I’ve been past this place on the bus several times, and always wanted to try it because the seating looked interesting(and it’s sushi of course). The first thing you notice is that there aren’t really any seats, the floor is raised, and the tables are mounted on a pole in the middle of a square hole! It’s a bit weird as the waitresses tower above you when coming to see to you. They do have an all you can eat option, but we chose a light lunch and only chose a couple of things each. I went for the«Rock & Roll» sushi rolls which were tempura prawn, avocado, and salmon, and the tempura eggplant(aubergine). Erica chose the tuna sashimi and a crab hand roll, and between us we had some chicken goyza. The food was all delicious, and presentation was nice too. All in all, a great little sushi restaurant, and I’m sure we’ll be heading back there again!

I have been a customer for a few years here and never experienced such hostility as I did today. Our bill was 99£ but because their card machine was not working they gave us a discount of 9£-Before that I asked to take away some sushi left over, she approved it– Then I asked to take the optional service charge out and gave here 2£ as a tip. When she realised that I didn’t give her the optional service charge, things got ugly. «But I even let u take away(left overs)» so in her way of thinking that’s worth 9£!!! I asked if that means that we can’t take out the optional S.C. She didn’t understand it really. She was very very displeased and she didn’t even try to hide it. I then put the take away on the table and asked her to pls return the 2 £ tip. In response she told me that she should have charged us for the wasted food(sushi buffet) so she just kept the 2£. Summery personal education is below average. Social skills: none(except smiling). Service: average. Professionalism: none. At the end I didn’t feel like a customer but more as an annoyance to them. As a result, we are never going to eat there again.

I’m not a big reviewer myself, tending to be more of a sponge in the Unilocal world. However, having chanced on the above two reviews, with no counter in sight, I feel compelled to add my tuppence worth. I’ve been here maybe a dozen times(I’m not all that far from it) and it makes for a perfect quick and inexpensive evening meal. The sushi has always been good quality, fresh and well prepared(the tuna sashimi is to die for). The staff are always friendly and helpful; I’ve never had cause for complaint and have never seen any other problems or anyone sending anything back. On the contrary, I’ve noted previously that the place is busy any night of the week and plates are always empty on their return. Although not an aficionado by any stretch of the imagination, I’ve been to some good sushi places, especially in NY, and I can’t fault the quality here relative to these. I’ve also brought friends and family here whose opinion I have far more faith in than my own when it comes to sushi and thumbs have always been up. Lastly, I have never got ill from this, and I always order mostly uncooked items. I’m sure if they really did have these problems, it wouldn’t always be so busy with the locals. Would definitely recommend it for an informal and tasty sushi bar… they don’t try to be fancy. With the £14 per person all you can eat on every evening, you can’t go wrong. PS The miso is some of the best I’ve ever had.

Absolutely horrible. Service is strange and cold, food is sub-par. Just stay away.

I just thought I’d write a review challenging some of the criticisms in a previous review. I and my friends have eaten in the Hi Sushi in Muswell Hill a few times, and my girlfriend, who is a sushi junky, thinks that, for the money, it is great value and great tasting sushi. Their miso soup is wonderful, their sake is the best I have ever had, and the sushi was exactly as sushi should be. The service is perhaps a little cold, but the staff are quick to deliver food and beverages, and overall I have had no reason to complain. We’re trying the Camden branch today…

If you are in the process of acclimating yourself to the food in areas of the orient where eating anything not served piping hot is a game of Russian Roulette you may want to consider eating here. It is shameful this branch considers itself a part of the Hi Sushi Salsa chain. Hi Sushi usually delivers reasonably nice sushi, with decent service, and unique ambience. The food here is, well the nice way to say it is, ‘suspect’ should you not want to partake in our Russian game in a Japanese restaurant(never was all that fond of fusion food myself) and send your plate back untouched you will be confronted with the most… looking for the polite word again here… well lets just say rude, so as not to become petty, waitress/manager/unsure of her title person that you will still have to pay for the food and no it is not possible to order something else(not that you would want to) before you ever bring up the topic. She seemed all too well versed in dealing with people who want to send their food back. There are so many lovely Japanese restaurants in London it would be a pity to see this new ‘restaurant’ survive the credit crunch when other places that don’t result to Mafia tactics go under.
