Had a really good night here! We won a bottle of Prosecco and the staff were so nice and friendly. The only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is because when I went into the room upstairs, there was a wooden ledge I didn’t see and I tripped over it and split my knee open(this was before the prosecco haha). White tape/something reflective would have prevented this as the ledge is in quite a shadowy part of the room. Other than that(and a bartender slow enough to rival Mr Bean in Love Actually) it was a fabulous venue! Great food, lovely staff, and the music was ok too.

Picked this bar to celebrate Australia Day as it had a lot of advertisement online. I believe the festivities were outside. My friend and I decided to drink inside out of the cold(chilly air not going to put us in Aussie day mood). Good venue with quirky mismatch furniture. Almost felt like I could have been back in a Melbourne pub. It was a good night out, I had the house white that was very good. Only fault that the service was slow even though we were sitting at the bar and inside wasn’t that busy.

Really nice venue with friendly and helpful staff. We made a reservation and they were so helpful and attentive. I had a pizza and it was amazing. Their outdoor seating area is huge and well decorated.

The garden has just been refurbished. It is amazing! The tree houses are fav and there’s big screens and cinema seating and a tuk tuk! Inside is ok. Gets really busy, even with upstairs open but good place to go, especially if you get in early.

The cocktails are great and the food is pretty good too. Service at the bar is often shockingly slow. I love what they’ve done with the garden, it’s great even in cold weather because of the marquees and the heaters. Worth booking if you want a seat in the summer. It also has an area(upstairs I think, or maybe downstairs!) if you want to dance, but when I went it was pretty grimy and absolutely packed.

Came here for a Rekeordelig cider event. They’d decked half of the HUGE garden out in flowers. So many flowers. Twas gorgeous! I believe the outdoor huts are a permanent feature of the garden too — they are very lovely — especially for a slightly grubby part of London. The bar itself inside also seemed really nice on our way out. Gutted we couldn’t have stayed longer but would definitely go back.

FYI review for the Rekorderlig event:10/10 for the set-up, it was amazing! Obviously the cider was great but the food was the only thing that let it down a bit(and the weather but what can you do!?). The beef canapé was pretty horrible and there was a delay on the other nibbles, so we were all pretty peckish. Having said that the Swedish burger looked amazing even though we didn’t get a chance to order it! Rekordelig always put on an interesting night!

When there’s a game on, you can expect this place to be completely packed. Once they were bouncing people at the door because it was too crowded! The garden is really cool in the summer. Lots of nooks and crannies between the treehouses, firepit, picnic tables, and other assorted seating areas. Haven’t been during the winter yet, but apparently they roll out these Moroccan tents to cover about half of the garden. No treehouses in winter sadly. This place is great on a lazy Sunday afternoon. You can even bring that special guy or girl and have a cuddle in the hammock ;)

Went there for the first time with my friend(a hot blonde). We got in with little trouble but the bouncer gave me a dirty look(me being oriental). Décor in the back garden was really nice, so the next day I wanted to go back with my brother, only to get refused at the door. That arrogant bouncer said it was booking only. But you know what, the 2 groups behind me(all Caucasians, but they dressed way more casual than me) in the queue didn’t have bookings either but they were allowed in. I confronted the bouncer with it, and he replied with: I am the one who work here, if I said you can’t go in, then it’s the policy. Very snobbish and racist!

Nice pub with comfortable tables and chairs. I also like their chicken burgers and chips. A good impression was made to me by the polite and friendly service.

The Grand Union has one of the best beer gardens in London, with charming paper lanterns and tiki huts to climb into and relax. Their Pimms Cup is the freshest and fruitiest that I’ve ever had, and the food’s not bad either! To sweeten the deal even further, it’s on tastecard!

Amazing pub with one of the best beer gardens I have EVER seen. With little tiling themed huts, red Chinese lanterns, comfortable seats a large stone table with yes a fire pit in the middle, and TV’s everywhere(so great for watching sports). Happy hour is until 8 with a selection of cocktails that are buy one get one free(and which are extremely tasty). Food seems quite expensive, but you get a good bang for your buck. I would recommend the sliders. 6 mini burgers for £10. These should be to share however as they are really filling! The bar inside is also amazing with a vintage, Retro miss-matched décor, large wooden floor and lovely worn, homely feeling fittings. They also have an upstairs which I didn’t visit. The only downside is that the ladies toilets are terrible, quite messy and the doors don’t lock but other than that I love this place!

Despite being a chain, this probably competes with the Camden version for the ‘best in category’ award for the finest Grand Union. If only for the garden. It’s huge. Really, huge. With a giant screen for the sports, little thai huts to make a private party even more, well, private, and an open fire pit is a great touch. It finds itself somewhat between two mindsets — you’ll find the typically casual Brixton crowd, with their converse and skinny jeans, jostling with, but usually overwhelmed by, the Clapham abercrombie crowd. That’s the only downside to this pub — the clientele can be hit and miss. There are an awful lot of girls wearing dresses and stilettos that wouldn’t look out of place at a wedding, if you know what I mean. But on the whole, it’s a great pub, especially good in the warmer months!

Trendy pub in deep Brixton, inside the pub looked traditonal but still very trendy with a nice friendly young vibrate crowd and atmosphere, serving food and also a outside patio area again if you fancied a bit of fresh air while you are drinking. Will say on the flip this place definately is not a Wetherspoons and I found drinks in here a little to steep for me, still taking that aside and if your happy paying a little extra it’s not a bad choice, but I won’t be rushing back there in the not to distant future too pricey for me.

We came here on Saturday night for Gaz and Beth’s party. It was ok, if I was in the area I might go again but its not worth travelling for. I thought the layout of the downstairs bar was poor, it didn’t take very many people to make the open spaces really crowded and difficult to move around, and you needed to move around to get to the bar or outside to the smoking area. The upstairs bar was laid out better but lacked atmosphere. As for the drinks — both the Heineken and Red Stripe tasted watered down, warm and flat

While 1 star might seem harsh its really because this place could be a 5 star so easily but instead the people that run this place are morons. Yes it is one of the nicest beer gardens around with cool little huts you can hire, a big screen, and plenty of outdoor heating/seating etc. However if the bar is any more than half full you will face massive waits to get served. it is so bad that i have seen a fight break out, basically people are waiting so long to get served they are willing to fight about it! The bar is massive and there is even a bar upstairs but it is always under staffed, the first time i went, i thought oh there having teething problems because its new, then i went again and again and it was the same. The last time i was there i was halfway thru a friends birthday night out when i just had to leave. i couldnt wait anymore and instead walked out and went to another pub alone, thats how bad it was. Unfortunately this is my friends local and he always suggest we met there for a drink, however i have a firm NOGRANDUNION rule due to the fact you cant ever get a drink!

Oooo the outdoors garden is really great! I don’t care that’s a chain, and true the interior is rather standard style, but seriously it’s summer and all I care about is where I can kick it with a pint and my mates and enjoy the hopefully sunny weather. Agree with everything Louise P. had to say about it’s garden plus they’ll be showing the World Cup on that huge screen… definitely think it will be my spot to be in June!!! Only negative about the place is that it is exactly in the middle of Clapham Common tube and Brixton tube so 1. there’s nothing else around it and 2. it’s a bit of a hike from the tube from either station but guess that will help keep the masses out of the garden. It’s mine! All mine, mwahahahah!!!

Full review on
I took advantage of GU’s 2 for 1 burger offer for joining its mailing list, and headed there this avo for some sun, cider and an attempt to finally get this HPL burger quest going. Grand Union Brixton has a very good and large beer garden which was rammed full of happy smiley(and some slightly tipsy) people. I ordered cheese burger and chips, with coleslaw on the side. The chips were nice but there was REALLY disappointing tastleless coleslaw. And the burger. Woweee. It was bigger than I remembered it. The cheese burger at Grand Union is huge ridiculously huge. Stuffed with all the good stuff huge juicy meaty burger, tons of yummy melted cheese, cheesy mayonnaisey relish at the bottom, tomato relishy stuff at the top, half a frickin’ lettuce, and a giant slice of beef tomato. Awesome. Apart from you just can’t eat it!!! Take 1⁄5th of the burger and smear it on my chin, dump 1⁄5th on my lap, the lettuce just EVERYWHERE, the burger in small pieces, the bun spread like breadcrumbs liberally over the plate and table, and only about 3/5ths in my mouth. I was forced to eat small chunks of what had fallen onto my plate like a chipmunk or parrot fish, and then lick or wipe the various relishes off my hands, mouth and chin. It tasted really really good, but I just don’t like getting that messy when I’m eating, sorry GU. For me, thats a #burgerfail. Great burger, just make it easier to eat, pleeeease??!

This is such a nice pub with one of the biggest beer gardens in London. I kid you not. It has about 4 little huts, or tree houses, a fire, loads of seating and then there’s the inside cool décor and a brilliant place for hanging out with friends. There’s loads of drinks on offer — cocktails, good beers and the food is typical pub grub and quite good it is too. Enjoy.
