What a great local find. Portions here are huuuuge which makes it good value for money. We shared 6 tapas dishes between the 2 of us ranging from £5-£7 and struggled to get through them all. My favourite was the garlic prawns which were pre peeled thank god. There were only 2 other tables when we came in for Saturday lunch so the atmosphere was a bit flat but they had some great Spanish tunes blaring out. Will definitely be back when my Spanish cravings hit!

This was one of the best dinners we’ve had in ages! What a gem! Absolutely worth going out of the way for. Four of us came for dinner on a Friday night without a reservation, but we were able to get a table straight away even though the place was fairly busy. Very friendly Spanish staff, and a warm and inviting atmosphere. I think we ordered about 12 things, as well as a carafe of wine for my friend and I to share while the boys had beers. It’s very nice to have the option of a carafe, instead of just glass vs. bottle. As we enjoyed our drinks, the food started coming in waves. We started with some olives and pan with ali-oli, a baguette with garlic mayo. We had to ask more of the bread and aioli, since it was so good and went with everything! Well, the bread is just normal, but the aioli is fabulous! We got a few of the specials, which aren’t all on the online website. I know we loved the black pudding dish, which I thought sounded unappetizing but it was amazing. The scallops with chorizo and red peppers were also fabulous! The spinach and chickpea stew was very good, and the grilled asparagus with manchego was surprisingly lovely for such a simple dish — but manchego cheese makes everything better! The meatballs and lamb casserole were both great, and the wild rabbit was a surprise hit — so tender! I know we got at least one seafood, but can’t remember what it was! I think we got like 4 things that I haven’t mentioned here, but it’s hard to remember! What I do remember is that this was the best tapas restaurant I have ever been to. Absolutely everything we ate was fantastic. There wasn’t a single dish where I thought«hmm, that could have been better.» Everything was not only good, but great. Everyone felt the same way, and we all happily stuffed ourselves afterwards! The desserts made me so happy too, because they had churros! Not something I find easily in the UK, so I was thrilled to have some of those hot, sweet, crispy fried pastries with sugar and rich chocolate sauce. So divine. It’s actually quite well-priced for what you get, and if you come with a bunch of people that means you get to try more things! I think the next time we visit our friends, I’m going to insist that we come back. My fiancé and I are still talking about a few days later, just saying to each other, «Hey, wasn’t that dinner on Friday amazing??» So memorable, and such a lovely surprise. It is different than any other tapas place I’ve visited, with surprising flavors and real skill going into every dish.

This is an extremely pleasant Spanish restaurant. I have not eaten much spanish food in london, so I can’t say whether it is the best or the worst spanish restaurant in London. However, this place stands up nicely to many of the highly regarded tapas bars in Barcelona. Tapas places are half raw ingredients served straight up(hams, cheeses, olives, wines) and half more elaborate preparations from the kitchen. We had some of both. They serve a first rate serrano ham, have great olives and a wonderful list of challenging sherries (none of the dreadful stuff english dons used to serve at academic receptions). Vegetable dishes are first rate(eggplant with honey and asparagus with cheese) — each vegetable cooked to perfect al dente with a lot of flavor. Spaniards will argue about whether eggplant and honey should be sliced or cubed — but I will leave that to them to fight about. La Bota’s sliced eggplant is quite fine, thank you. A padron pepper served with codfish was hearty satisfying fare — after it received some assistance from the salt cellar. Desserts were a boring unless you like that sort of thing almond torta — and a SPECTACULAR chocolate fondant. Intentionally undersweetened — rich with several textures of chocolate in different stages of solidity and melt — and absolutely redolent with chocolate rather than sugar flavor — this was a definite winner. And there was vanilla ice cream on the side to stoke your sugar input and to cut the extreme richness of the fondant. (This was one intense dessert — and the ice cream spacer was welcome.) Good ham, good olives, good sherry, good cooked dishes, good desserts, a nice room and the owners are nice people. There may be some magnificent temple of Spanish excellence somewhere in London that I haven’t discovered yet … but for now I am quite happy with La Bota … thank you very much.
