This place doesn’t exist. It’s gone. Nothing there remotely George’s, or Fish and Chips, or even just Fish. I walked down and up Essex Road thinking they may have moved but then I logged back in after getting Lebanese food instead, and the last review is from 2011!

Oh my, I have walked past this place so many times, thought nothing of it but due to severe hunger I decided to get a bag a chips there. Well, it is such a lovely chipper mainly down to the lovely owner ‘George’ himself & the fantastic chips! There were other people in the Q and they all knew him by name, so friendly. He is so lovely and the chips were fantastic! Proper cut chips, nicely fried. Served in paper. I really really recommend them, I am a massive critic of potato chips, these really were fantastic, and only £1.30 a portion! Wow! Forget your overpriced fashionable chippers, this is the real deal! I will be back again and again…

My dad used to take me here every Friday when I was a kid, there would always be queues out the door and you could sometimes wait up to half an hour or more but ah was it worth it. I haven’t been back there for about 10 years so maybe old George himself isn’t there anymore but if it’s half as good as it used to be then it’s a dam fine fish and chip shop. At one time it was voted as best chip shop in London by Capital radio, ah memories. Go try it out and let me know alas I live far away now lol.

I love a good take away meal and this is an extremely good, yet expensive, chippie! Fish and chips are excellent, but try their burgers as well. They do not attract the drunk crowd, so it is save to go their at night and on weekends.
