Agree with other negative honest reviews. Minimum of £8 per person is posted all over the store. They emphasized this repeatedly until you’re tired of it. In addition to the posted signs – there’s purportedly a £6 per person!!! Westerners: go somewhere else. You’re not welcome here. We walked out. Rude staff.

HK Diner is a popular canteen in China Town, open till late serving simple Cantonese«fast food». Dishes such as baked pork chop rice and«boat congee» are some of the most loved comfort Cantonese items so you can always see the place is packed with Chinese students thanks to its cheap price, but be aware the service is pretty awful like most other venues in China Town. I would suggest the baked pork chop with spicy pepper as the robust savoury aroma is just so inviting with just a hint of smoky element from the baking process.

Our family of 5 had lunch here yesterday. Happy with the noodles(white broad noodle aka Ho Fan), the beef brisket, the duck, BBQ Pork. So all of us agreed to go back for dinner today — our last night of vacation in London. And to our pleasant surprise, the noodles and beef brisket(with tendon) are even better! Other dishes are also good. Great farewell dinner!

Such rude staff! In a restaurant that wasn’t very busy, we came in at around 10pm for a quick dessert just to satisfy our sweet tooth. They said we had to order minimum £10 per person if we were only getting dessert. Desserts were approximately £4 each so it didn’t make much sense from our point of view. It seemed quite silly that they didn’t take into account the situation(that the restaurant wasn’t very busy at all) before deciding they rather take £0 than our £4. Very disappointing especially since the menu looked like it had so much promise to be my London go-to«cha chang teng»(Chinese tea house for simple, satisfying meals).

Plats corrects, gras… Mais alors service CATASTROPHIQUE, DESASTREUX et PITOYABLE: pas un bonjour, ni un regard, ni un au revoir. Complètement désagréable… Vraiment vraiment HORRIBLE!

I would definitely go back here. A short wait for a table but worth it as there is so much to choose from. We went with one of the set menus for 5 people and there was so much food. We ended up having to take some home. Really, really tasty and great value for money. Excellent night. Can’t wait to go back :)

I popped in here a few weeks ago… It was pretty good! The service was a — ok, but the food was great and the bill was lower than I expected. It was no frills, quick food, a nice atmosphere and an all round good experience. I had the Singapore noodles which wasn’t the greatest I’d ever had but was still really good

Had a horrible experience here last night — came in at around 3am for some chinese food to cap off our night but left more than unsatisfied. I tried the shredded roast duck, which was dry and unappetizing as it looked. There was no flavor and the pancakes that came with it were also very floury and did not compliment the duck at all. They also charged us £5.50 for 4 potstickers which equals $ 8.47, so more than $ 2 per dumpling… bad late night decision there lol. As we were finishing, the owner started lecturing a new server who seem to have made an order mistake, causing the other waiters to stare on as we waited for the bill. The owner was also throwing f-bombs around, which I saw as very unprofessional. So for their over-charged, underwhelming food and unprofessional behavior, I give them one star, and highly suggest everyone to go else place!

Always consistent crispy egg noodle. American east coast chow mein. This is always a stop everytime I go to London, the crispy noodles with seafood. Exactly what I want crispy noodles with seafood with crisp vegetables and seafood. For this dish alone I give 5 stars, but service«for the area» is great to boot. One of the places I ALWAYS visit for value, taste and money. Well worth out of your travels for this one dish!

Hubby and I shared a classic Hong Kong style milk tea with tapioca balls — it was incredible. The drink itself was fragrant and wasn’t too sweet, the real deal. Even though the egg noodles with wonton and BBQ pork was average, I would personally come back for the milk tea.

One of the worse Chinese restaurant. Food is either too salty or under cooked. Don’t waste your stomach space and money in this place.

It is absolutely one of the worse Chinese restaurant in the world. Here are the food that we have ordered: 1. Fujian fried rice. It was extremely salty that no one can eat. 2. Beef chow fun. The rice noodle was not thoroughly stirred and cooked. The taste is plain(no wok taste at all). 3. Pork and century egg porridge. The pork was salty. The porridge was too thick. It was the best dish of the all the dishes. Finally, we ordered milk tea. It was bad(no tea taste and too water down). Avoid this place at all cost. You can have much better Chinese food at 文興 (Four Seasons?), just across this horrible restaurant.

Really good authentic HK food. Service is just like being back in China(so possibly not up to most people’s standards) but it did make me very nostaligic for when I lived in HK.

The food here is good. It’s not great by any means. And like everything else in London, it’s quite expensive, especially for Chinese fare. So why the two stars? The service here is atrocious. The staff was perfectly kind to the couple at the adjacent table, but they were quite rude to us; before any one points out my overt American nature, this was before we had said a word aside from responding«two» when they asked how many were in our party. When the server came up to take our order, he said nothing and just stood there with a pen and pad. The only time he showed anything remotely resembling cordiality was when we made eye contact when another table was berating him with f-bombs. The chicken with black bean sauce was tiny and cost 9 pounds. Maybe the chicken was supposed to do a song and dance before consumption? The crispy noodle with shredded beef was good, not as rich as what I’m used to. The fried rice with prawns was standard, but the prawns were huge so I guess that’s a plus. The only reason why I’m giving this two stars is because it was the cheapest meal we had in London.

HK Diner… the restaurant that never seems to close. Well, I say never, it’s open until some ridiculous time like 4am. It’s not amazing, but it rarely has a queue, is reasonably priced and the food is pretty good. They have a decent selection of dishes and although not a go-to place for Chinese food(especially not in Chinatown) it is comforting to know it’s there, especially when it’s late and the available options are getting thin on the ground!

The staff here are just dire. If you think Wong Kei are bad, these is a level above. We headed here after a late dinner(11pm) and this being the only place that was still open for bubble tea, we gave it a shot. We arrived, and were seated, however upon finding out that we just wanted bubble tea, we were promptled shooed out and told we could only order that to take away. I would have accepted that, were it not for the fact the place was literally empty, with only 5 – 6 people eating in there and around 6 tables clearly free with it unlikely the place was going to get busy any time soon. This said the bubble tea was good, and on a previous visit the food also well done. The duck here served on the bone, with a request for it to be taken off likely to be met with mocking derision. The fried chilli squid was also quite good. Crispy, chewy and loads of chopped chilli and onion. Note something that came as a bombshell is that they have two menus here. Food wise they’re pretty much exactly the same. One in chinese, the other in English. Get this, all the items on the chinese menu are slightly cheaper. I’m not clear if this is actually legal, but that’s how it is. So perhaps find a chinese reader the group. Otherwise I’m pretty sure as an english only speaker you won’t be restricted from ordering from the chinese menu, but you might not know what you’re getting! Will I be back? Probably, but only if I’m in the area craving chinese food or late night bubble tea, because this is the only place in chinatown open till the early hours.

We told ourselves that we wouldn’t try any Chinese food on our visit to London. But after watching a show at the Gilgaud, we were hungry and wandered into Chinatown. Being afficianados of Hong Kong-style diners from back home, we were intrigued by this place. Since we were hungry, we went for it, even knowing that the prices were more than twice what we would pay for back home. I ordered the Singapore-style rice vermicelli and the wife had the beef and rice noodle stir fry. Both were okay. The portions were a bit on the small side(we had conflicting expectations, since we knew portions are smaller here, but always expect a nice heap of noodles at a place that bills itself as an HK-style diner) and the vermicelli wasn’t very spicy. The rice noodles were a bit bland. I guess I would conclude that it is a novel place to go after a show. Next time we’re hungry after the theater, I suppose we’ll come back.

I went to HK Diner on a friend’s recommendation. It’s located just off Leicester Square which and since it’s not on the main China Town street I’d assume it gets a lot of its custom based on reputation. I’d describe it a typically Hong Kong — fast and tasty. Portions are generous — you’ll only need one portion of rice for two people. My party of 6 shared a selection of dishes including the crispy duck pancakes, BBQ pork, salt & pepper squid and pak choi. Coupled with some spring rolls and dumplings we all left full. So why only a three star rating? While I was happy with the meal, I wouldn’t describe it as anything out of the ordinary. Would I go there again, probably yes. But I’d be equally likely to try out the place next door.

A few local ladies of Asian descent I randomly ran into recommended me to come here for real Hong Kong style cheap and cheery meals: noodle soups and rice dishes. So I figured why not down my last noodle soup before I head to a land that finds this scarce. 3 stars for an okay meal and so so service: — The roast pork(sorry Piglet) and wonton noodle soup broth was ok. Served hot. Cost 8.30 pounds. Not too shabby. — Egg noodles were perfectly cooked — drained quickly in hot water for 30 seconds. — Wontons were okay. Consisted of cut up pork and a tad bit of shrimp. Why is it not ground pork? Is this cut up pork leftovers? I am always on the suspicion. Call me paranoid. — Roast pork was fatty and so-so. Color was light red, not the dark ones I see in other photos. Definitely average, more on the bland side. Nothing to die for or go out of your way for, but if you were tight of time you wouldn’t refuse it and eat it. However the portion was generous for a Chinese restaurant in London. I’d rather have quality over quantity, anyday. — I also noticed, oddly the noodle soup and rice dishes are only available in the Chinese language menu. The stuff in the English menu are main courses, suitable for family style dinners. If you can’t read Chinese, don’t despair. Order the noodle soup or rice dish you want(i.e. wonton noodle) and it’ll be ok. They speak English! ;-) Though I am still against this practice. Feels like they are trying to charge the non-natives more. — They sat me down in the first seat facing the door. Mind you it was freezing cold in the dead of winter. I asked if there is any other seats. They all looked as if it was going to be difficult to find one. Then I walked to the proper dining area and saw it was empty. Ridiculous. I told them I won’t be long as I am rushing to the airport and after asking a few times, they reluctantly let in to seat me in an empty room. I suspect they tried placing me in a seat directly in front of the door so it would look like people are eating there, but don’t use me as your pawn to get more business — especially sacrificing my health on a windy cold day. — I believe there are better tasting places that won’t seat you in front of a door even when it’s empty, and so will try other places than coming back here.
