Limoo(formerly Zaytoon) is an excellent advert for North End Road’s diverse, warm community offering up top value, interesting fare. In this case, Persian cuisine. I’m certainly no expert on Persian cuisine, but I can spot incredible value, which the food here most certainly is. A basket of freshly baked unleavened bread? £1. Any main, served with a generous proportion of rice? £7. The starters, cold or warm? £3. The value is the main draw, but the food is good too, particularly the use of aubergine in the starters and lamb in the mains. Seriously though, with value this good you might as well give it all a try. I went for a doogh — a rather salty yogurt drink. I’m glad I tried it, but I’d probably go for something else next time. There’s a very friendly atmosphere in the restaurant, made clearest by the service. On the walls were large flatscreen TVs showing endless love songs by mostly male singers apparently lamenting loves lost — think flashbacks of picnics with their ladies, cutting to them now staring into the middle distance across rooftops, or leaning against doorways in the rain while letting it all out. It all makes me think that this place could be ideal for a date — cheap, unusual, very friendly and with entertainment on offer to bond new couples. In all, really really good. Yet more evidence of how underrated this area(Barons Court) appears to be.
