One of the nicest book stores. I’ve never seen the point in buying newly printed books, when you can either exchange books with friends or buy a second hand one. Hurlingham Books offers used books in excellent condition at very reasonable prices. The owner is a very nice guy and is always ready to help you so feel free to ask for a certain book or just exchange a few words and get to know each other so he can recommend you a nice book.

This is one of those places that we have to be thankful exists in this day and age, of iPads and kindle. Stacked wall to wall with all manner of books you can simply loose yourself as you meander through the eclectic but extensive collection of books, if simply for the way old books smell this place deserves 5 stars!

A real treasure trove for book lovers! This second hand bookshop has a huge range of different books at very reasonable prices. It’s tiny and absolutely crammed with books in no order that I could see, but this just adds to the charm as you never know what new read you’re going to stumble across. The owner was very friendly and welcoming, and claims that he can find almost any book — so if there’s a certain novel you’re looking for, call in! The bookshop is easy to find, close to Putney Bridge station and if you like books, I’d recommend you visit as soon as you can!

It’s just by Putney Bridge tube this one and it’s got a really lovely old fashioned exterior. This window display is the rows of books cramped together on the inside and it’s pretty obvious this is one of those buying and selling second hand book shops that require patience and a little bit of time dedicate to the search. I love these kind of places anyway and I especially like them as an antidote to Waterstones, WH Smith and all those. The stories have stories somewhere like this and they’ve got the coffee and tear stains to show for it. And for all that compromise there is a significantly reduced price, especially if you have a look on the shelves outside you can get some really good bargains. Especially, worthwhile considering how many books you just read once and never really look at again.

A very small and very old-fashioned looking second-hand bookshop just around the corner from Putney Bridge underground station. It has a large stock and wide variety of fiction titles, both by style and by date — some interesting pre-war items mixed in with more recent titles — and a rather smaller range of non-fiction titles as well. However, this shop is just the front for a large selection of stock in the nearby warehouse, where owner Ray has a huge stock. If you are after something specific, the best thing is to ask. Perfect for bookworms — or to stock up with holiday reading before you go off on your annual break.
