I love Holy Cow for the quality of their food, even if a little pricy but really, having to wait 1hour 40 mins after numerous calls for delivery which I was more than patent is not cool(I would of liked them picking up the phone and letting me know of the wait) Then when it did arrive some of the order was missing to then be further told it may be a while till we get it which I said was fine. To then after another hour calling and asking where it was them saying they were now closed to which is when was the first time I said this was not on. I would love to sing their praises but this experience was a total let down, guys sort it out, if your gonna make people wait let them know, & saying ‘we can give it to you on the next delivery’ is not a solution.

It’s Sunday night and I have a mountain of things to do before work tomorrow. My favourite Islington indian takeaway(reviewed here too!) was warning of 1.5hr waits, so it’s time to find somewhere else. I remember walking past Holy Cow, so I give them a try. Wish I hadn’t! This is pretty bland stuff, no real spicing going on, no depth of flavour to speak of. Just tomatoey vaguely indiany. Very disappointing. But it came quickly!

Oh Sacred Bovine! This pious bison has got themselves a trendy(graphic) branding and I don’t mean via the application of a red-hot iron poker… Have you seen the packaging? Had my curries delivered last week in a fancy cardboard box resembling somewhat of an oversized milk carton, to unfold with separate compartments including a clever roti pocket. So envious product designers, if that isn’t enough to entice thee, the food itself is pretty damn good. I think their ‘philosophy’ goes on about using all fresh ingredients and all that. Great. Quite a fan of the ‘machchli malekhu’ which is a cod curry with tamarind sauce, the spinach paneer is tasty and I can never remember which chicken one I get but that’s good too… The guys who run the place are so friendly and accommodating, they offer a ‘design your own curry’ service too if you want it spicier, creamier, more veg etc so get involved!

On a mission to find the best Indian Take away(in my area) we tried Holy Cow. Much PR and reviews and photos on the website. Ordering was easy. Food came in 45 minutes as specified. Foodwise it was OK. Nothing special, no surprises good or bad with meat cubed in regular sized chunks, everything uniform. A bit like something from a production line. Dahl a bit bland too. I don’t mean it wasn’t spicy, it was just one dimensional. A-OK sums it up. I imagine it would be exactly the same next time(a bit like McDonalds).

Holy freakin’ Cow! This place has become a firm favourite of mine. Not a restaurant, but merely a take-away. Still, there’s nothing wrong with eating an Indian meal at home is there? As it happens, I’m not sure I can think of a better way to eat. Hooray for Holy Cow and their endeavors to satisfy us with what I’ve just decided is the greatest way to eat — fact! Anyway, the reason for the 5 star rating of this place is simple: the food is amazing. The menu is a little less extensive than many other take-aways but there’s still choice enough for whatever sort of meal may desire. Contrary to previous reviews suggesting the food may be «bland», I’d like to correct this woeful inaccuracy. The food here is some of the most flavoursome Indian food I’ve had. The sauces are thicker and fuller with ingredients and there are also some meals a little higher up on the Scoville scale. Bland, it is not. Many of the meals, however are not particularly hot and as I quite often dine with a couple of people who don’t like hot curries it’s a little safer to order here. Now, I am a gent who does like to burn his tongue with Chillies and if I’m not sure one of the menu choices will suffice the solution is clear: I ask for extra chillies. Ta-daa! Problem solved. In fact, Holy Cow will accommodate any reasonable request one wishes to make providing they have the resources. Difficult to criticise people who make the effort to please. Despite them telling you when you order that delivery may take up to 45 minutes I’ve yet to wait that long as it’s usually at my door within half an hour(but I do live quite close). That’s enough words of praise from me, I’ve successfully converted others to Holy Cow — NOWYOUWILLDOTHESAME! TTFN, Ian

Quick yummy delivery when you’re craving Indian food. The variety is pretty good and you get to taste different dishes apart from the usual Chicken Tikka. I highly recommend Paneer Nawabi(tandoori paneer in a tangy sauce) and Chicken Jaisalmer. I agree with the review below about the food being bland — so do ask for a bit of spice when you place the order ;-)

Ugh! This place is so overrated! I was really excited to try it — great business name, attractive menu, easy to order but it was really the most bland Indian food I’ve ever had. We ordered a variety of different dishes and NOTHING had any flavour. Even the dish that was meant to be super spicy was just incredibly mild and very bland. Boring!

Ordered from here twice now, very good both times, had chicken dansak dish first time and the cod dish the second. Really freshly cooked and not greasy like most takeaway curries. Delivery was pretty quick and efficient Would be good if they provided onion mix with the poppadoms free though

Was awful. Decided to try because it was rainy and they had put a decently designed pamphlet through the door. Food took an hour and 20 minutes andwas in no way warm. Had to microwave everything and put the limp naan bread under the grill. There was very little taste and weirdly no sauce. I’ve never had a curry with big hunks of overcooked meet and no sauce to speak of. Even the sag paneer was dry, which I didn’t even think was possible. Had about four bites and just threw it out, it was that inedible.
