Good spot for a rendezvous with tiny café tables and urban ambience as Sanjay and I watched the commuters emerging from and disappearing into the underground. Completely enjoyed a fresh glass of juice and a lovely tower of exquisitely thin pumpernickel, smushed avocado that looked like mushy peas according to our dear friend, Rachel, watercress, and an expertly prepared poached egg. Yummmm… Sanjay had the cappuccino and a sweet which he enjoyed. Creative menu with attention to detail. Sorry to be indelicate but did I mention the heated seats in the loo?

A restaurant situated in the new ‘Vertical City’ area London Bridge quarter. Lovely venue with gorgeous ceiling length windows. Lost of light and a pleasant dining experience watching people going up and down the elevators. I took a fearful walk to the Lang swing doors as everything looked so expensive — I was quite sceptical. After a brief look at the menu, it seemed quite reasonable compared to other local competitors. The one thing that let down my experience was its portion sizes. I ordered a ‘caesar salad with bacon, anchovies(which comes with sour dough bread) — it was delicious, however, I literally received a handful of shredded lettuce, a single anchovy and one strip of dried bacon, not to mention a few sprinkles of Parmesan. The sour dough bread was very hard and small, and came with a round block of butter nearly the same size as the salad! Very bizarre! At a price of £6.60, I was expecting something a lot more filling. The salad filled a left corner of the fancy A4 takeaway box and was then presented in a bag large enough for a new pair of boxed shoes. It was quite ridiculous. This salad seems to be something you would eat as a side dish as opposed to a stand alone meal. Unfortunately I felt so hungry afterwards that I went to Marks and Spencer and bought more food. I would suggest setting yourself a budget of £20 for being full or just simply having a cake and coffee!

Expensive, but nice I tried Lang out on a Monday afternoon. I was passing with my mother and we were looking for a coffee and perhaps some lunch. We walked in and admired the absolutely beautiful sweet creations in the counter, then took our seats at a table by the window. It’s quite a small place and the tables are pretty small too — meaning that tables of four have to gather slightly awkwardly round two small round tables. We ordered english breakfast tea and a latte along with a ham, cheese and heritage tomato sandwich on sourdough toast and a tune mayonnaise and cucumber on brown bread. The tea was excellent and the coffee equally lovely. They did come in odd containers — the teapot was metal(i always manage to burn myself on metal teapots) and the latte came in a thermos plastic cup. They both seemed to work ok though! The sandwiches were very nice, although a little small and not particularly filling for the price. The cakes looked amazing, but we were not quite tempted enough. The service was very pleasant — not too cloying but not terribly warm either. It would make a nice spot to have a coffee and a cake in the afternoon, as a treat.
