As a generally enthusiastic person I never leave one star reviews. But My Tailors in Crouch End is a rare breed and did such an terrible alternation job. Just don’t go there! I took an evening gown and a shorter cocktail dress to be shortened. The evening dress had two layers, and the very visible underskirt came back looking like a person in a blindfold cut it with kiddy scissors. Which is exactly what happened. There was no finishing. It had literally just been cut with scissors, and not even in a measured way, just jagged and uneven. I should have known. When I put the dress on initially so the shop could tailor it to the correct length, the seamstress started cutting straight away with scissors before I could utter the words ‘how much will this cost?’. Snip snip snip. Little did I realise that snipping would also be the final finish too. I would have expected pinning and measuring from other seamstresses, and any delicate cutting to be carried out whilst not wearing it. The results can be seen in the pic. The other dress also wasn’t right either. They bright inner lining was too long and peaked out, but I should be pleased that it had actually been sewed though. My Tailor did fix the shorter dress so the lining did no longer peak out. However although they did ‘smooth out’ the finish of the longer dress, they did not sew it. It was just cut by scissors, and frayed(despite them telling me it wouldn’t) straight away on the first wear. When trying to get money back I was told this was«excellent service» and they only returned £12 of the £50 paid in total. A good place to go if you want a half arsed job and clothes coming back reeking of cigarettes. Do yourself a favour, use somewhere else.

My zipper on my winter jacket had broken and I needed a tailor to fix it. Alas, there was no reviews on either Unilocal or any of the other local review websites that could tell me where I should go… and so I asked the clerk in the local charity store, if she knew of any good tailors around here: and she did! And this is how I got introduce to my new tailor! Funny, that they are actually called«My Tailor»…and I really felt right at home and at ease with them when I entered the store. I loved seeing all the colourful fabric rolls; I loved watching the busy seamstress sewing on the machine in the window; and I also enjoyed watching the tailor take measurements of another customer. When it was my turn, I quickly explained my situation and the tailor promised me to have it done by the next day(for £20). I thus came back the next day and indeed was very happy with the result — they had chosen a zipper that matched the fabric of my jacket and all the seams were very tidy(as far as my eye could tell). I will definitely be back when I need something else to be tailored! Good job!
