Our guests are still raving about the BRILLIANT meal Chef Johansson cooked in our home. His fine touch and attention to detail made every course a brilliant success. To make sure that the fish stew and cerviche contained nothing but the freshest fruits of the sea, Chef Johansson chartered a fishing boat and caught them himself. The produce came from proper purveyors of vegetables farmed organically and in a way to sustain future yields. The heirloom tomato and feta cheese salad, with balsamic dressing, was brilliant. Local wines were generously poured. The desert of locally sourced cookies and ice creams ended a brilliant meal.

We went to Johannsons for brunch on a Saturday morning and it was fabulous. Lovely friendly staff, great relaxed atmosphere in a light and airy room, with seating indoors and out, with charming tables and chairs and art on the walls. then we got down to the serious business of brunch! it was divine, scrambled eggs and bacon and they were deliciously cooked and well priced and we could(if we wanted to) help ourselves to toast which I loved as I am kinda fussy about my toast! The coffee was to die for and it was a lovely treat and certainly a refreshing change to the over-priced breakfasts I have had in East Dulwich which is down the road! Lovely — I found the staff to be friendly and it was very busy but they did a good job and so I would recommend this place!

In response to the first review about bad service — I think I know who you mean, and I haven’t seen her there for a while. Seymour’s/ johanson’s is one of my favourite places to get coffee/breakfast/free wifi/meet friends/read the paper/catch up on work/listen to whatever they’ve chosen on spotify that day etc. It’s just a great place, and I wouldn’t want one bad waitress to spoil their reputation. Give it another go!

Having moved to south east london from south west 15 years ago, before the refreshing seacow east dulwich, before the un touchable Franklins, before the warm cosy Jacks Lordship Lane– There were 3 standout places, Blue Mountain North Cross rd, Free Range Lordship Lane(sadly now café noodle) and Seymour Bros Camberwell. The latter had a very definite place in my heart– its rustic feel, easy service and the essence of the art school permeating throughout. And best of all the rolls, oh the rolls, unique to Seymour Bros, certainly within the eateries i frequent. I write this with heavy heart but seeing as its the 3rd time its happened i think its become form and not a one off. The young mediterranean woman, thats how her colleague described her, wherever she hails from, her attitude stinks. I was barked at today, for the 3rd time in 3 visits. why? i didnt hear what she said. She never says please, she never says thank you and if you ask for something they dont have, woe betide you. I persevered for the sake of the rolls– sadly they’re just not that good. Adiós Seymor Bros

I have been frequenting this café in its previous incarnation as Seymour Bros for years, and was horrified when it closed for refurbishment, imaging all sorts of yuppified and bland décor. Luckily, and to my absolute joy, it has remained almost unchanged except for a new jazzed up deli counter — huge sigh of relief! The café is situated across the ground floor of a converted house at the bottom of Camberwell’s beautiful Grove Lane. There are wooden floors throughout and mismatched wooden tables, chairs and lamps. In the middle room, there’s an open fire that’s perfect on a cold winter’s day. In the summer, there is a beautiful outdoor area reminiscent of the secret garden with overgrown tress, hanging vines and rickety garden furniture. The menu has a varied selection of sandwiches, available on a selection of different breads, and there is a daily hot special. Breakfast is also available all day, and I am particularly fond of the cinnamon ciabatta. For a sandwich, the brie and apple or cambozola and red pepper are my undisputed favourites. Lately I had a yellow pepper soup there, which was surprisingly excellent. The cakes are another strong point with an ever-changing selection of homemade beauties including cheesecakes and brownies. As you can see I am a massive fan of this place and hope that it stays the same for as long as possible. At the moment, it becomes a thai restaurant in the evening, but that is going to move to Bellenden road in Peckham very shortly. Judging by the new sign saying wine bar above the door, I guess that will be it’s future. I’ll add more once that happens!

I am a huge fan of cafes and restaurants which feel as though you could just be in someone’s house. Johansen’s does this perfectly. A series of connected and rooms and outdoor patio all decorated in a clean but un-uniformed way give this café/restaurant/wine bar a unique and personable character. They do offer a take away service, but I love finding a table(outside if weather permits) reading a magazine or sat working on my laptop, while ordering cappuccinos and a prawn and avacado sandwich. The food is great, with a wholesome menu of sandwiches and main dishes during the day while from 6pm onwards they switch to a Thai menu in the restaurant. Each room effortlessly tries to be nothing more than a relaxing and inviting space, the perfect place to come by yourself or for a quiet and intimate lunch.

This café in the day(which is alright) becomes the most amazing thai restaurant in the evening, and is definately on my top five list of places to visit in the area. The food was the best thai food I’ve eaten out of Thailand and was served fresh out the kitchen by the cook herself. A very intimate, candle-lit place with simple, unique furniture. The service was very good and the prices are middle-of-the-range, but definately not overpriced. If you like thai food you’ll find some of your favourites on this menu.

Very good and cheap Thai meals in the evening. The café/restaurant is lovely and fun, the food fresh and tasty. Best of all it is BYOB with a small corkage fee(£2 I think). They are not licensed so make sure you pickup a nice bottle of wine on the way.
