Lowlander Grand Cafe

Comfortable décor — mix between beer bar and restaurant.
Ordered the Venison Burger which was delicious which comes Medium-​Well but is nice.
Good service but was quiet though.

Working in the City and loving Belgian beer we used to go here a lot. It lost its appeal a bit I think. Their prices are pretty steep (~£5 for a bottle of Tripel Karmeliet when I can get it under £2 in Waitrose) and their food, whilst tasty, are served on the small side for sure.
We got on very well with a few of the staff (we were in there often enough!) but they all seem to have gone and now we don’t get the same service which is a pity. I’d echo the comments about the slow service but only when it’s full — most of the time we were served fairly rapidly and the beers were with us soon after.
I’d rather visit the Dovetail for a Belgian fix but it’s not walking distance away unfortunately.

Good beers, but slow service. Really good range of beers especially the wheat beers. It is a bit pricey. The problem is the service. You can not order a beer at the bar. The waiter will come to your table and take order and then deliver you drinks. Your first drink can take up to 25 minutes to arrive. Worth ordering your second as soon your first arrive. Once we order some some chips and it never arrived.
They need more staff to improve the service or let customers got the bar!

Tucked away in a side street nearby to the Gherkin, this is another moules/​steak-​frites desination. This is delivered in what most people would classify as a french brasserie format reminiscent of Café Rouge. Actually the name gives it away — its a Dutch Café and he food and drinks are representative of the low countries. So its a hotch-​potch of beers & brasserie/​café dishes such as steak, burgers & salads. Good range of blonde, trappist & fruit beers. They do snacks too in the form of the «croque» range of toasted sandwiches. Only really convenient if you’re in the area — it doesn’t get too busy so you can usually get a seat. Its on the good side of OK so great for a casual lunch or dinner with friends.
