The Tulse Hill end of West Norwood has been crying out for a decent pub, and hallelujah we’ve got it in the shape of Knowles of Norwood. The décor is rough and ready, with nods to the building’s previous incarnation as a hardware store, with buckets etc hanging from the ceiling and the original safe still in the middle of the room. The bar is great, curving round one corner with mismatched lights hanging over it. Great wine selection at reasonable prices, and I’m told the beers are good too! The kitchen isn’t open yet, but there was a pop up hot dog offering that was great when we visited. Yes there are kinks that need ironing out, like the main doors that don’t like to stay shut so the poor man at the table by the door kept having to get up to close them on a blustery Sunday, and I’ve yet to sample their food offering, but I love it already. It’s a local pub with friendly staff, charm and that greatest of things, potential!
