It’s been years since I was there, but the staff was wonderfully hospitable and the food was great. Would definitely eat there again.

I generally don’t regard myself a fuzzy eater, especially if it comes to indian food. I love indian cuisine and am often cooking indian dishes with friends or alone. This restaurant however has set a new low for indian cuisine in any way. The whole bill for 1 person was 20 pounds, with the waiter writing up the bill in an absolutely illegible fashion and reacting very annoyed when I politely asked him to explain the items on my bill. The food itself was an absoulte low, I ordered a paneer dish(indian cheese) and at first thought they mixed up my order as there were only about 5 tiny cubes of paneer in there. The gravy was absolutely bland, just canned tomato with an incredible amount of chilli as a misguided attempt to hide the lack of any other taste whatsoever. The side mango lassi was essentially water with mango pulp. After this poor attempt of a meal the waiter was very rudely asking for /almost-demanding a tip. The whole place is tiny and hygiene is okay by indian, rather poor by western standards. Do avoid this place like the plague. You get the same quality of food by throwing together tesco canned tomatos with parts of your shoe and it most certainly is cheaper and more enjoyable.

I can confirm what Archer D wrote: Staff is rude. We paid 43£ for lunch for 2 people. Prices on menu were lower! We had 2 small vegetable dishes with rice, chapati, 2 papadam, yogurt and 2 Indian teas. The vegetable portions are very tiny and they are extremely overpriced. Very strange bill: He charged what he wanted! We didn’t understand it! The Indian service staff was trying to be funny but we couldn’t laugh at his low level jokes over British people. At the end he harassed my girlfriend by getting too close to her, holding her hand for handing her some coloured cumin seeds and touching her for saying goodbye. We had had the horrible feeling of having been cheated from A to Z!!! This service staff is mad and better to avoid!

Small place that offers an excellent lunchtime offer of daal + curry + rice or naan for £6.95 which is as good as it gets in the West End. The daal is souplike but flavoursome and the jalfrezi I had had a bit of a kick to it. Now I know it’s here I’ll be here a lot of lunches. The first time you check in here you get s 10% off for cash Unilocal discount voucher, which you can use either then or later. So I took my team there and we saved a bundle which we gave to Movember.

Terrible service, rude and unhelpful. Completely over priced, and in my opinion just decent Indian food.

Service, as everyone keeps saying, was AWESOME. As someone with little experience with Indian food, the server/manager was super helpful in helping my date and I decide on what to order. He knew specifically what to suggest for a vegan diner. I can’t say it was the best Indian food I’ve had(again, as I barely know the cuisine), but I would go back and recommend it to others. The facility itself is smaller than I’m used to as an American, but it wasn’t off-setting. Cozy, if nothing else. The restaurant was a block or so away from the busiest streets in Soho which made it feel like a real discovery.

I loved the service, liked the food but overall, my experience was just meh with Golden Oven. Starting on a positive note, the staff is extremely friendly and very helpful in choosing dishes or even offering things that are not on the menu. As for the not so good things, this place is just TINY. If you are sitting near the singular aisle in this place, guaranteed you will be bumped around quite a bit througout your meal. And the reason why I can’t see myself returning, is although the food was good it was not all that special(nothing ground breaking here) and I thought EXTREMELY expensive for the tiny portions served. For my meal after a shared appetizer platter where we each got 1 samosa, 1 tiny piece of chicken and some fried thing each and a lamb dish with about 6 small pieces of lamb in a sauce and some rice, the cost was around 20 pounds. London is absolutely overflowing with indian restaurants and I just don’t think this place is up for the competition.

Golden Oven is a little gem. Service was quick and friendly. Food was delicious. We had garlic nan, chicken curry, sag aloo, lamb balti, and mango ice cream. Great flavors. Spicy and warmed us up on a cold London evening. Lamb was a little tough but everything else was lovely.

Want a decent curry house in Soho then this is your place. This small cosy restaurant has attentive staff and the manager is pretty friendly too. Food is freshly made with good ingredients and pretty tasty. 3.5 stars if I could — the bathrooms were a bit dirty.

One of the worst eating out experiences I’ve ever had. The waiter crowbarred the previous diners out of the window seat so we could sit with a view of the pub oppsite. The room was pokey and when a family came in and were sat next to us it was as if we were all one party. We ordered 4 poppadoms and received 2 old stale ones. My chicken jalfrezi was far too hot and I had trouble eating it. My friend’s special rice was plain rice with some mixed veg in and his madras was also too hot. It was far too expensive and we couldn’t wait to get out of there. Avoid at all costs! We were also unable to pay by card for some reason, it was cash only. Bizarre.
