If there was less than 1 star that would be my rating! I was in London with a large family group, we stumbled across Battersea square and like others have mentioned everywhere else had lots of people and this place had just a couple of diners, it seemed convenient as a large group to just go here as we could get seating; Big mistake!!! Firstly the service was terrible, there appeared to be just 1 waiter who was slow, stood around half the time and forgot half the orders, he also was rude, abrupt and appeared to only be able to carry minimals, the food was awful, it was overcooked with little to no flavour, greasy, the ingredients seemed cheaply bought, the wine vinegary and acidic. Lastly the bill arrived with no breakdowns of what we were being charged for, they had added on dishes that had not been ordered plus a service charge which we did not agree to! My words of advice to anyone contemplating eating here; AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!!!

First of all, this place shouldn’t be listed in Charing Cross, because it’s in Battersea Square. Second, it’s rubbish. Perhaps the rubbish bit should be first though. It’s that bad. But what’s worse is the 25-star reviews that someone has clearly been coerced into giving the restaurant to skew my review, and the comment below this review. It’s laughable. Overpriced, bad quality meat, badly cooked. The dishes don’t come with rice like they do in most Lebanese restaurants so you have to pay extra for that, and it’s not a nice place to be. I definitely won’t be going here again. If you’re trapped in Battersea Square go to the Italian restaurant across the road instead. If you have to have Lebanese food, go to Alounak in Bayswater or Al Arez in Marble Arch instead. If however, you choose to believe the 5 star reviews of this place that follow mine, go ahead and try it, come back and write your own review. At some point they won’t be able to keep posting fake reviews that bring the score up.

The location is OK, that’s if you really like sitting out on a traffic island or are an avid car spotter… I last visited this restaurant a year ago, with my aged parent. T0 be frank and honest it was crap. The wine was corked. I sent it back, to have it returned MICROWAVED, cos the waitress thought I had told her it was cold. The soup was a bowl of grease floating on water… And as for the whitebait. It arrived covered in pitta bread and was so off it was making its way to the bins on its own, when it got waylayed on to the plate. I refused to pay. We walked out.

Definitely agree with Tom E. that this place is sold on its location. I’d been past Battersea Square quite a few times, and the smells from Mazar made be finally make a reservation for a Saturday evening with my better half and couple of friends. We needn’t have booked, as we were the only table in the place. On a Saturday evening(even a cold, wet one, as this one was) it was suspicious we were the only diners. While they did have some authentic Lebanese dishes, the menu tries to appeal to all palates by offering a general swathe of Middle Eastern dishes; however, you sort of wish that they stuck to one area. Everything we had was alright — not bad, not great — and you get the feeling that if this place were busier, the atmosphere might make up for the same-y food on offer.

Mazar is all about location — a prime spot on Battersea Square for Parisian-style patio dining. Three waitresses in black tending to tables outside and in. The thought of Lebanese lunch in the summer sun was too much for us to resist and the square’s chairs drew us in like a tractor beam. So what do you crave when you see the word LEBANESE? Shawarma? Tabbouleh? Hummus? HALLOUMI !!!11!!! Yes, I love the salty chewy dry and squeaky cheese, and so does my sister. So in fits of glee we found both a halloumi and pear salad and a halloumi wrap. Halloumis for two. Verdict: BLEGH How can you screw up Halloumi? Soak it in cheap salad dressing and pair it with pears. The cheese is greatest dry and salty, not wet and sweety. Oooo NO Service was lousy, middle eastern guys were all smoking too much and being shouty and our crumby food cost a ridiculous amount for small low quality portions. How dare they screw up Halloumi!
