Firstly, the portions here are huge. I ordered a Nasi Lemak(aka my favorite dish ever — and I actually mean this) and the kang kong belacan. The belacan was great — tasted the way it was supposed to, slightly spicy and crunchy. The Nasi Lemak was just pay; the curry chicken and peanuts were good, but the rest of the sides weren’t great. The ikan bilis didn’t have the same kick to it it normally should have, and yes, I get that it’s doused in sauce, but I’ve had others in the same dish and there was a crunchiness absent in this one. The(pickled?) veggie side also didn’t have the usual crunchiness to it. I’d say it’s a decent value for your money, considering the portion size, but food quality could be better. Service was excellent and very attentive, however!

The owner of this place owns a fair few other restaurants in China town, but this one would just come out as sort of average compared to the rest. I had the Singapore fried vermicelli which was pretty uninspiring. When asked whether I could change the soft drink from my lunch set to some sort of soup(like the standard soup that every restaurant would have prepared a huge batch of) I was told no, I had to stick strictly to the menu. It was cold outside and I really didn’t fancy cold soft drinks, although they did give me a room temperature soft drink(not sure whether to be happy that it’s warm, or be sad that I’m drinking warm coke?!) The service from waiters are otherwise really good. They would help put your luggage out of the way for you. They are pretty fast with service. It’s just a shame that the food is nothing special and if you just want to fill your belly with minimal fuss and at speed, you might want to consider coming here.

A rather new Malaysian restaurant located in China Town, most of the items are spicy, staying to the root of the proper Malaysian food culture. For starter, we went for the good old fashioned grilled satay chicken, great depth of flavours, but the meat was not as moist as I would like. My main of braised Hokkien mee had plenty of wok flavour, the gravy was perhaps a touch too thick, but the noodle itself was smooth and finely balance in taste. Overall, not the greatest Malaysian meal, but a pretty decent value for money eatery.

It’s not often a new malaysian restaurant opens in chinatown, so it’s kind of the occasion where every malaysian or persons with malaysian heritage will swarm to said restaurant like flies. I went in blind, not having read any prior reviews, and I must say was pretty disappointed. I must have walked into a different restaurant to everybody else or am juts missing something. We were greeted and seated quite quickly, and I was drawn straight away to the Nasi Lemak. I’ve not had a «great» one yet in the UK, though C&R Café nearby comes close. My mum ordered the Fried Kway Teow(A stir fried flat noodle dish with. So the Nasi Lemak arrives and it looks pretty sad. Cheap cuts of meat(pretty much bone) and not very well presented. Additionally the picture outside the restaurant stated it came with Acar(a spicy pickled salad) which appeared to be missing. Upon asking we were told that the picture is essentially just stock imagery. Well if that’s the case, then why does it state in the menu that Acar is part of the dish… they simply brushed it off and said the dish isn’t supposed to come with it. I’m not a fan of when restaurants falsely advertise. Most of the dish tasted okay, but the sambal was pretty awful. Just too sweet and sour for my liking. The curry sauce, well I’m trying to remember what it tasted like, but the only word that comes to mind is forgettable(Seriously I can’t remember how it tasted, let alone if it was spicy. Onto the Fried Kway Teow. This was booked better and was a decent portion, it came with chinese sausage, which was new and surprisingly good! It also came with LOTS of king prawns which was pretty decent. Taste wise, perfectly good. So it could have been the case that my dish was a fluke bad choice and whilst lacking Acar was close to authentic. So it didn’t help when somebody on the table in front ordered roti canai. Out comes essentially the frozen roti canai you can literally purchase from any chinese supermarket. Clearly identified by it’s signature round puffy uniform shape. I don’t know about anyone else, but personally serving frozen roti canai in a restaurant is a crime. Either do it properly, or don’t bother. The frozen stuff doesn’t come close. So in all, I’m pretty disappointed. It appears that the restaurant is happy to cut corners around a few dishes. If you don’t mind that, then go right ahead and give the place a try. Personally I wouldn’t go back myself.

I have been there twice. I had the prawn samba and lamb curry both generous portions and tasty. The staff are very clued up and professional and top up tea without prompting. I would like to see beef randeng and more classic dishes in the menu and pictures. The décor is modern. The place is tidy. it has potential. Next time I will try their lunch special.

First time eating here since its opening 2 months ago. Thought I’d try this for a change instead of the 2 usual Malaysian venues in the area. Had the satay which was very tender and the gado gado to start as an appetiser. The gado gado could have had some more life added to it– it was pretty simple. Didn’t think it was worth the price for what we got. Had the hokkien mee, Singapore laksa and malacca chicken rice for the main meal. Authentic taste for sure. Hokkien mee was missing ‘some’ flavour. The taste was there but very subtle. I wanna say it could do with more fried lard. Chicken rice was tender and delicious. The chicken arrived cold but the the meat was juicy and the chilli sauce accompanying the chicken was perfect. The rice brings back memories of chicken rice in malacca. Singapore laksa was very flavourful. The soup base was very creamy and there is definitely a nice spicy kick to it. The dish includes a good portion of a variety of ingredients that make it authentic — it’s not just noodles! I got the mix of the egg noodles and the vermicelli. Great service. They refilled the tea without prompting multiple times. Fast service.

Of course Yee Gan beats me to a review. That’s what I get for not reviewing immediately. I saw this place and brought the boy there to try out out. We got the tauhu to start, then had the kangkung and Singapore laksa. While we were waiting for the food, they came around to tell us it was last orders. Based on the waiter’s estimate of the laksa bowl, we also ordered the wat tan ho. WELL. The laksa was bigger than expected, so we didn’t even touch the wat tan ho and just brought it home. All the food was excellent(authentically spicy!), definitely my new go to place for Singaporean and Malaysian food, albeit just a little pricier than I’d prefer. The menu still seems to be scaling up. I originally wanted the rojak, but they said they didn’t have it yet. I think the drinks menu is a little lacking. I got the lime soda, hoping it would be like a lime juice, but was in fact a fizzy drink. Would love them to add chin chow!

Found this restaurant after checking Unilocal for Malaysian and Singaporean food in London. My husband had the Singapore Laksa which was excellent. Very flavorful soup, good size portions, generous servings of shrimp, fish balls and fish cake. I had the Nasi Lemak which was also excellent especially the sambal. Would definitely recommend and will return on our next trip to London.

The green sign on Chinatown’s Gerrard Street caught my eye. Little Penang, it said. My heart skipped a beat. A new Malaysian restaurant is always a welcome sight The smiley Malaysian waitress had a Malaysian accent and most importantly, she confirmed the chef was from Malaysia. Their generous lunchtime deal of a main course and a drink for £6.50 sealed the deal I brought my sister with me so that I could try more dishes. We chose some classic hawker(street food) dishes — char koay teow(fried road rice sticks), hokkien noodles and oyster omelette We were also pleasantly surprised when our orange cranberry drink turned out to be a sour plan juice, Malaysian classic The food was good, very good in the case of the hokkien noodles and oyster omelette. The char koay teow had a little burnt flavour to it Lots of Malaysians in the restaurant today and I will be back to try more dishes
