Otabe is 5 minutes walk from Putney station and offers a clean, nourishing bowl of Japanese rice with salmon, fresh, interesting and lovingly prepared veggies. The dressings were lovely, it was beautifully presented and all created in a small kitchen in the café. I also enjoyed a matcha orange juice which was very tasty. Friendly service in a unique atmosphere. I would return to try their other offerings.

A wonderful wee café on the end of the block. Super friendly staff, and tasty wholesome food. Well worth stepping that way if you’re in Putney. There is life beyond the High Street!

Having recently moved from Los Angeles, I’m very happy to find this cute health-conscious café that has anything from coffee/tea, authentic Japanese soba/udon noodles to crepes! Everything is homemade and many items on the menu use organic ingredients. Food is served in unique and tasteful ceramic dishes. The Japanese man and French woman who were cooking and serving were both friendly and attentive. My boyfriend and I only got to try the following for lunch the other day, but I’m definitely going back to try more :) Wakame Salmon Salad Wakame seaweed and smoked salmon were mixed with some sort of sesame-based dressing. The salmon was so soft it melted in my mouth. It came in a cool charcoal grey plate. Veggie Soba Soba was topped with wakame, shredded carrots and daikon slices. The dish came with a cute wooden bottle that had shichimi spice. The soup was light but flavorful, not too salty. What a comfort food on a cold day! Ogura & Matcha Crêpe I love the slightly sweet crêpe batter. Inside was the azuki red bean spread which is not too sweet. Matcha green tea syrup poured on top was what made this crêpe amazing. Mint Chip Chocolate Tea Sounds intriguing, isn’t it? This is one of the many organic tea options they offer. Can’t wait to try another flavor next time.

This is the first authentically flavored Japanese food I’ve had since arrive in London. Perfect balance of favors, great customer service and over all an awesome experience. The cream they use in their crepes is like a Devonshire cream, but even better. It has a slightly nutty flavor. Almost like Nutella cream. Also the texture of the soba is perfect — slightly chewy, but not undercooked. I definitely want to try their enticing baked goods the next time I go.
