Great salad options — their chicken and quinoa salad is healthy yet tasty. A bit on the pricey side for the sizes of the portions but totes worth it

Hummus Bros is OK, but it’s not exactly a revelation. It’s the kind of thing where if I really wanted hummus, I would get it, but every time would be slightly peeved that I didn’t just buy some in the supermarket or make my own, assemble the same dish, and get the same amount of satisfaction for literally a fifth of the price. The hummus isn’t the best hummus ever — the stuff from the meze stall on the market is better in my opinion, because it’s a little coarser, how I like it — and the chicken is just chicken stew, although it is quite moist. The smoked aubergine is smokey but not terribly aubergine-y. The carrot sticks are a bit anaemic — cut up the day(s) before perhaps. Portion sizes vary pretty wildly: I’d like more chicken. I like the touch of paprika and tahini they splodge on at the end though. It’s an OK lunch, filling and(possibly) healthy, but it won’t change your life. Or even your hummus preferences. I only ventured here because working almost on top of Exmouth market, I’ve tried every stall and wanted something new… if you haven’t yet(and it’s not snowing or something that precludes outside dining), go there instead.

Sorry, but I’m not sorry for dropping this 1-star review. I checked the opening hours(Sunday) — BOTH on Unilocal and on the website. I’ve visited this location before and was looking to grab a late-ish lunch and eat in the park. Typically you’d think a chain should have fairly standard hours. It said they closed at 5pm. I showed up at 430, there were many people eating on the patio, the chalkboard still out and door wide open. I walked in. …and they told me they were closed. At 430pm? What an odd time to close. Then I just felt ticked off that I’d made the journey and these slackers wanted to close early and be ready to jet at exactly 5pm. Unacceptable. I will not return.

The idea is good but the execution is poor. The hummus doesn’t taste like real hummus. You can buy the same thing in a supermarket. Nevertheless, you can choose sides to go with it and they are usually not bad. The bread is bad — tastes like it’s been microwaved. The service is terrible. I went there 15 minutes before the close of the kitchen(like 9pm), and I asked the waiter if it was fine if we sat down. He said yes, and he did not come to take our order… And then the kitchen closed so we had to leave. Similarly, the couple sitting next to us had waited 30 minutes and left because no one came to take their order.

Great hummus for sure and the variety of toppings you can choose is extensive(my personal favourite is the beef + guacamole). They use wholemeal pita bread and they toast it for you so it is nice and warm. On the side you can ask for chilli sauce for no extra cost. Maybe the only down point is the takeaway size … The small is not always enough … especially for a hungry guy and the large one is on the expensive side for a lunch take away. Also the size of the portions do change significantly sometimes depending on who is serving you. All in all very good quality food! :)

Damn good service and damn good hummus too. The pita bread is warm and fluffy, the hummus is super smooth(heavy on the tahini, like it should be!), a bit of zing(with extra lemon juice at the table for your discretion), spicy(if you ask for the green chili sauce on the side) and downright flavorful. I had a bowl with half mushrooms, half chunky salad(sweet ripe cherry tomatoes, quartered fresh cucumbers and some crunchy peppers) on top. Everything was so fresh and bright. As I was finishing up they brought over a mini fresh mint tea and then, when I got the bill, along with it came a mini baklava. Not sure if this is typical, one thing I do know: it was delightful.
