They moved to Paddington Street/Crawford Street. Same restaurant and great food, different location. The servers are so sweet and funny. Very nice experience and yummy food. The feta cheese is special and different from others I’ve had… so good. Definitely order some. The chicken kebab is also different and worth trying.

I had some friends who came over to visit and knowing Greeks and their food(I’m one of them) I knew that come the end of the week they’d all be missing giagia’s home cooking so I thought it would be nice to go for some traditional, home-style fare. But I’m afraid Hellenic was a real let down. It was absolutely dead inside, which never makes for a good evening as it was completely void of any atmosphere. The lone waiter wasn’t very friendly and after he served us he disappeared back to the kitchen downstairs where we couldn’t catch his attention. The food was really nondescript which was more a result of rubbish quality ingredients rather than cooking methods. Greek food really isn’t that difficult to make, it just focuses on flavours, fresh produce and often a very low and long cooking process to bring bring out these wonderful flavours. The food at Hellenic tasted really cheap and it certainly wasn’t authentic. The guys all had steak which was a meager slab of over fried meat served with a tiny portion of greasy fries. I had souvlaki(marinated chicken) that was tasteless served on a bed of equally tasteless white rice. I think the best part of the meal was the pitta bread and tzatziki(yogurt, cucumber and garlic dip) that everyone devoured and ordered more of(when the waiter finally came back up) yet we did the typically British thing and didn’t mention how awful the rest was! It was so unappetizing, I’ve eaten 99p microwave meals with more flavour and I’m still embarrassed that I took my friends here.

I was expecting my big fat Greek wedding, and almost got it. This place is family run, so you do get the owner saying hi to all tables, which i loved. The food is really traditional; from the creamy taramosolata, to yummy tstasiki, and also they serve vegetarian options. The portions are really vast and filling. The quality of food and taste is average though, some dishes have to much salt, and some non. I have mixed feeling about my experience here. But I have to say I also have a place in my heart for this restaurant because its right around my first flat in London. I would say give it a try, its not expensive and the experience can be good.
