This man rocks my world. I’ve quite inadvertently started setting him challenges which have included: «Mark, I want a hare.» «Mark, I want a box full of angry crayfish» «Mark, I want something for dinner but I don’t know what. Be a good chap and get me something tasty?» «Mark, I want foie gras. Not cheap sh*tty stuff in a jar, I want big hunks of liver.» «Mark, I’m redecorating my flat and want some wine boxes because I’m a little bit boho and I can’t afford shelves at the moment because I spend all my money on foie gras.» He must hate me by now, but he always delivers(quite literally…) Plus the girls in the office all fancy him.

Following on from Alex’s fine review, not only will Mark get up at the crack of dawn so you don’t have to, not only will he deliver a hulking great crab, claws-a-waggling, he’ll even explain just how to store it in the fridge and kill it humanely and quickly before cooking the next day. And the beef cheeks were bloody marvellous too. Plus he smiles a lot, which is always a HUGE bonus in my book.

LOVE this dude. Seriously. London was crying out for something like this. Because really, we’re all lazy. We want the fresh seafood, but are we willing to get up at 3am for it? Nope. I live pretty near Billingsgate. Have done for about 8 years. I’ve been once. I went for an article I was writing and had a great time(met a fisherman who hated fish — go figure), but once was enough for me. I do not do well with 6am starts. And the last thing I feel like pre-coffee is buying seafood. But I like cooking. I like making tasty things. I like having fresh food that didn’t cost the earth in the supermarket(although my local fishmonger is also awesome). I basically want all the good stuff, delivered to my door. Marky Market does that. Not just to your door, but to your office too. I live so close to Billingsgate that I’d have had a very early wake-up call(Mark starts his day at 2:30 am — I’m not even asleep by then a lot of the time). So Qype laughed at me when I got half a kilo of samphire delivered to their office. I made tasty salads with crayfish for a party, everyone was impressed. Even shared some in the pub with some other Qypers. They were happy too. I’ll use Marky Market for any special occasion. If you don’t like early starts and you like tasty food, you should too.
