let me say something about that. Outside the station on the foot path exit side there are 4 steps that lead down in to the station, however, they built a wheelchair ramp around that to go in the station EVEN THOUGH the other entrance, which is 20 non step paces away, needs no stairs, and is closest to the gate entrance for luggage and wheelchairs. Plus YOU HAVE 2 FLIGHTS OF STAIRS TO WALK UP TO THE PLATFORM ANYWAY!!!
Anyway there is also no toilet. The station is most always clean because it has trash cans everywhere. Both sides of the platform have large permanent enclosures with minimal seating, however great for bad weather. You have to walk to th Kings road or Fulham Broadway, both short walks, to catch continuing bus services.
The station always has at least 2 attendants. It has a cash point outside on the path exit, one cash and one credit only ticket/​oyster booth near the Parsons Green Lane exit. There is a Budgeons across the lane which always has a line, yet is sometimes convenient. There is also a minor emergency walk in clinic across the street.
There is a small newsagent when you walk in the station which I SWEAR always has the same guy working there. He is really nice though :) (he carries coke light, not diet coke. boooo.)
The station was opened in 1881 and has been updated (obviously) over the years. My guess is about 1960 based on the paint scheme outside on the trains over pass. Wikipedia also says it is the proposed start of a new line connecting Parsons Green to Victoria, with stops in Chelsea. Neato.
