Gagosian Gallery

i have seen some amazing exhibition at the Gagosian since moving to London. people always forget about this tucked away gallery which is a shame because it’s really worth a visit. The space itself is great, large and spacious with really good lighting during the day. it’s free of course, which in my books makes it even better. I have seen some big names exhibit here and also discovered some new artists. It’s a great little trip if ever in the kings cross area.

I went last Saturday to the Gagosian Gallery in Britannia Street. It is located in a quiet street very near to Kings Cross station. The venue has tall ceilings and was painted on white what gives it an industrial look. There were two expositions when I visited the gallery: A single piece of Richard Serra and several paintings of Mark Grotjahn. I liked the feel of the gallery that was very quiet (probably helped because it was a very sunny Saturday) and that it didn’t feel like a posh place, more a relaxed gallery where you can see some art.
I would go again when to see the new exhibitions.

Huzzah for UK Unilocal!Finally! So I am going to Unilocal a two year old show and gallery visit for my 400^th review. Nyah.
This gallery was the art highlight (and only art visit since I went with and for my two teenage sons who abhor art galleries/​museums) of my very short trip to London two years ago. I came to see the Francis Bacon triptychs and was not disappointed. For an added bonus, Damien Hirst’s works were being shown as well. The gallery is pretty nondescript from the outside located on a small side street near the Kings Cross Station. The front belies the large, well-​lighted space inside. The Bacon works were positively glowing. This space seems nicer than the New York Gagosian but maybe I was just enamored by the Bacon paintings.

The Gagosian gallery represents a huge number of successful artists and is located in seven locations, two of those in London. This particular gallery is in Kings Cross, unfamiliar territory with regards to the usual gallery circuit.
The gallery itself is a large space, two main rooms with consistently good shows. Richard Serra is currently exhibiting his steel sculptures, giant structures which engulf the entire space of the gallery. People can walk around and through the works, it almost feels like a maze as you walk into the structure and it takes you through passageways with the steel walls towering above you.
Because of the location of the gallery, it is generally quieter than some of it’s counterparts in the West End, which in my mind, makes the experience a better one. Who wants to contemplate art works with hundreds of people bumping into you. One of the downsides of large public galleries like the Tate.

As one of the many galleries owned by the art mogul, Larry Gagosian, this one will not leave you disappointed. Located near King’s Cross, on Britania Street, this gallery boasts a couple of large, bright, white rooms perfect for exhibiting big art installations. The current exhibition on show by Richard Serra, is the perfect work for showing the gallery at its full potential.
The exhibitions do vary considerably, but always showcase big contemporary artists such as Richard Prince, Hiroshi Sugimoto, and Rachel Whiteread. Due to its location and excluding openings, you will soon notice that not many people seem to visit this gallery that much and it is likely that you will be be the only visitor at the time, but trust me, this will only make your experience better since you will be able appreciate the space and art works at their best.

I first came here for the Michael Craig Martin Private view which was some time ago. The difference between going to a private view in the Gagosian and a private view in other galleries is there is no wine, I might have been a bit early but I didn’t see a glass in sight.
The space itself is great though, with one main large room and two smaller rooms to each side, I’ve been in the gallery in New York as well and it’s a similar layout.
The location could be better, situated in Britannia Street so the nearest tube station is Kings Cross.

One of, if not the best, contemporary art gallery in London. With galleries also located in New York, Los Angeles, Rome, and Moscow Gagosian is an international player and represents some of the best artists working today. And they know how to put on an exhibit. I recently went to the show by Richard Serra, the best sculptor working today. The show took my breath away. Serra uses core ten steel and has factories bend these massive plates in to space you walk in. around, and through. Other knock-​out shows include Ed Ruscha, Richard Prince, and Howard Hodgkin. This is a stellar venue and a must see for anyone interested in contemporary art

Today was my first visit to the Gagosian Gallery and I have to say what a great find it is! It really reminds me of the massive gallery spaces that you find in the Chelsea district of New York.
Its a little stranded in terms of art so you have to make a special trip to it. That said, the Tom Friedman show that is currently on was a real treat and brilliantly displayed. Its a clinical space without feeling daunting like some of the more corporate spaces in soho.
I will definitely go again!
